      "A Guitar and a Pen" - Controversy
I reviewed A Guitar and a Pen back on April 28 and I well remember the short story that is causing author Robert Hicks a few problems this week. It was one called "He Always Knew Who He Was" and featured a real life visit that Bluegrass music originator Bill Monroe made to the White House. The story was attributed to country music journalist Hazel Smith who has now come forward to say

Miley Cyrus (AKA Hannah Montana) and Vanity Fair controversy
The picture in question. My daughter loves Miley Cyrus and I'm happy she does: Cyrus and her Disney Channel (and station) mates make the best quality, most decent comedy television and pop music today. Cyrus is also a gust of fresh air compared to the destructive Spears, Lohan, et. al. She makes a point of being a Christian in what must be a very faith-challenging business. About the Vanity Fair picture controversy: I'm glad that Cyrus is concerned about her image. She could have downplayed her responsibility to my daughter, but didn't. When I first heard about the picture controversy, I didn't think that it was too much of a big deal. Yes, she's under age and, as a high school teacher, I know the last message girls need is: "be sexier," but the pictures weren't in the nude; How mu

      Twenty Twenty Controversy( Meera Jasmine)
The controversy surrounding Meera Jasmine's non appearance in ‘Twenty Twenty’ the movie produced by AMMA, has reached a new stage with the persons involved starting to debate on another issue. According to Meera, actor Dileep, the executive producer of the movie has asked her to allot 22 days for the movie, this month. Meera cites that allotting around a month for the film was that which prevented her to make a try to appear in the movie. Since she has already given much of the month's dates to another south Indian movie, she thought acting in parts for lesser days will spoil the entire schedule of the AMMA movie. “That’s why I chose to refrain from acting in the movie,'' says Meera. But according to Dileep, he has just asked Meera for eight days, to do the character in the film.

From the Foundry:"CATO’s Timothy Lee makes a great connection between the absence of school choice in our current education system and the recent housing bubble burst. Bangkok's Lebua Hotel -- already before in the media with bad press -- has another think cooking: literally.Somewhere in the firmament of Michelin-starred chefs there must be one willing to accept $8,000 for a single night's work. The only catch is that this particular dinner at a Bangkok luxury hotel has stirred up a mighty controversy, and two dozen chefs around the world have declined to cook it.I personally find this quite disgusting in its hypocrisy:Bangkok’s Lebua hotel, which is organizing the dinner, is no stranger to publicity - or to Michelin-starred chefs. CONTROVERSY IN PAYDAY LOANS
A lot of controversy has been spread about payday loans like how you can only find a payday store in poor neighborhoods as well as at military bases. Critics have also claimed that payday lenders only target the young and can be found in low-income communities only who they say do not know how to manage their money properly or may not understand the value of time and money. Some even go further and claim that payday lenders are the new form of loan sharks because of the high interest fees as well as the additional hidden fees that some payday lenders put upon the payday loan. However those that defend payday loans claim that payday loans are not different from their higher-principal, longer-term counterparts such as home mortgages. It is also argued that the high interest rates on payday l

Mike Huckabee on Jeremiah Wright Controversy
And one other thing I think we've gotta remember. As easy as it is for those of us who are white, to look back and say "That's a terrible statement!"...I grew up in a very segregated south. And I think that you have to cut some slack -- and I'm gonna be probably the only Conservative in America who's gonna say something like this, but I'm just tellin' you -- we've gotta cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told "you have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie. You have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant. And you can't sit out there with everyone else. There's a separate waiting room in the doctor's office. Here's where you sit on the bus..." The Story: Obama: Wright controversy has ’shaken me up’ (via CNN.com) Barack Obama told CNN Wednesday the recent uproar over his former pastor's sermons has reminded him of the odds he faces in winning the White House. "In some ways this, this controversy has actually shaken me up a little bit and gotten me back into remembering that the odds of me getting elected have always been lower than than some of the other conventional candidates," the Illinois senator told CNN's Anderson Cooper in an exclusive one-on-one interview. Steelers Controversy Update

Since that time, this story has only gained more momentum and discussion among Steeler followers. Here's an update and a few more reading points on the subject: --Today, the Pittsburgh Women's Center and Shelter asked for a statement from the Steelers, who have remained virtually silent on the issue: "How powerful it would be to this community and the community across the nation if they would come out and make a statement that they don't condone this kind of behavior," said Shirl Regan of the Women's Center. --You have to read the lengthy comments section of Mark's original article. Why the Jeremiah Wright Trinity Church controversy matters…
Like an ostrich burying his head in the sand, many Democratic talking heads are trying to play the recent Obama church controversy as much ado about nothing. If you watched any of the political talk shows over the weekend you saw the pattern develop. First is to agree that what Jeremiah Wright has said was outrageous and wrong; then make it clear that Obama has denounced these statements; then state for the record that we should leave it at that; then work to change the subject. It’s a nice clean line of rhetoric, but I am afraid it simply won’t work. The problem here is that the issue goes to the root cause of why Barack Obama is in the position that he is in. Barack Obama has created a groundswell of support by offering to the public that he is above the political, social, and raci

GENEVA — Car makers are showing off their leanest, greenest mass-market models through Sunday in anticipation of stricter European emissions controls at the Geneva International Motor Show. A host of small cars are celebrating their debut in Geneva, including production versions of Ford Motor Co.’s new, fuel-stingy Fiesta and Toyota Motor Corp.’s three-seater iQ, and a concept version of Fiat’s 500 Aria. All three boast carbon dioxide emissions of under 100 grams per kilometer, which will help those manufacturers beat an EU proposal for a fleet average of 130 grams by 2012. New York City kitty controversy
Deli and Bodega owners in New York City are defending their right to keep cats in their stores. The cats keep the rat and mice under control, but city inspectors contend the cats pose a health hazard. Across the city, delis and bodegas are a familiar and vital part of the streetscape, modest places where customers can pick up necessities, a container of milk, a can of soup, a loaf of bread. Amid the goods found in the stores, there is one thing that many owners and employees say they cannot do without: their cats. And it goes beyond cuddly companionship. These cats are workers, tireless and enthusiastic hunters of unwanted vermin, and they typically do a far better job than exterminators and poisons. When a bodega cat is on the prowl, workers say, rats and mice vanish. […] "Any animal around food presents a food contamination threat," said Robert M. Corrigan, a rodentologist and research scientist for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. "And so that

      Police vs Motorcycle Rider Controversy

Both 25 year old male rider and his 31 year old female passenger were thrown 60 feet and suffered severe head trauma, broken ribs, and leg and arm injuries. The rider was in a hospital for a week. The Watauga police alleged that the pursuit had started after the rider ran the red light. On November 30 under the order by the Texas attorney general's office the videos from both police cruiser mounted cameras were released by the city of Watauga. Continuing mystery and controversy
There is something of potential importance within the UFO mystery, and it is two-fold, according to Don Berliner, a longtime UFO investigator and an independent aviation/science writer. He also is Chairman of the Fund for UFO Research, located in Alexandria, Virginia.First of all, there are the detailed descriptions from veteran airline and military pilots of objects seen at close range in broad daylight."These were said to have been solid, metallic-looking objects with sharp edges and simple geometric shapes that were completely unlike any known aero-spacecraft, and displayed performance--extreme speed within the atmosphere, violent maneuvers and spectacular acceleration--that was even farther from the norm," Berliner told SPACE.com.Secondly, there is the "excessive zeal" shown by the U.S. Air Force when claiming to have solved the UFO mystery, Berliner suggested.
