The present information age is enabled by telecommunications and information technology and the continued convergence of their services, technologies and business models. Within telecommunications, the historic separations between fixed networks, mobile telephone networks and data communications are diminishing. Similarly, information technology and enterprise communications show convergence with telecommunications. These synergies are captured in the concept of Next Generation Networks that result from evolution to new technologies, enabling new services and applications. Network Convergence creates a framework to aid the understanding of Next Generation Networks, their potential for supporting new and enhanced applications and their relationships with legacy networks. clipped from movies.nytimes.comYeah, yeah, yeah, the environment, blah, blah, blah, melting ice caps. To judge from all the gas-guzzlers still fouling the air and the plastic bottles clogging the dumps, it appears that the news that we are killing ourselves and the world with our greed and garbage hasn’t sunk in. That’s one reason “The 11th Hour,” an unnerving, surprisingly affecting documentary about our environmental calamity, is such essential viewing. It may not change your life, but it may inspire you to recycle that old slogan-button your folks pinned on their dashikis back in the day: If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.
Blockbuster might find ‘convergence’ doesn’t pay

Microsoft-hosted enterprise resource planning (ERP) is in the company's plans, CEO Steve Ballmer said during this morning's Convergence 2008 keynote address.Microsoft will release Dynamics CRM Live, its vendor-hosted customer relationship management (CRM) software, by the end of June. It will be the first of several Microsoft-hosted Dynamics enterprise applications products, Ballmer said."You should expect to see more from us in ERP and other areas as we move into the future," he said.Ballmer's statements contradicted those of corporate vice president Michael Park, who denied any Microsoft-hosted ERP plans last week. Park told TechTarget that "the architecture we're making the [hosting] bet on is CRM. With ERP, we've got a good number of partners who are hosting it for us."Dynamics CRM Liv
DUBLIN, Ireland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets has announced the addition of “New Zealand - Convergence & Digital Media” to their offering. The bundling of voice, data and video services (triple play) and mobile services (quadruple play) are likely to develop on a more large scale fashion in New Zealand in 2008 and 2009. Voice and data bundling has already been introduced by a number of players, including Telecom, Orcon and ihug. The introduction of ADSL2+ services, facilitated by local loop unbundling will eventually allow for faster access of bundled services including VoIP and IPTV, this faster access will also be critical for the growth of digital media services. The convergence of still and video went mainstream in the early days of multimedia. If I were to point to one moment in history it might be the introduction of the interactive CD-ROM, which quickly became a vessel for mixing still and video images. Prior to the interactive CD-ROM, multimedia was more of a theatrical [...]
When it comes to convergence, the trend these days is to cram all sorts of functionality into a single device—even if those functions seem to be massively impractical given the limitations of current technology. However, a UK based design firm named Alloy has taken a more practical approach with their Couple-IT concept. The unit consists of a handset and a pocket-sized "laptop" that share
Convergence is near, at least if EA is to be believed. Though I’m sure some people have plenty to say about that, I’ll refrain from anything else relating to EA in this post and instead discuss what they were saying. This idea is not really anything new, but I did glean a few interesting tidbits I wanted to share with everyone. But, let me preface this all by saying that I’m not so sure we’ll be seeing what he is talking about quite as soon as he believes. I’m not sure the money is there to make it worthwhile for the big companies no matter how good it may be from the viewpoint of the consumers.

Start-up Agito Networks officially removes its cloak of invisibility today with the announcement of the company and its first product, an enterprise router designed to pull company cellular phone traffic onto the corporate Wi-Fi network when employees are on-premise.Agito joins a host of other players, including start-up Divitas and carriers Sprint and AT&T, out to bridge these radio realms, what some call the hottest issue in wireless.“Mobile convergence is the single most important trend in wireless today,” says Craig Mathias, a principal with the Farpoint Group consultancy. “Phones with Wi-Fi, cell, maybe even support for WiMAX mobile built in, will finally get us to the point where the mobile phone is our only phone. We won’t have desk phones anymore.” At the very least this convergence simplifies the life of mobile professionals by giving them one contact number and one voice mail box to tend to, instead of versions of both for their desk and cell phones. But Agito co-fo

Not Autistic or Hyperactive. Just Seeing Double at Times by Laura Novak
Difficulty in school isn’t always a sign of a learning disorder, it may just be a sign that a child’s eyes aren’t working properly.
After several different diagnoses, including autism, anxiety disorder and ADHD, one 9-year-old
found that she suffered from "convergence insufficiency, in which the patient sees double because the eyes cannot work together at close range.
The article goes on to quote Dr. Eric Borsting, an optometrist and professor at the Southern California College of Optometry who has also studied the links between vision and attention problems, “We know that kids with C.I. are more likely to have problems like loss of concentration when reading and trouble remembering what they read,” he said. “Doctors should look at it when there’s a history of poor school performance.”

Convergence, Citizen Journalism & Social Change: Building CapacityLOCATION: University of Queensland, BRISBANEDATES: March 25-27, 2008SPONSORS: Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC)/ School of Journalism & Communication, University of Queensland/ Journalism, Media & Communication, Queensland University of TechnologyThe era of the digital has led to the problematisation of a number of issues once taken for granted: for example, understandings of the nature, practices and objectives of journalism. While traditional journalism remains a significant institution in the Asia-Pacific region, new forms of journalism – from blogs to online news services - have begun to offer audiences new sources for news and new opportunities for selfexpression. This raises questions about what is journalism in the context of an era in which traditional notions and practices of journalism are continually challenged/matched/complemented by an explosion of digital practices, insurrections

Andi Haswidi, The Jakarta Post, JakartaWatching Paris Hilton walking out of jail via You-Tube on a mobile telephone screen is just one of the benefits information junkies can realize through the latest convergence of multimedia and telecommunication technologies. However, convergence can lead to chaos, where parties are hard to be identified and interaction of power plays can be hard to predict. In order to anticipate changes and to channel advances in technologies and ideas into a coherent growth stream, stakeholders in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector have created a formulating roadmap."The roadmap basically says how we want the ICT sector to move forward, considering all the existing challenges faced by all the stakeholders involved," Indonesian Telecommunications Regulatory Body (BRTI) member Heru Sutadi told The Jakarta Post after a seminar on fixed-mobile convergence in Jakarta on Monday. src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">Heru s
I believe I have a problem with my convergence.
What is the best way to get to the convergence boards, they don't look accessable from the back side?
Also, does anyone know where I can get a good price on a convergence modue?
Thanks,
Where shall I start? Lately, I’ve been very much into self help and spiritual books. Here are some Mash ups of a few concepts or practice that I managed to gather and making sense of in my own quirkiness way.
I can now narrow them down to 4 concepts, practices or habits. Mentality of abundance, bootstrapping, proactive and the power of now.
First stop, if you find yourself in a shit situation or any undesirable situation, you must acknowledge the NOW. You must accept that it is only your life situation and don’t identify it as you. When you finally managed to take stock of the situation, you can then plot your way out of it. It is much more constructive than blaming other of putting yourself in such situation or being angry with your own self for landing into the hot soup.
The habit I must emphasize during such dire situation is proactive as advocate by Stephen R. Covey in his book titled “The 7 habits of highly effective people“. Yes, you heard me right, don&r

I’ve long been a fan of AOL Instant Messenger over it’s Yahoo!, Microsoft, and more recently, Google, counterparts. Most non-techie users have a preference for an IM network based on one factor only: it’s what most of their friends use. The feature sets of most IM products are comparable, and though the user interfaces have different advantages and disadvantages, none are so bad as to make users reject them en masse. Even a lack of feature’s can be overcome through third-party plug-ins. I use middle_man for AIM, and before that, DeadAIM. But as broadband internet has become more widely available, and thus usage of extra bandwidth-consuming programs like instant messaging tools has become more prevalent, the chances of all members of an individual’s social circle all using the same IM network has greatly declined.
On modern PCs, it’s trivial to run two IM programs at once, even three. But for people who don’t want to manage contacts over multi

Of all the things you shouldn't build an iPod speaker system into, a washing machine has to be up there with the chainsaw. Why in the world would anyone think they need to build a music system into an appliance designed to be left alone for great lengths of time? And that vibrates loudly? Well, despite the obvious conceptual flaws of building a product that quite simply has no use whatsoever, LG has patented designs for the world's first washing machine/podcessory hybrid.

Did I fall asleep and awake in a strange parallel universe? When I went to bed all was fine but when I woke up I discovered we've got internet browsers in fridges, online washing machines, robotic dogs on skateboards, mobile phones that take pointless pictures, Satellite TV that plays crap eighties games and MP3 players in almost everything.I think they call it convergence. Don't get me wrong I'm all for invention and people around me refer to me as the gadget king but I have to ask ... are things going too far?I have a watch, it tells me the time. I'm happy with that ... really I am. It uses static electricity from my body to keep itself going and it doesnt need rebooting every five minutes.Want to buy a mobile phone? Oh, do you want music? The ability to take pictures? Web browsing? Email? Diary or To Do lists? Listen, I want a phone, I want to call people and have conversations. The shop assistant looks at me strange, but it is colour and polyphonic they assure me. I give up.Wha

We interact with a plethora of gadgets and devices every day. Many people depend on devices like mobile phones, computers, and cameras to earn their incomes. So it would seem natural that we try to combine different technologies to create multi-use devices that could save time and effort. But are we heading towards a point when we will have the sum of all technology in a single device?
