It was such a bizarre event that I cannot recall of any equivalence for it from anywhere in the world!
It is as if these criminal

It’s not quite an old adage yet, but it seems that the more we RV the more we find we don’t know. Like the times when we’re trying to change a thermocouple in the water heater or installing a new left-handed framistan. That’s when blogs like this one and the RV.net forums are like a [...]
This is massively in advance (or not), but these things usually work like snails. Now that the Wardman Wire has a decent front-page video showcase, I'm looking at the possibility of publishing Party Conference Video (and text) Blogs this autumn. I've not been a conference habitué, so if anyone has any useful hints, tips or offers to participate I'd be interested to hear them.
If, like me, you are a special ed law junkie, there are a number of special ed conferences and education law conferences one can attend to meet other special ed law junkies. In March, I attended the conference of the American Council on Rural Special education, or ACRES. In addition to presenting an Update on Special Education Law, I had a meeting with the new Secretary of OSERS and the new Director of OSEP about rural special education issues. Although I spoke a lot at the meeting, a fuller listing of my thoughts about rural issues in special education are spread across two recent posts. I also attended a number of interesting educational sessions, including a day-long workshop on 21st Century learners. As always there were plenty of networking opportunities and meetings with old friends.
Every year, there seems to be more conferences catering to internet designers, developers, marketers, and bloggers. Already this year, there have been some great events like SXSW in Austin and FOWA in Miami. And next week, Future of Web Design comes to London. So the topic for discussion today is:What do you think of these conferences? Are they worth the time and cost (especially if you're paying for it yourself)? Have you ever attended one and what did you find valuable?
This morning I arrived in Brazil. For the next 2 weeks I’ll be doing some consulting, some training, and speaking at 3 conferences spanning Brazil and Uruguay.
The first is Performance Summit 2008 hosted by Dell Brazil. The local organization team, including my friends and top-notch performance testers Carlos Panato and Walter Munstock, have already gone well out of their way to make me feel at home. Thanks guys!

Finding locations to engage in business endeavors, host parties, conduct conferences and still have fun can be extremely difficult. Most places where conferences are held are boring, stale and unappealing. Now there is an opportunity to conduct your serious business while having a little fun. This week, my work placement at GP newspaper has given me a great insight into how the big media cogs turn as they churn out the news. On Tuesday, I visited NICE offices in Holborn for a press conference. That sentence is a little misleading because although the offices were indeed very nice, it is actually an acronym for the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (or the National institute for Curbing Expenditure as a cynical doctor once told me).As GP goes to press on Tuesdays, I was sent out as the lone reporter to cover the story *gulp*.Among the journos gathered were reporters from The Times, The Guardian, two from the BBC and er, one from The Daily Express. When we were given the opportunity to ask questions, David Rose from The Times put his hand up quicker than me and said what
One of our readers's Beth Vogt from Mommy-Come-Lately sent the following comment and question:
I'm intrigued by the different conference options available these days: parent/teacher, including the student, and now student-led conferences. Maybe I'm straddling the fence here, but why does it have to be an all or nothing proposition? Why does it have to be one or the other? Maybe give the parents or students a choice. I know one of my daughter's wouldn't have felt comfortable--at least at a young age--doing a student-led conference. My son, on the other hand, would have relished the opportunity.
I also agree with Mary Scribner (see Student-Led Conferences) that there needs to be some time where parents and teachers can talk about a student without the student being there.
I just attended my first-grader's first parent/teacher conference. Before I went, I asked if there was anything I needed to know. "Well, my teacher did have to tell me not to say "ain't," my daughter told m

Parent-Teacher Conferences is the theme this month on the A Wild Ride Web site. Under strategies you will find ways to Feel Successful Before, During and After Parent-Teacher Conferences from Parent Coach Rachel Eden. You’ll also find Karen L. Alainiz’s story Time for A Change and several useful resources.
Earlier this week, I wrote about the trend to include the student in the conferences, a trend I support but others prefer the traditional approach. Beth K. Vogt, author of the book BABY CHANGES EVERYTHING: Embracing and Preparing for Motherhood after 35 and the Blog Mommy-Come-Lately , commented on my post:
I've only participated in parent-teacher conferences--lots of them, with three grown children and one in first grade. It always worked well for me the old-fashioned way. I'm not adverse to the P-T-S conference. I figure the P-T conference shouldn't tell me anything I don't already know.
Now I hear of another trend: Student-Led Conferences. We’ve not experienc
Seems the latest trend in Parent-Teacher conferences is to add the student to the mix. Some controversy swirls around this progressive decision. Is it right for every parent and every student?
Both my sons went to private schools where the student was part of the discussion. At first this was extremely intimidating for my older son whose first such conference included my son, me, and his seven teachers. I think it would be overwhelming for anyone to face this many people.
Although most of the discussion was positive, there were some disruptive behavior patterns starting to emerge and together we worked on a solution. Had my son not been present would the outcome have been the same? Or would I have come home from such a conference and had a conversation that went something like this?
“Jake, I met with your teachers today?”
“What?”
“I said, I met with your teachers today.”
“Huh?”
“Take the earplugs out of your ears, turn off the IPod and look at me.”
Two separate press conferences will be held today. The first will come from the UFC at 4 pm. Eastern. This will be a media conference call and the information will likely hit blogs and news pages this evening around 6-7 pm. I would keep an eye on Bloodyelbow.com for a recap of the call. The expected topics are a new television deal, Couture, Wandi vs Liddell, and Brock Lesner. The second press conference will come from Randy Couture at 4:3o pm Eastern. It will be broadcast via live stream by ProElite.com directly from the X-Treme Couture gym in Vegas. Randy is expected of course to discuss and answer questions about his "resignation" and all of the details surrounding his current status. He will also likely voice his opinions about the current state of affairs with the UFC and MMA in general. You wanna make a bet....
There are few things worse than freezing up when someone asks “so, do you have any questions?” Instead of scrambling to come up with a question off the top of your head, bring your own list of questions. Not sure what to ask? Take a look at the suggested questions below and adjust the list to apply to your child. Remember, this is your chance to get the information you need to help your child be successful (but keep in mind that there will be a long line of parents waiting to do the same thing – so it’s important that you’re prepared and succinct with your questions!).
Is my child’s development on track for his age and the rest of your class?
Are there activities or games we can do at home to reinforce the skills that you’re working on in the classroom?
What are my child’s academic strengths?
In what areas can my child improve? Can you suggest ways to work on these areas?
What is my child like in class? (good behavior? bad behavior? class clown?)

Whether you’ve been to more parent teacher conferences than you care to count or this will be your first one, the most important thing is to BE PREPARED! You have a limited amount of time. And you probably have a lot you’d like to discuss. To make the most of your twenty minutes, arrive with a plan (you’ll be head of the class!).
Choose a convenient time: If you have a partner, try to arrange a time that fits both schedules. This will illustrate, to your child’s teacher, that you’re both involved in your child’s education. It will also give you an opportunity to discuss the meeting and make sure that you both heard the same things – and then you can plan a way forward together.
Check in with your child: Before the conference, talk to your child about how things are going. Check to see if there are any issues or questions your child would like you to address.
Jot down the questions: Write down your questions and/or discussion topics ahead of time. If you have specific con

I am an animal lover, and a peripheral member of PETA, as many may have figured out from a couple of the ads on this blog.Up to now, out of disgust, I have refrained from commenting on Michael Vick. But today there is such a contrast between two press conferences I have to show it.This was Michael Vick after he plead guilty yesterday:Compare this to Senator Larry Craig today in his conference in Boise. I can not embed it—the only place I know it is posted at this time is on CNN at this place.I am going by feelings, but feel Mr. Vick is truly on the way to facing the truth. I don't know if he will really change, but he has made a heck of a start. At this point Senator Craig is just an ass.I hope both of them can find serenity. But at this time Michael Vick is a lot further along the road.
A major commitment of this blog is toward the environment.
Meetings and events are not among the major causes of the environmental crisis we're living in (or is it?). Nonetheless the right attitude toward the environment is that every small contribution counts.
Moreover meetings have a strong communication impact on attendees, therefore embracing a green policy in a conference might have a

OK, we hijacked Chad’s productivity post so I thought it “productive” and respectful to continue this conversation on it’s own turf.
The thoughts of course are all around conferences, get-togethers and other “hoorah” sessions. I think these are important events on the pastor / leader’s schedule as it may be the only time you really get to sit down and be a spiritual sponge.
I’ll paste the last few comments from the other post into this one, but I’d love to continue to hear the good, the bad and the ugly from experience as to what conferences and get-togethers you guys find helpful, encouraging or just a waste of time. Also, maybe throw out some websites, books, etc. that might tie into this “theme” or topic.

Not sure why Jason Smith is smiling here. He moved from one shit hole to another...(I kid). Smith and Lupul for Sanderson and Pitkanen...I still don't like that deal. Well, I like the thought of the Oilers plummeting down the standings....Smith is a Flyers-type of player though.Ooo, look at Jason Blake posing in front of a collage of Leaf greats. Toronto sure has a grandiose way of introducing players. Too bad that doesn't translate into playoff success.Gagne-Briere-Knuble...yeah, I'd go with that line. You could call it the Canadian Red Cross Line, since all 3 have had several issues with injuries. Or maybe even the 2 Frenchies and 1 Mike K Line (in tribute to the Beastie Boys' 3 MC's and 1 DJ).Don't mind me, I have had too much heat here today. However, with one foul swoop, the Flyers look to be out of the NHL basement and perhaps back into the playoffs.More images at Yahoo Sports.T Tags: pictures Jason+Smith Daniel+Briere Jason+Blake Press+Conferences

Microsoft eyes future of teleconferencing with RoundTable, a product that is scheduled to debut by mid-2007. RoundTable is a table-top device, not much bigger than a traditional speaker phone at the base. It can be connected to a standard PC to offer synchronized voice and video conferencing. The device creates a 360-degree, panoramic video of side-by-side images of everyone who is taking part in the conference. It tracks the flow of the conversation, so the image and voice of the person who is speaking are spotlighted. People across many locations can attend meetings together virtually. The product which was termed as RingCam would be in market for around $3000The product is ideal for the two types of conferenced business meetings. First, there’s the meeting with two groups of people in two different conference rooms in different locations. If there’s a RoundTable in each room, the devices will capture a 360-degree view of each, and meld together images of each person on the monit

EVERY evening this week I am attending a conference in South America. Yes, through the wonder of the Internet, I am able to work during the day and then from 17:00 to 01:00 I am attending live conference sessions and interacting with other delegates at the EduOnline2007 Conference.
This is the second online conference that I have attended and the previous one was about a year ago. Things have changed quite a bit. The quality of the audio and video has increased unbelievably. This has all happened not only because of the improvement of the infrastructure of the Internet worldwide, but also the software and compression techniques used to manage the delegates and their connections to the main venue.
When I was first invited to attend this conference I was worried about the bandwidth that would be used each day as it is quite a few hours that I will be receiving audio and video over the Internet.
The reality, however, is that the bandwidth usage was very low. How they manage it will be a
