Making improvements to your lighting is one of the fastest ways to cut your energy bills. An average household dedicates 11% of its energy budget to lighting. Using new lighting technologies can reduce lighting energy use in your home by 50% to 75%. Advances in lighting controls offer further energy savings by reducing the amount [...]
It is hot. Very hot. The A/C is running on overtime these days. So I have become the light-nazi in our home. Each time I walk through the house, I check and recheck to make sure no unnecessary lights are left on. High electric bills are inevitable in Texas. Since A/C is a necessity, I like to conserve other energy sources as much as possible.Trouble is, my kids seem to think electricity is free

Today was really hot, which reminds me that summer is almost here. Over here in Southern California where we don’t really have heating bills, summer always means a much higher electric bill because of air conditioning. Although I always try to tough it out by not turning the A/C unit on, I think [...]
I came across a t-shirt today that said Eco-warrior and immediately I thought about the warrior poses in Yoga. Warrior Pose is a powerful yet deceptibly simple pose that harnesses inner strength to overcome obstacles. It doesn’t use brute force and it’s not an impressive pose has you trapezing in the air like an acrobat. [...]

A tankless water heater can usually operate based on the concept that it would be heating water as it is needed. They are a lot different from the traditional hot water heaters which typically requires storage tanks since tankless water heaters do not any kind of storage tank which would mean that you would not [...]
Well, now that gas prices have hit as high as $3.75 here in town, I find myself in the awkward position of changing my long time driving habits to conserve fuel. Alas, the days of me in the Intrepid V, speeding down endless roads in the Nevada desert at speeds over 100 miles an [...]

The 2007 Spring season in the Southeast region of the United States was the driest since the National Climactic Data Center began keeping records in 1895. We all remember the images of wildfires in the West ravaging dried forests last year. Cattle ranchers were selling their stock from lack of grass on the fields. Lake Okeechobee, America's second largest fresh water body was drying up. Things
Three countries that took part in the second "Heart of Borneo" (HoB) meeting -- Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam -- have agreed to implement five things to protect forest areas, conservation and production forests for the sake of future generations, a senior Agriculture Ministry official said.Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, the ministry`s director of forest areas and nature conservation (PHKA), Nur Hidayat, said the three countries had committed themselves to implementing five points agreed on during the four-day Heart of Borneo meeting in Pontianak from April 1 to 4.The five points had to do with space layout, utilization of protected and conserved forests in accordance with their types or qualifications, processing of forest products based on conservation principl
Vola Faucet featured above is stylish option that helps you conserve water.
I currently have a leaky faucet in the bathroom that’s driving me bat shit insane. As a budding environmentalist, I know how important water conservation is and here I am, battling a gluttonous water faucet that won’t stop dripping. I am hoping that the management [...]
Belkin Conserve Energy-Saving Surge Protector - I know… yuck, surge protectors. However, that sentiment is probably the reason why the Belkin Conserve didn’t get as much press coverage as it deserved when it was unveiled at CES 2008. What makes this product unique is that it has been designed to literally turn on/off power to all your connected wall warts while [...] More: continued here Other Review: Bye Bye Birdie (1963 Film Soundtrack) (Audio CD)

Every month, we would get tons of paper bills from different companies. Cell Phone bills alone waste 20 sheets of paper. I decided to make my life more simple and help conserve trees by signing up for electronic billing statements. So far I signed up for our bank statement, car insurance, car payment, electricity bill, [...]
In October Kiplinger’s released what they called their “Green Issue” in which they basically dedicated the entire issue to “Green” living. A buddy of mine recently asked me for a copy of an article in the issue called, “29 Ways to Conserve and Save.” So, I figured I would share it with the CPF readers as well. I picked out my 10 favorite from the article.
Use compact florescent light bulbs (CFLs) instead of traditional bulbs. Kiplinger’s mentions that, “if every U.S. household replaced just one incandescent bulb with a CFL, the emissions savings would be comparable to taking three million cars off the road for a year.” Supposedly the bulbs pay for themselves (from the energy savings) over the course of a year or so.
Add extra insulation to your water heater. If you have a water heater built before 2004, you can wrap it with an insulating jacket and save about $30 a year on your water heating bill.

It is a global issue that gas and oil are becoming scarce the past years. This can be attributed to the fact that the looming oil crisis has reached practically the whole world. The price per liter or gallon is something that can be disheartening but that is the reality we have to face today.
So what are we to do? Well, we can limit our trips, or resort to various measures that include taking public transportation or going on car pools. For some people, using a bike may be good as well.
But the thing is, this gas crisis is a reality today. On whether this crisis is temporary or continuous is another factor. Whatever happens, it would be best to be ready for the worst scenario that can occur.

For the true environment buff or the true power saver, there are already many ways to save money and energy; bio-diesal, electric cars, solar energy etc etc. But here's a way you can contribute to saving energy: go to http://www.blackle.com/ to do your google searches instead of google.com (the results are served by Google of course) You should notice that the background for the site is black. (this saves energy because your monitor needs less power to display a dark screen) Brilliant idea indeed, whatsay? The site claims to have saved 129,669.593 Watt hours at the time or witting this post already. Whatever that means. But I'd advice that youto bookmark the site as your homepage instead of Google. It should help you save some money on your electricity bill as well!!Related:-Global Warming.Monsoon Pattern.
Toonel offers a unique way to conserve network bandwidth by trying to compress the resources transferred and thereby increasing overall throughput. Whenever a request is made to access or download a file from the network or Internet, it compressed the data transferred, thus saving the network bandwidth. If you are paying a fee based on network traffic consumption (have monthly download limit), it is highly recommended that you use Toonel. Besides , it is completely free to use. How to use it? Using Toonel is easy. Simply download the package which suits your platform and set the following HTTP, HTTPS and FTP proxy settings for the connection you wish to use: 127.0.0.1 port 8080. Please refer to your system help on how to change proxy settings. Their support page may also be useful and shows how to configure certain applications. If you have personal firewall running you may need to allow Java Internet access as well. If your package contains just a single jar file you can
As we all know from school the earth’s water is constantly in movement, the water cycle or hydrologic cycle, describes the movement of water above, below, and under the earths surface. As the name ‘water cycle’ implies there is no beginning or end to this process and while water may change state from liquid, to vapour, to ice depending on the part of the water cycle that you are looking at, the amount of water on Earth remains constant over time. Unfortunately there are now more and more people on the planet to share this limited resource with, and the only way to deal with the growing shortage is to conserve as much water as possible by using what we have in the most responsible way.Even when water seems abundant it’s important that we all do our bit to conserve as much as possible, aside from the obvious benefits of conserving water in an effort to reduce costs to you or your business, the widely publicised environmental concerns should also give us all a real incentive to co
Very interesting article in The New York Times, Buying Into The Green Movement. This piece talks about our eagerness to literally "buy into" the green movement, causing critics to question the fundamental issue...are we "consuming to conserve", thus, this line of thinking being a paradox? Are we eager to buy new green products, products, whether green or not green, which may not truly be needed at all, thus, creating an unnecessary environmental impact?I can't advise new homeowners whose kitchen is 40 years old and damaged, to forego renovating their kitchen. I am not of that philosophy, although some may be. To me, THAT is an oxymoron. However, there are ways to think a little deeper as to how one can be green, with, or even without, the use of green products. Let's take new kitchen cabinetry. A client may have an interest in designing with "green" products. One issue, which has a huge environmental impact, of course, is fuel. A homeowner may want
There are many small ways once can conserve energy around the home. With todays technology and because of wide broadband access, many homes have internet enable computers and over time, folks just stop turning them off.
What many people don’t know, is that even if you do power off your PC at night, their is still juice being used and being charged on your electric bill. One simple way to conserve energy use with computers and other always plugged in devices like phone chargers, camera chargers, vcr’s, dvd’s, and home entertainment systems is by using a earth-friendly power strip.
There are fancy models of power strips on the market, but the Belkin 6 outlet Surge Protector Power Strip i have pictured above will do the trick, just as well, as any higher priced model. To save energy and lower your monthly electric bill just turn off the power strip, instead of unplugging several devices every night.
You’ll sleep better, too, knowing your devices are taking a break
Money saving tips for landscaping is a subject often covered in books, discussion groups and across the web. Information on how to save money on virtually any landscape project is therefore readily available (the most obvious answer invariably being . . . do it yourself!). A topic less frequently covered however . . . is how landscaping can actually save you money (and maybe even make you some!).

Lately I’ve been more interested in finding different ways to help the environment and saving money. You get a good feeling from being able to help save the environment and yet at the same time, able to save some money. So I’m always looking for a new way to do that even if it’s just something small (cause every lil’ bit helps).
According to the website it helps you save water and money everytime you take a shower. Everyone lets the water run while it warms up and what this does is once it detects that the water is hot enough, it’ll show down the flow until you get in (or are ready to get in) and then you push a button to start the flow again. It can save you over $75 a year in wasted water costs.
I think I might buy one to test out and then post a review about it later. It sells for $39.95 and it should pay for itself within a few months.
If your laptop is a power hog like mine and you can't get it to last longer than an hour, there are some things you can do to make the battery last longer. These tips are especially useful if you need to use the computer for an extended period of time and StandBy mode and all the settings under the Power Schemes dialog (such as turning off the hard disk or turning off the monitor) really won't help you since everything needs to be on!Here are the major components that take up most of the power in a laptop:1. Hard Disk2. Laptop Dislplay3. CD/DVD drive4. Network Card5. Modem6. Floppy driveThese tips will be the most effective if you are planning on using your computer to do something where you don't need to connect to the Internet or use your CD/DVD drive. If you're just writing a paper or creating a PowerPoint presentation, then you can extend your battery power the most. Since all of these devices use up power, the best way to conserve power is to simply turn them off!Let's first
A declaration to protect the forested Heart of Borneo was signed today by ministers from the three Bornean governments - Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia. The agreement will conserve and sustainably manage one of the most important centers of biological diversity in the world, inhabited by endangered orangutans, elephants and rhinos. The agreement ends plans to create the world's largest palm oil plantation that would have cleared a vast rainforest along Indonesia's border with Malaysia across the world's third largest island.
