      Early Morning Conor
He's so enjoyable when he first wakes. Not that he isn't at other times, but morning Conor is quite different. He's very quietly spoken, very lucid and talks incessantly about what happened when he woke and what he's about to do next:"It's not dark now. I get up. I went to the toilet. Good Con-Cons". He claps. "I need knickers and pants. It's cold. Con-Cons wants food now. Mummy has a c

Autism, Conor and the Fredericton Flood 2008
Fredericton has been hit by some serious flooding. The pictures above are taken in Nashwaaksis, the area where we live in Fredericton. We have done fine. Lots of water coming into the basement but nothing we couldn't handle (so far) with buckets, a Shop Vac, a sump pump and some sleep deprivation. With a disrupted routine and lots of commotion, which are often difficult for children with Autism, we were concerned about how Conor would react. We needn't have worried. Dad has been home because of the flood and I have hung out with my buddy when possible. Which is lots of fun for me too. With everything under control with a new sump pump Dad and Conor went walking again to one of Conor's favorite spots, the Circle Place, as we call the Lawrence Amphitheatre. Today though we arriv

Autism Fun - Conor and Dad at the Circle Place
After a long tough winter it is no problem getting Conor outdoors for a walk, especially if we go to "the circle place", the Lawrence Amphitheatre in Nashwaaksis. The Saint John River has flooded this spring and we have to take a different route. Once there Conor loves to walk around the rings and circle at "the circle place". After Conor relaxes with a watermelon treat.autism

Autism & Stimming, 2000+ Views for Conor Stimming Video
"Conor Counting and Stimming", Conor's Youtube video showing him stimming while counting from 1 to 100, has now received more than 2000 views (2,050 at present, without CNN promotion).Conor has Autistic Disorder with profound developmental delays. He will not be attending Simon's Rock College for gifted youths. And he will not be writing elaborate screenplays explaining how his stimming is a way of communicating with the physical world around him. His language skills are not that good. As far as I can tell, Conor stims to relieve tension and frustration. He enjoys stimming and we do not try to eliminate stimming behavior. But it is not a "language" in any sense of that word. His favorite stim object is the straw which he manipulates in this video.Conor's stimming is not dramatic, it i

      Conor's New Favourite Ad
I never thought I could find house insulation material so adorable.Conor's up and off with Daddy at 5 am tomorrow. They're traveling north to Parihaka for a friend's headstone unveiling. I haven't been away from Conor in a long, long time and this equates to two days worth. I considered going myself but Isla is not as placid as Conor who was a very well behaved boy during the two Tangi (funerals) he attended.Tomorrow is also ANZAC day and with all the holiday travel there will be I'm anxious about loonies and speedsters on the roads.

      Chef Conor
I occasionally let Conor help cook dinner. I don't do it often as I have Isla to contend with crawling riot around the house and I need to be quick. I prefer to take my time with him if I can. There's the general two year old lax attitude to hot burny things which complicates matters and he's actually quite bossy. I made a very easy Spaghetti Bolognese tonight and he did most of the stirring and adding of ingredients. He was a little Gordon-Ramsey-esque with the herbs. I'm a herb nut and add whatever takes my fancy. I'm sure most compete with each other and I go overboard. I used dried as I could not be bothered to go out and fetch the rosemary, thyme and parsley from our poor excuse for a garden, in the dark. Well, Conor demanded "more bits" and became a little foul over being

      Conor Anatomy
Learning the names for his different parts is fun, washing those parts himself, not so much. We are working on that. He's mastered most of the important areas and delights in words like forehead ("forrid"), clavicles (well, collar bones seemed harder), fingers/phalanges, toes/phalanges and his "uniqua" which stands for urethra. He understands that's there's lots of hard things under his skin called bones and that they form a skeleton. Blame MGM's late night screening of the 1963 Jason and The Argonauts. Conor had woken upset and needed a cuddle in the lounge. He got campy fighting skeletons as an extra. We just had to explain that skeletons don't go walking around like that attacking people. In fact, they do not walk around at all. The same sort of explanation applied when he saw

Human Weapon MMA Episode: Jason Chambers vs Conor Huen
A fight scene from one of the more entertaining episodes from "Human Weapon"- Jason Chambers vs. Conor Huen of the IFL. Why was this great? You get to see Jason execute a perfect Twister. I bet Eddie Bravo had his "O face" on watching this particular episode., this series started from "watchable" and devolved into just plain terrible. But that doesn't mean a few episodes weren't entertaining. The biggest difference between Human Weapon and Fight Quest is that the guys on Fight Quest will at least subtly let you know that they think a particular aspect of a martial art is silly, but on Human Weapon, they try to take everything face-value and seriously. Also, when they did the ninjitsu and kung fu episodes, those were really just plain embarrassing to watch. They really made kung fu look ter

Autism and Stimming - Conor Shows How It Is Done
The photos above are of Conor relaxing with Dad this morning at the Second Cup, Kings Place, Fredericton, one of our favorite weekend haunts. The staff have seen him there with Dad for the past several years. They know he has autism disorder. They know him as Conor. They have seen Conor laughing and enjoying himself. They have seen him melt down on occasion. Conor has always been very welcome at the Second Cup.In the photos above, in sequence from top to bottom, Conor is seen stimming with a straw, his favorite stim object. In the bottom picture the straw is moving so fast you can barely see it in the photo. If you look at the basket behind Conor in the first 3 photos you will clearly see a red ribbon hanging down the side of the basket. If you look at the bottom pic you will see

      Conor Loves The Snow
This is one of the hardest winters we have experienced in this part of the world for a long time. But Conor is not complaining about the snow. Heck no, the snow is no problem and autism is not an issue. Conor enjoys the snow, he loves the snow, just like so many other Canadian kids.autism

Where's Conor? Where Did Conor Go?
Conor has autism disorder. He also has his own lively personality quite separate and apart from his autism. He is much more as a person than his autism. He is a lot of fun. While these pictures were being taken I was asking "Where's Conor?" "Where did Conor go?" (When my mouth wasn't covered).Conor enjoyed every second of our fun. And so did Dad.autism

Looking Forward with Bright Eyes (I Love Love Love Conor Oberst!)
Billboard.com had previously started a firestorm of debate and criticism over Bright Eyes recent decisions. The indie darlings signed with Universal Music Group and also Polydor for overseas distribution. Ravenhouse Ltd. Is their new management company, best known for turning past indie darlings Modest Mouse into a lucrative money-making machine. Additionally, a music video, the first ever to feature Conor, was filmed in Febraury and he’ll be stopping by AOL and a few radio stations to promote “Cassadag.” Ravenhouse Ltd. Management Company. His new manager, Juan Carrera, oversaw Modest Mouse's transition from indie darling to selling more than 1 million copies of its last release. So does this mean that they are in fact selling out? While many are quick to say yes and cast the band aside, I feel obligated to come to their defense. Artists want and deserve to make money. By joining with big name partners Bright Eyes will have a chance to really spread their music to a larger numb

      Conor Oberst is Bright Eyes
Conor Oberst is Bright Eyes and Bright Eyes is Conor Oberst. What should we call or how to categorise this music? Indie-experimental-country? Tonight Conor Oberst plays in Debaser Medis in Stockholm, Sweden. One of my sons are queeing outside the place with some friends, all in vain. The tickets are sold out since long ago. Facts from Wikipedia about Conor Oberst: Conor Mullen Oberst (born February 15, 1980) is an American singer-songwriter best known for his work in Bright Eyes. He has also played in several indie rock bands, including Desaparecidos, Commander Venus and Park Ave., and is co-founder and executive partner in the independent record labels Team Love and Saddle Creek Records. I said to my son about standing outside in the chilly night in Stockholm: stay home instead, listen to Conor Oberst at home instead. As here for example, from YouTube: Conor Oberst solo [Bright Eyes] Arienette. Andra bloggar om: Conor Oberst, Bright Eyes, indie, video, musik, music, alternative, ex
