Yesterday, we heard about Opera launching an anti-trust complaint against Microsoft over Internet Explorer. The complaint, field in the EU, asserts that Microsoft should be forced to unbundle IE from Windows or include an alternative browser by default. Microsoft is quickly moving to strike back, saying that they will never willingly strip IE from Windows. And, you can hardly blame them. They have worked very hard over the years to get people addicted to it. On top of that, while some browsers such as Firefox have been able to trounce on IE and swallow a lot of marketshare, it still remains the number one browser. They also claim it is an integral part of the OS, and that people are already free to choose alternatives if they wish.Both sides make good points, though this is not the first time Microsoft has been fingered as a monopoly largely due to IE integration. This might prove to be an interesting battle.

I've been wondering how long it would be until someone started to complain that Right Said Fred Thompson seems to be pushing his non-candidacy a bit beyond the reasonable "exploration" one would expect that status to be for. He has raised a significant amount of money and has apparently gathered a significant amount of support for his candidacy. He calls Christians to task for co-opting pop culture instead of creating a culturally diverse subculture. I was listening to Dick’s Podcast and he said something I liked: If christianity had to make a subculture, why did it make it such a boring one. His main point, I think, is that Pop-Christianity just steals what it sees going on in the world around it. The mega churches and even the mini churches try to create a setting that reflects pop culture. Everything from sermon series, skits, worship songs, artwork. In a move that brings some quick relief to the Bengals and linebacker Odell Thurman, the two men that accused him of kicking them and hitting them last week at a party have dropped their complaint.  The two Georgia men had stated that Thurman assaulated them early Sunday after an argument and a home.  They even stated that Thurman’s brother - Willie, threatened them with a gun. There was talk that the two men were simply out for money, but that was never determined.  As for dropping their complaint, the deputy clerk of Magistrate Court in Jasper County did not know why the two men are not going forward against Thurman. If the two men were out for cash, they went after a player with already enough problems against him.  Thurman was suspended by the league last year for skipping a drug test.  He then was suspended for the year after his arrest on a drunken driving charge.  He is scheduled to apply for reinstatement on Monday with the NFL. A CBS undercover reporting team went into 38 police stations in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties in Florida, asking for a set of forms they could use to complain about inappropriate police behavior.
