It’s Going to Get Worse Newsweek Web Exclusive - snips:Economist David Lereah (of the NAR) was once the housing market's biggest cheerleader. Now he says the bust isn't near over, and home prices still have a long way to fall... "We're not at the bottom," he says. "[People] want it to be near the bottom, but we're not there yet. The leading indicators are still very bad. Pending home sales are still in bad shape. Mortgage applications are low … There's still supply out there in abundance … This thing is going to get worse before it gets better." Lereah says that the industry may begin to see a slight uptick in sales later this summer, which could signal the start of the recovery. Home prices, however, will continue to fall... That's quite a turnabout from the view he articulated in h
"Looking forward, Fannie said it expects "severe weakness in the housing market to continue in 2008," with the weakness projected to "lead to increased delinquencies, defaults and foreclosures on mortgage loans, and slower growth in U.S. residential mortgage debt outstanding." "

visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site When I first heard months ago that they were remaking Sweeney Todd I was excited. Once I found out that it was being done by Tim Burton, I was in awe. I can't wait for this movie to be released. For those of you who don't know the history of this movie, it was first released in theaters in 1936. Yes, you read that right. However, that was not the first appearance of Sweeney Todd. There were stories written about him in the late 1800s. There are some arguments as to whether or not Sweeney Todd actually existed. In the late 70s and early 80s, Sweeney Todd was released as a musical starring Angela Lansbury. First off, the movie stars Johnny Depp. Can we say yummy? He is a great actor and really gets into character. I can't wait to see him as the great Demon Barber himself! Then we have Mrs. Lovett being portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter. She is a pretty good actress. I just keep picturing her as Bellatrix Lestrange
Worship Text-Fessional:
Wow what a crazy week…thanksgiving came and flew by. We had an awesome thanksgiving.
There are 5 churches in the area that the pastors have been meeting together for prayer every few weeks. One of the pastors is ours (my dad). The others are a non denom, Baptist, Evangelical Free, Charismatic Eucharistic Church (thats us), and A presbyterian. So one day they decided to have a Day before thanksgiving service at the Presbyterian Church and invite all 5 churches. Have any of you ever tried that? It almost never works. Nobody shows up and it’s awkward because the Charismatic guys are afraid of scaring the baptists etc etc. So we went with lousy expectations. I was asked to co lead worship and we didn’t know what to do. We decided on Open the eyes, Forever, and blessed be your name. The service opened with the churches trumpet player and huge pipe organ. Wow the hymns like that are sweet. Then 3 pastors preached then worship then hymn and 2 more p

Dashboard Confessional don't like rich people. The first track of their emo-tastic new album, The Shade of Poison Trees, mockingly speaks of 'upper crust tragedies' and is titled When There's Gold..., and an entire song is later devoted to the issue of money, power and inheritance. The rest of the album, thankfully, is deeper than this: a journey through a young mind that contains enough earnest honesty to make up for the lack of musical depth throughout.
Chris Carrabba's solo project turned established act have shied away from the pop-rock distorted guitars of their previous lyrics to return to a more acoustic-driven style that emphasises the lyrical content of the songs as opposed to their tuneful, catchy riffs and melodies. It's a shame, then, that it's not really worked.
The songs revolve around personal relationships and emotional conflict as you'd expect for a band that are relentlessly labelled 'emo' and adored by fans in skinny jeans. Metaphor is
So it’s Sunday morning and I am stoked about the service..I mean I can’t wait because I think the songs are dead on with what God wants.
Not only that but Im doing I will lift my eyes for offering. What a killer song.
I get woken from my 6 year old Tristan…”Get up daddy”…ok fine…I come out and my wife is sitting on the couch. She says “Joel, I didn’t sleep at all call the hospital and see if we need to go in because I’m getting more frequent contractions.”
Oh my…your kidding ok…AHHHHHH my dad is gonna have to play pastor and worship leader today Cus we are going to the hospital.
8:30 Am - noon.- no change and my wife is gonna kill the doctor because of it.
Noon they give her pitosin to move it along

A bit off topic, but Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder confessed today he didn’t know until Tuesday that people spoke English in London.
Crowder, a former Florida Gator and Atlanta native, apparently isn’t sure where the plane is headed when it takes off this afternoon for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants in Wembley Stadium.
“I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries,” Crowder said. “I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that.
“I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That’s the closest thing I know to London. He’s black, so I’m sure he’s not from London. I’m sure that’s a coincidental name.”
…Not quite sure I know what to say about this one…
…I hope he was joking…
In the new issue of Blender, Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional received their rating of the 35th worst lyricist in rock. Well, I suppose they are entitled to their opinion, and his songs are a bit self-indulging, although I think a good song almost has to be. In any case, I do take mild offense that the one song they chose as their example of his poor writing is one of my all-time favorite songs ever, “The Sharp Hint Of New Tears” from the album “The Swiss Army Romance”. That song brings me back to a certain time in my past when, yes I admit it, I was heartbroken. And even though I am happy that it is all in the past, I appreciate a song like this, which reminds me of such a time and place, and state of being. I’m not likely to ever go back to such senseless heartbreak. Yet, it is somehow comforting to still have that connection to those over the top emotions, which I can experience when I hear this song again. Okay, I’ll stop writing.
Being a kick-ass dad does not necessarily mean being a model parent. Maybe this is why generations before us never let dads do the child rearing. Well wake up people! It's a new age - one with better therapists and self-help websites ... just in case.
Dashboard Confessional released their 5th album last October 2. I am really not a big fan of the band so there's nothing much to say. Given the benefit of the doubt that they are fantastic artists, and I might actually like their latest album, I give it a try playing the albums' full tracks over the weekend. Honestly, I can't feel the song at all, and so I played it again, the full album. Sorry but listening to it for about an hour was such a waste of time --- really. And then I get back to their previous albums, they're nicer than this one. Their latest album which features dozen of songs, I must say has boring lyrics and vocals that lack of enthusiasm. Every song is extremely short and certainly doesn’t tell a story. Album entitled "The Shade of Poison Trees" up now for download here. Password is "http://hethler.blogspot.com". Great set this week.
This was a really cool service because in the middle of it we had a renewing of vows ceremony for an awesome couple in our church. This is a couple who not only got to renew their vows but got to dedicate their marriage to the King. Gotta love that!
So we opened this week with All creatures of Our God and King. This has to be one of my top 5 favorite hymns. I love it. We did it crowder style of course.
Then we had prayers and went into our gloria in a lower key to be a ble to transition better into the raucous Dancing Generation. This song gets the church pumped up and people hopping around. It is very cool to see people get into God like that.
After that we did some changes to the original list going into Friend of God and Holy God (doerksen). Holy God to me is one of the top worship songs out there. It comes from Doerksens last CD and it hits me every time.
Then You Amaze me by Michael Neale. Another top 5 for me. His stuff is brilliant and that song is so powe

Last details of the upcoming album of Jimmy Eat World! ‘Chase The Lights’ will be available in stores from 16 October and it’ll be packed with these songs:
Big Casino
Let It Happen
Like She’ll Always Be
Carry You
Electable (Give It Up)
Gotta Be Somebody’s Blues
Feeling Lucky
Here It Goes
Chase This Light
Firefight
Dizzy
On Billboard they say:
“The record is quite eclectic,” Vig told Billboard.com. “There are three or four songs that sound like classic Jimmy Eat World, with angular, razor-sharp guitars. There are a couple that are a lot more dreamy, and some that are very groove-acious. Anybody who is fan will like this record.”
And this is the (quite ugly :x) cover (linked from Stereogum):
They are also re-recording ‘Your House’ (originally on Bleed American), and it will probably be released as a B-side.
The Killers are going to release a new album (which will contain some remixes of older albums) this year and also
First, some news about Mellow Music. There won’t be daily updates anymore starting tomorrow, because I’ve got to work, which means a daily “eat, work, eat, sleep” and not much...

Over at Maya's Mom there is a section for anonymous confessions. Fascinating reading, really. Some are funny, some are sad, some seem to be posted out of sheer boredom.

Weekend before last, Mrs. E and I went to see Amazing Grace (with Lil'er E in tow, he slept the whole time). One quote from William Wilberforce, early in the movie, hit home personally to me. Wilberforce, who they say was a good singer in college, is worn down from his constant struggles and says that he has lost his voice and can no longer sing like he once did. This hit me, because I feel much the same way right now. When Little Euphrony was born, I would sing to her constantly to sooth her - singing while I changed diapers, while I rocked her, while I walked with her, all of the time. And the songs I would sing were invariably those I knew best, songs of the church about Christ and God and what they have done for us. Now, with Lil'er E here, I find that the songs do not come. I try to will myself to sing, but the songs and their words seem to elude me. My voice is weak, faltering as I try to sing. Instead of confidence and passion, I find that there is hesitation in my voice. Where

Dusk and Summer -- a cohesive album divergent from the modern-rock collection of songs on 2003's A Mark, a Brand, a Mission, a Scar -- finds Dashboard Confessional's path to maturity leading them, weirdly enough, back to their roots. Whether or not this is a reaction to mainstream success, Dashboard is still very much a full band, but the album is gentler and
