Technological advancements have risen into power with our modern world today. Everything can be done with just one push of a button. Every contemporary infrastructure on earth uses high-tech equipments and facilities to keep up to this fast evolving world we live in. For sure, even residential homes have computer-based machines only to keep up and be on the run all the time. If you are someone who is very concern and involved with the recent techies today you probably do and use CD, DVD ROM replication to protect all your important files and programs just to be sure of not loosing them. However, when doing CD, DVD replication, despite of its popularity nowadays, always make sure that you know your extent and limitations. Be responsible when doing replication and duplication at all times.
PRIVATE CARS WERE RELATIVELY SCARCE in 1919 and horse-drawn conveyances were still common. In residential districts, electric streetlights had not yet replaced many of the old gaslights. And within the home, electricity remained largely a luxury item for the wealthy.Just ten years later things looked very different. Cars dominated the streets and most urban homes had electric lights, electric flat irons, and vacuum cleaners. In upper-middle-class houses, washing machines, refrigerators, toasters, curling irons, percolators, heating pads, and popcorn poppers were becoming commonplace. And although the first commercial radio station didn’t begin broadcasting until 1920, the American public, with an adult population of about 122 million people, bought 4,438,000 radios in the year 1929 alone

Note:Thanks to Dr. Zakir Naik for making this valuable information available for everybody. The fact that consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam is well known. The following points explain various aspects of this prohibition:Pork-prohibited in Qur’anThe Qur’an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115.Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked a name other than that of Allah. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book
I decided today to start a diet, just in time for summer. My goal is to be tan and about 30 lbs lighter by then. It seems that lately I've become tired of over consumption, on so many levels - too much materialism, pressure to buys 'things' and follow trends and look good and as my chico likes to kid - eat too well.So yet another leaf turns...Next I'm cleaning out the closet! And just when I declare this - Coach comes along and sticks it to me. I've been secretly coveting this hat:For weeks, now I've walked by the Madison Avenue store and looked at it and thought - that hat would look so fabulous on me! But I didn't even have to look to know it would be outrageously priced and today I did, and of course it was. I have never really been a tag hag, especially Coach, which has become so clich

From: Why beer harms science Using a survey of the publications since 1980 of avian ecologists from the Czech Republic, which has the highest per capita beer consumption rate in the world (157 litres each year, or 176 pints), he discovered "that increasing per capita beer consumption is associated with lower numbers of papers, total citations, and citations per paper (a surrogate measure of paper quality)." He has confidence in the findings because nine in every 10 avian ecologists he approached were happy to provide data. Whether the one in 10 who declined to take part were too busy drinking in the local pub is not known. In addition Dr Grim found the same predicted trends in comparison of two separate geographic areas within the Czech Republic that are also known to differ i

American Consumption Art.This is some of the best piece of artwork we came across for a while now & its by Chris Jordan. Its really a beauty in which Chris expressed so artistically the dry statistics by way of art which is bound to make a mark in the minds of the viewers. His underlying desire is to emphasize the role of the individual in a society that is increasingly enormous, incomprehensible, & overwhelming. To see the real beauty of this artwork you need to click & enlarge the images but we still feel what Chris has stated holds much more weight: "this series is that the prints must be seen in person to be experienced the way they are intended. As with any large artwork, their scale carries a vital part of their substance which is lost in these little web images. Hopefully the JPEGs d
The world economic system is based on development, on enrichment. To achieve this, it is necessary to trade by getting materials by extraction of resources to transform them into products for selling or simply by exporting raw materials for the best price possible. The main difficulty is that this obligatory expansion requires resources such as oil, wood, coal and water and the use of land, sea and atmosphere as a deposit of waste. Thus, the problem is that there is an imbalance between the economic demand and our restricted supplies (Snarr & Snarr 2005: 237).When we put light into “sustainable development”, it is clear the presence of two emphases: a) to protect and conserve the resources of the planet and b) to improve technology to enhance growth (with less impact in global resource

Click for a "beacon in the smog". Since now is a prime time for some serious consumption - I thought it the perfect opportunity to introduce Ask Umbra's Consumption Manifesto. Ask Umbra is an advice column on the Grist website - "gloom and doom with a sense of humor." They offer very informative environmental news all the while keeping it fresh and funny with they're clever (albeit corny at times) headlines and commentary. Here is the manifesto:Article One. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This brilliant triad says it all. Reduce: Avoid buying what you don't need -- and when you do get that dishwasher/lawnmower/toilet, spend the money up front for an efficient model. Reuse: Buy used stuff, and wring the last drop of usefulness out of most everything you own. Recycle: Do it, but know that it's the la
Measuring carbon footprints is an activity renowned for its double-counting pitfalls. Dieter Helm's recent report (pdf) into Britain's "consumption' emissions falls into one.
The World Resource Institute's GHG Protocol, the benchmark methodology for calculating corporate emissions, divides footprints into three scopes: 1) direct (for example emissions from a company's vehicle fleet or factories), 2) indirect emissions associated with energy purchased from third parties and 3) all other emissions, such as emissions in the supply chain or from how customers use products.
Installations in the EU ETS only have regulatory exposure to their direct (scope 1) emissions, because any indirect emissions in the other two scopes are direct emissions for another party. Including them would be double counting.
The higher emissions identified in the study are, in effect, Britain's scope 3 emissions. The British government does not directly control them. Some companies measure their scop
Welcome to the Effortless Weight Loss blog. The theory of reducing calories to lose weight is not a new one. We have all tried it, and lost weight. Problem is to keep it off. We all know that the amount of calories that you consume on a daily basis will determine whether you gain or lose weight.Research showed that overweight people believed they were eating no more food than other people they associated with who were considerably slimmer than them. The overweight people were under the false impression that the reason why they were heavier and gaining weight was due to their body's metabolism. When keeping a record of their food consumption over a specified period of time it was shown that they were actually consuming more calories and it had nothing to do with their metabolism but rather t

Remember back in the 90's when internet stocks were way up, much higher than they should have been? There was a Dot Com Bubble. Remember in 2000 when it burst? Well, that got me thinking...Right now, we're in the midst of an Energy Consumption Bubble. We're using a lot more energy than we need. I'll bet 10 years from now technology will have reached a point where we can be far more productive using far less energy. But first comes the correction. When the Dot Com Bubble burst, things looked bleak. For many, things were bad. If something like that were to happen with energy -- a sharp decline in the amount of available power -- things again would look bad, seem bleak. But then after a while we'd have adjusted and prepared ourselves to soar to newer and greater heights, on energy-efficient wings. That will be fantastic. But for us here in the present, the days of energy restructuring are still looming. When will the Bubble burst?
Brian over at Daily Fuel Economy Tips, writes a straight forward article on ways we can all save some cash at the fuel pump. His tips are pretty simple and you’ve probably read them or heard them before, in fact, i’m sure i’ve covered most of these tips here before. But the tips serve as a solid reminder.
Gas prices are not as high as they were in the summer, but won’t be going down much less than where they are now. In my small town, the average is about $2.70 so it’s not as high as a big city, but could always be lower, right? Below are some quick reminder tips to save on the fuel.
10 Ways to Reduce Gas Consumption
Don’t Drive if You Don’t Have To
Don’t Idle For Too Long
Accelerate Slowly and Moderately
Don’t Speed, Stay at Limit
Coast Instead of Constant Braking
Drive Aerodynamically (keeping windows up and rooftops closed)
If Driving Over 35 MPH, Use A/C
Check for Proper Tire Inflation (conserves up to 3% of gas)

The illicit and hidden nature of drug use makes any information gathering activities difficult, regardless of the topic. When new drug trends are considered, initially at least, only small numbers of individuals are likely to be engaging in the activity and, as such, detection is likely to be challenging simply because of issues of scale. Not all populations of drug users are equally difficult to observe and some patterns of drug use are the focus of considerable monitoring activity. For example, changes in the behaviour of heroin users in contact with treatment agencies may be relatively simple to monitor.New patterns of use, however, are most difficult to detect when they occur in populations that are largely hidden. Similarly, the uses of new substances or innovations in the way existing illicit drugs are used are also difficult to monitor. This is partly because structured data collection often relies on the repeat measure of standardised variables.New substances may simply not be
We’ve talked previously about the health benefits of coffee and the antioxidant compounds responsible for it’s bitterness. To add to the “perks” of coffee consumption, a recent report in the Journal of Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention suggests that caffeine protects against breast cancer in women that have a BRCA1 gene mutation.
What is BRCA1? The acronym stands for breast cancer 1, early onset. The BRCA1 gene encodes a protein that plays a role in maintaining genomic stability and acts as a tumor suppressor. Approximately 5%-10% of breast cancer and ovarian cancer is hereditary and 30%-50% of these are due to DNA mutations in the genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 [1]. Women age 35-40 that carry the BRCA1 mutation are particularly susceptible with a risk between 45%-60% of developing breast cancer [1]. The absolute risk of cancer by age 70 is reported to be between 45% and 87% [2-3].
The authors of the report had previously evaluated the association between c

Just an update.
I find it weird because when I topped up Caltex 95 full tank, the mileage actually decreased i.e.fuel consumption worsened to about 10.5-11.0km/l. I topped up Caltex 95 full tank for another 2 times just to make sure, and I confirm that mileage has deproved regardless of me and my mum's light-footed driving style!
So I've now switched to Caltex 98, and the consumption's looking good. It's currently at 11.5km/l, and the fuel gauge isn't at the half mark yet. My guess is i'll hit at least 12.0km/l when the tank gets empty.
Conclusion: The engine favours 98 and above.

Just when we get lulled into a sense of security about the postive attributes of alcohol as a deterrent for heart disease, someone shows up and ruins the party.
In a very recent study, it appears there may be a significant link between alcohol use and breast cancer. That is not to say that every drink you have drives you closer to cancer, but rather, the more you drink, the higher the risk.
There were a couple of interesting results from the study. First, it appears that the type of alcohol didn’t seem to have any impact on the result of whether someone was diagnosed with cancer. Red wine and tequila seem to be on a level playing field when it comes to breast cancer. I don’t believe that holds true for heart disease.
The other interesting find was that a light drinker (one or less drinks per day) didn’t show any increased risk. “Women who had one or two drinks a day increased their risk of developing breast cancer by 10 percent. Women who had more than three dr

The benefits of fruits and veggies consumption are all too well known. Fruit and vegetables are full of fiber, plus a whole range of vitamins and minerals. They also make an important and healthy part of any diet because they are quite low in calories. Many scientific studies have reported that people who eat a lot of fruit and veggies may have a lower risk of getting illnesses.By consequence, the specialists recommend an intake of at least five portions of fruit or vegetables per person per day. This is to help reduce the risk of prostate cancer and some other malignant conditions, heart disease and many other chronic disorders. By a portion they mean an amount of 80gr. A recent study based on data on more than 257,500 people from Europe, Japan and the US has concluded that consumption of more than the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day can cut risk of stroke as well. Very important is that study observations revealed that people who ate three to five portions cut
Previously I asked myself how much energy is sucked up by the global internet. I found an estimate at Uclue . All these features can be buil in to one small chip which will serve with high reliability and low price.
Lets see how energy (active power) consumption is measured. Active power which is required in form of alternate current (AC) can be calculated as average power over one period:

Affluence, Sustainable Consumption and Sustainable Development by Laura Westra from The Business of Consumption: Environmental Ethics and The Global Economy"Our affluent northern lifestyle is based on a free enterprise system, emphasizing consumption. We depend on an ongoing proliferation of products and services, the presence of which defines, circumscribes, and supports our "good life". However, in recent times, we have begun to acknowledge the need to emphasize sustainability as well as economic growth and development. We have also accepted the fact that there are global dimensions to both and that justice requires that our "development" and its "sustainability" be viewed in the light of the consequences they engender beyond our own countries.Further, it is not only those in developing countries who may be adversely affected because of our practices but also our own minority communities. One could object that the problems of justice, fairness, and their multinational dimensions are
The most effective campaigns to encourage ethical consumption are those that take place at a collective level, such as the creation of Fairtrade cities, rather than those that target individual behaviour. These are the findings of a new study funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The research suggests that ethical consumption is best understood as a political phenomenon rather than simply a market response to consumer demand."For many people, their choice to buy ethical goods or services is shaped by both personal and public commitments" says Dr Clive Barnett of the ESRC's Cultures of Consumption programme. People bring a wide range of ethical concerns to their everyday consumption practices, from the personal responsibilities of family life to more public commitments like membership of a faith community or political affiliation. The research team found that campaigns aimed at getting people to change what they buy often worked on the assumption that individuals la

VANCOUVER — If you feel a pang of guilt whenever you see one of those public-service commercials urging you to replace your prehistoric incandescent light bulbs with fluorescents, your idling computer should make you downright remorseful.
A desktop PC with its cooling fans and whirring disk drives uses enough power to light up to three 100-watt bulbs, more if you count the monitor.
With North American homes averaging two or more computers each, that adds up to a lot of electricity, a lot of greenhouse gas-producing power generation even when they’re not being used.
The information-technology sector has started waking up to the fact it gobbles energy at prodigious rates, says Jeff Omelchuk, managing director of the Portland, Ore.-based Green Electronics Council.

China cut its energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product by 2.78% on year in the first half of this year, improving on its full-year pace last year. Given the nation’s rapid GDP growth, however, the cut didn’t suggest its total energy use declined, but rather grew slightly slower than its 11.5% GDP growth in the first half. It is believed that if data centers are left to grow at the rate that they are, the energy used could double over the next five years or so. This would cost billions of dollars every year, in fact it is estimated that if the consumption of power if left to grow as it is, then around ten new power plants would be needed.
The only way around this is for data centers to become greener, which is why there is an organization called Green Grid which is working to find ways of saving energy ideas for data centers.
There are many ideas, which include standards, equipment and the way local authorities can help in this matter.

To reduce the power consumption of your pc you can do several small small things. One of them is to turn off your pc monitor when it is not been used, like when you are hearing music why should your waste the current by keeping your monitor on? And also when you are not infront of your pc for a time period just off your monitor. Manually offing the monitor all the time is not a good idea, so there is provision to turn your moniter off when there is no activity in your pc for a time you set. To set up this just follow the following simple stepsStep 1 : Right click your mouse anywhere in your desktop and select 'Properties'. Then a dialog box will appear.Step 2 : Then click on the Screen Saver tab and there you can find a button captioned Power. Then another dialog box Power Option Properties will appear.Step 3 : Select a time interval suitable for you in the drop doen menu next to the Turn-off monitor. Then click the Apply button and OK button then exit. Now your monitor will automati
Clients are always surprised that their alcohol use can be an underwriting issue. Whether a person has been through alcohol treatment, has had a DUI, or just consumes higher than average amounts of alcohol, they present an underwriting challenge on more than one level.
Alcohol abuse carries with it both health and lifestyle issues that, without a doubt, have a mortality risk appropriately attached. When a life insurance underwriter is considering someone who has abused alcohol extensively enough to require treatment, they have to weigh the health issues such as liver damage and the life style issues such as alcohol induced depression and suicide, as well as the tendency toward DUI and the associated dangers inherent to that.
Heavy drinkers are often surprised when they are declined without ever having had a DUI, ever having been through treatment, or for that matter, ever admitting to the agent or the company that they even drink. What they didn’t expect was that, in general, if
Unilabs is offering free desktop application to PC users under which you user can define as when to turn off Monitor, Hard Disk and Hibernate the PC etc., what different is its shows the power consumption of each your PCs major components like monitor, hard disk, graphics cards, CPU processor, other fans, sound etc. and estimated power usage of your PC.
The DAC-97 provides a means for monitoring the position error of the antenna for diagnostic purpose. If this error excessive, it indicates external forces are acting on the antenna. These forces may be the result of static imbalance, excessive bearing friction, cable binding, or wind loading. To view the position error, select the REMOTE COMMAND window on the DAC-97 by pressing the MODE key seversl times. Key in “.120 ENTER” (NOTE THE DECIMAL POINT). “X0000” should appear in the command window. Press the MODE key once more to display the REMOTE MONITOR window. The lower display will show “iv” and three 4 digit hexadecimal numbers. The numbers indicate Cross Level, Level and Azimuth errors at a resolution of 1 part in 65536 or 0.0055 degrees. For example a display like “iv FFFF 0001 FFFD” indicates the Cross Level error is -.005 degrees, the level error is +.005 degrees and the Azimuth error is -.016 degrees. The normal range of these numbers is FFF0 to 000F and they typi
More than you ever wanted to know about an Eastern CT Real Estate agent and how she uses the new media.Bonnie Erickson, one of my favorite real estate bloggers, has memed me. Her blog Real Estate Snippets is creative and well written. I'll forgive her for causing me to have to do this. The term "meme" (rhymes with dream) seems to have evolved from a book by Richard Dawkins in 1976. As it relates to blogging, I rather like the definition provided on The Daily Meme. Here ya go, Bonnie:WEB - I live here most days. My first real estate website was in 1996. I have a paper copy of it that I printed out for history. It is surprisingly not all that bad for a homemade website created in Microsoft Publisher. I'm not sure anyone actually found it, except my other techie real estate friends. SEO wasn't in the picture for me yet. There also were not any template sites or many web designers for real estate agents back then. Front Page was
Does power consumption double PS3 cost?
£800 for the console and the power it will drain away
There cannot be any doubt about it, the PlayStation 3 is an astonishing device. It wields the same amount of power as a mighty gaming PC while measuring just a fraction of the size. It handles Blu-ray movies with ease and the graphics it can produce are nothing short of stunning.
Its main criticism has been its price, though. When it launched in the UK it cost £425 and you still can’t get one for much less than 400 quid. And unfortunately for gamers, this is not the end of the story with the PS3.
Ignoring the hundreds of pounds that every owner is willing to spend on games over a long enough time period, there’s another stealthy money-draining factor at play here: power consumption.
Wii wins againAdvertisement
Power consumption research site Sust-It says the PS3 costs £47.69 a year to run. The site assumes that the PS3 will be used for two hours a day and will squeeze every wat
Coca-Cola uses over 76 billion gallons of water a year. Today, they made the ambitious announcement that they are putting $20 million towards plans to off-set their massive water consumption.
Their press release says that Coca-Cola will use the funds to conserve seven major rivers worldwide, and improve their bottling practices to reduce pollution and water use.
This announcement was made at the World Wildlife Foundation’s annual meeting in Beijing.
“The Coca-Cola Company is answering the call to help solve the global freshwater crisis through this bold partnership,” said James Leape, Director General of WWF International. “The Company is stepping into new and uncharted territory, and we look forward to working together to meet the bold commitments they have made to water stewardship.”
Check out the entire details of Coca-Cola’s plan here!
You know, $20 million seems like a lot, but I bet it’s only a teeny fraction of their annual
Over the past several years, my stock picks have beat all of the major U.S. indices. However, I don’t consider myself a stock picker. My performance record is short term and likely a product of investing in value companies during a bull market. I was speaking with a friend yesterday about my success investing in [...]
Conditions Worsen For Summer Home Sales by Realty Times - 6/5/07 snip:...Naysayers have predicted that housing will truly sink, bringing the record gains of the past few years down with it. One of those prognosticators is Yale economist Robert Shiller, author of "Irrational Exuberance," a book which correctly predicted the stock market reversal of 2001, which began almost to the day it hit the bookstores. Since then, Shiller has been turning his attention to housing, creating a housing price index that he and others believe is more accurate than others because it tracks the sales of the same properties and excludes refinancings. Shiller has been predicting a housing market downturn for years, and created a company that sells futures which allows people to hedge against housing price swings. "Markets are driven by the unenlightened," he told Newsweek back in 2005. By 2007, Shiller told Money Magazine that "the story that has sustained the housing boom is that homes are like stocks." Bu
No, AMD recently unveiled their new model of the Athlon X2 called the BE-2350. The main speculation of the Athlon X2 BE-2350 is its low power consumption. AMD has always been on top for power efficient microprocessors, obviously way ahead of Intel in that department. We just covered Intel’s green light, and now, AMD is [...]

I have discussed 13 aspects of our sport where I believe you can make a difference in your air consumption. Some may only yield tiny results, some larger or none at all. I am convinced however that if you are concerned about high air usage and address all of these areas you will see a continued and significant improvement.I hope that divers reading this will have their own views and other suggestions that I have missed – it would be great to hear your comments. This is where we come full circle in the discussion on improving your air consumption underwater. Diving is like many sports, the more you do, the better you get at it and the easier it all becomes. As things become second nature you can relax your body and mind allowing you to take full advantage of the air that you take underwater with you in your tank.

Note how far down the list I have put breathing techniques and this is the one people feel holds the magic answer. I firmly believe that if you address all the previously discussed headings, relax and get the basics right, you will see an improvement in your air consumption.Again, yoga teaches breathing techniques as part of relaxation and there are some things you can try underwater. It is widely accepted that in diving, breathing should be slow and deliberate (as in yoga) using the full normal range of the lungs. I and others have found that reversing your normal pattern of breathing can really help you use air more efficiently hence conserving it.At rest, your normal breathing pattern will be; breathe in, breath straight out, pause with empty lungs for second or 2 and then repeat.Try reversing this by breathing in slowly, pausing at the top of the breath, breathing out slowly then immediately in slowly again with no pause at the bottom of the breath. I find I adopt this pattern

In the outskirts of Uppsala the land of cars and consumption begins. Here we find samples of the ugliest things man is able to achieve. This is where families go to buy needful things in the weekends. Moving around in this area makes me feel nauseous. Consumerism, is a plague that is spreading around the globe and heating our planet.Click the pictures to see them in large format. Notice that the Biltema (car theme) store has church-like windows. Such bad taste! These shoebox structures are our times temples where we worship consumption. What will future archaeologists and historians think of this madness?
It would seem to make intuitive sense that good cardiovascular fitness would lead to better air consumption. It is however a difficult one to prove as there are so many variables at play. I can’t find any strong studies on this subject and think that it would be fascinating to conduct one.On one hand you have fitter people being able to make better use of air relating to exercise but on another you have increased muscle ratio and higher metabolism burning more calories at rest.Yoga has certainly shown many benefits in diving; it helps stress management, improves mental alertness, teaches you how to relax, improved use of senses, increases flexibility and concentration on breathing techniques.Overall it would seem to make sense that as in any sport, a diver should maintain some degree of physical fitness.

‘Well what about it?’ I hear you ask.And my answer may be unpopular with a lot of people. In my opinion most divers take cameras into the water before they have sufficiently honed their diving skills. Destruction of the reefs aside (as out of control diver/photographers crash into it) this is a discussion on air consumption.A camera is another piece of gear to cope with. It causes drag, is a distraction and can task load someone who still has skills such as buoyancy to master. All of these factors will cause an increase in air consumption. With the revolution in digital cameras and housings, underwater photography is within reach of many divers and of course it is great fun. If you are concerned about your air consumption and dive with a camera, do an experiment. Leave the camera on the boat for 1 dive and see if it makes a significant difference. If so (and I believe even the most experienced photographers use more air when taking photos than diving without a camera) you hav

Divers often show their personalities in the way they dive - there are those who are very busy buzzing about the reef and those who are laid back and going with the flow.Guess who normally lucks out on air consumption? During training, I often get my students to see if they can increase their dive speed by just 50%. Sounds easy however the effort required leaves them and me gasping for breath after about 30 seconds. That particular dive doesn't tend to last very long!Obviously all movement cannot be cut out on a dive else you would never go anywhere. It is very important therefore that movements should be as energy efficient as possible. Because of the density of water, slow steady movements are most efficient - there is no use fighting water, it will win every time and rob you of your air to boot.Pace your dive and try to develop an efficient fin kick which allows you to kick and glide, kick and gliiide, kick and gliiiiiiiide - you get the idea.

If you’ve ever done an aerobics class, there’s a reason the instructor makes you do all those arm movements until you feel that they are going to drop off. It’s exactly the same reasoning that made your diving instructor want to tie you arms to your side during your first dive course. The introduction of upper body movement can increase your metabolism by up to 30%. Great if you want to burn calories in an aerobics class, disastrous for air consumption on a dive – enough said!

If you get yourself neutrally buoyant but find that you fall forwards, backwards or to one side or another then your trim needs adjusting (imagine everyone on a small plane suddenly standing up and all moving to one side!).You can correct yourself in the water, (using movement, energy and therefore more air) as many times as you wish however you will always fall back unless you correct the cause. The solution is normally as simple as shifting a weight slightly. It won’t fix itself - don’t put up with it!

Experimental and epidemiological studies were reviewed to assess whether the consumption of green tea could reduce the risk of lung cancer in smokers. Articles published since 1990 were located by searching electronic databases PubMed, Ovid and Science Direct, using keywords ‘lung cancer’, ‘tea’ and ‘smoking’ without any restriction on language. After relevant articles had been located, further papers were obtained from their reference lists. Evidence from experimental studies (in vitro animal and human trials) suggested that regular intake of green tea may be protective against tobacco carcinogens. However, the mechanism behind the protective effect is only partly understood. In most of the epidemiological studies reviewed, the green tea exposure was within 5 years of the interview or follow-up, which would coincide with the induction period and latent period of lung cancer. Longer term studies are thus needed to further quantify the cancer risk. There is some evidence sug
Mastering your buoyancy is a key skill relevant to all aspects of your diving. If you have complete buoyancy control you can eliminate extraneous movements underwater. As water is so dense, all movements use much more energy than the same movement on land and hence use more air. Correct buoyancy also allows you to perfect the fin kick of your choice to propel you most efficiently through the water. There are many fun exercises you can do to hone your buoyancy but something you should do all the time on every dive is use fixed visual references to give you a continual picture of where you are relative to everything else.If you catch buoyancy lapses quickly, you spend less energy correcting them thus conserving more air.

Correct weighting is essential for efficient air consumption.Weighting is a key component in buoyancy control (discussed below) but also has a tremendous impact on your efficiency in the water. Overweighting tends to drag the lower part of the body down so even if neutrally buoyant, divers need to kick continuously to remain horizontal in the water. All that kicking requires energy which requires air. To make matters worse, if you are over weighted, you will need to add more air to your jacket to remain neutrally buoyant at depth – your jacket will therefore have more volume causing more drag through the water. A double whammy on your air consumption!Additionally, the more weight you carry, the more inertia you have (think about a truck braking as opposed to a car) meaning it takes more effort to change direction and as we know effort equals air – is there such a thing as a triple whammy? Under weighting will have similar impact on your air consumption as you struggle to kick
