When I add a new friend to Gmail chat, sometimes my friend's email address is added as their contact name, such as hikingfan@gmail.com. I personally like to have the name of all my chat friends in my chat list so I don't get too confused as to who's who. To change this, I used to go into contacts, select the contact profile, add the name of my friend, and then save it. But now with the new version of Gmail (launched for Firefox 2 and IE7) you can make edits to Gmail contacts directly from the chat list. I find it to be a great time saver. All you have to do is hover your mouse over one of your contacts to prompt a pop-up with contact details. If you just click on the contact name, it will automatically become an editable field. Simply type in the desired name and hit "enter."

I logged into my Yahoo email address this morning to catch up on some email. In addition to noticing a new look and feel and removal of the BETA Tag, Yahoo! Mail notified me I can import my Windows Live Contacts so I could also chat with them online. Previously, only Yahoo! contacts were supported for chatting. I love Yahoo's web mail interface, which I believe loads much quicker than Windows Live Hotmail and features integrated instant messaging and just a more flexible experience when it comes to email in the web browser. This topic would sound absurd, but it really isn’t, so keep on reading Have you ever blocked a contact in Google Talk? Well, recently a friend of mine was annoying me a lot. I even warned him not to disturb, but he kept on bugging me, so in the end the only choice I had was to block him. After block, I worked in peace but the next day I felt sorry for what I have done and wanted to unblock him back. But to my surprise, there was no way I can unblock him from Google Talk itself. I know, this is very weird, but when I blocked him, Google Talk blocked and deleted him from my list. In the end, I did found how to get the contact unblocked back. This is an idea that makes you wonder why every mobile carrier does not offer a service like this. With AT&T’s Mobile Backup you will have a backup of your contacts stored online and also be able to get those contacts into a new phone without having to spend hours on the numeric keypad. You can enter your contacts on the phone itself, on the website or import your contacts from Outlook, Yahoo! or AOL. I did a search for .pst files and found several and two were being used. They both had the same time-stamp. That didn’t make sense. All of the .pst files, apart from one which was in the correct folder, I renamed, closed Outlook and restarted. The effect? Squat. Copied the .pst file somewhere safe and uninstalled Outlook. Using Windows Explorer I checked to see what was left. The Outlook folder was still there. Reinstalled Outlook. The effect? Squat. The Contacts problem is still there. There is obviously a corrupt registry setting pointing at two Contacts folders and this was caused when I had to do a messy reinstall of XP about 6 months ago. After that install a new user was created and I have a feeling this has got something to do with it. The old user still exists in Documents & Settings but is not useable in X

The easiest way to backup messages, contacts and rules in Outlook using .PST file which Outlook offers as its import/export option. You pick the folders and subfolders in your outlook that you want to backup and it does it for you. The time the backup will take depends on the amount of data you have. This also is a great way to get rid of your duplicates as when importing from PST you get an option weather you want duplicates removed or kept as is. The only problem that I had with backing up outlook in PST and restoring it is the rule duplication. Make sure that none of your rules are in outlook before you import. Otherwise you will end up with a tonne of duplicates in your outlook folders and unfortunately there isnt an option in outlook to clean up duplicates, the only way is export/import in PST which can be risky if not done properly.
