I’m mixing my movie metaphors, I’m afraid. The headline is a reference to Dr. Strangelove, but an article in today’s New York Times is more reminiscent of The Manchurian Candidate.
Well, part of it, anyway.
The part where the Chinese commandant brainwashes Americans such as Laurence Harvey (never mind that accent) and Frank Sinatra.
I don’t know if Richard Condon had seen the article title

Have you ever wondered why communist countries failed, or, at least, have had serious trouble making ends meet (with an exception of China1)? Some will say it's due to the brilliant policies of the Saint Reagan, others will expound the inner evilness of totalitarian regimes. But the truth is much more prosaic: in communism there is no direct incentive to care. To care about anything, but most of a
I love vodka. Kettle One rocks all night long and I am a happy man. This ad though may make me hop to the other side of the bar and become a bar tended. Apparently you can do stand there doing something that a 13 year old would find humorous, and chicks are into it. If nothing else, I am switching over to a new vodka. Commies for life!
The Observer has a good article on how Chinese bloggers have launched a campaign against Mianyang Communist Party chief Tan Li for alleged disrespect and negligence, including claims he has been smiling after the disaster.Refugees in Mianyang are texting each other with a short message that changes a popular song to attack Tan. (Clearwisdom.net) Disasters happening on Chinese soil have brought great suffering and pain to the Chinese people, but each time the Chinese Communist Party has turned the people’s mourning into a celebration of the CCP through its propaganda. Each time the people endure suffering, the Party uses the opportunity to enhance its false image [...]
Was Richard Wright's Native Son a story about his views towards Capitalism and Communism ? Did Richard Wright want to show the good and bad points towards Capitalism and Communism ? Or was this novel just about how a young man went through life and how society made him. Richard Wright's Native Son shows that he used the Dalton's, Thomas's, and Jan Erlone to represent Capitalism and Communism. After

“Communism is definitely the best political system, ever”, my PRC senior once told me, “you know, I’m like envisioning a world where all countries in the world would unite under a single leadership of communism” “But that’s impossible”, I retorted. “Not for now, lah. Perhaps year 2500, or year 3000…” “But why do you PRC people endorse communism that much, huh?” “We

I am a sucker for stories about Americans who find themselves on the wrong side of armed geopolitical disputes. I still maintain that the most fascinating saga to come out of 9/11 was John Walker Lindh, the young California drifter who found himself in Afghanistan, fighting for the Taliban, circa 2001. In the end, Lindh received a humanitarian gesture from the U.S. Department of Justice - a 20 year sentence. It could have been far, far worse. When he is released, John will be younger than I am now....(read more)
~Snooper~As we all know and have known for quite some time, Barack and his ilk hide behind the United States Constitution as they play the weaklings and the emotionally unbalanced. Newsbusters brings us this:The list of Barack Obama associates that hold views that clash with mainstream America is getting longer every day and now we can add another notch in the "anti-American" column of Obama campaign workers and supporters. This time we find that the Obama campaign's official blogger, Sam Graham-Felsen, has spent time in France participating in labor riots, has written for a socialist magazine, hung a communist flag in his home, and was a fan of Marx while at Harvard. Israel will not cooperate with the head of a UN body surveying Palestinian damages resulting from the West Bank security barrier, an official in the Israeli Mission to the UN said Monday.

The downfall of the Soviet Union ushered in a period in which Russia was regarded as a nation in need of America’s help in order to enter the world of democracy. America’s leaders ignored the era of kleptomania in which wealthy men stole Russia’s natural resources and the lives of ordinary people suffered under inflation [...]
I once had an older friend that always referred to Democrats as "Communists"-sometimes with a four letter word before the title. I can't help but wonder what he would think about Sen. Alan Lowenthal of California.Lowenthal, a state senator, is seeking to dismantle Cold War-era laws aimed at penalizing individuals who join the Communist Party. His proposed legislation goes before the Senate Education Committee on Wednesday and it would repeal statutes that allow teachers and other public employees to be fired from their jobs if they are communists. He called the provisions "outdated" and "unconstitutional." "Being a member of the Communist Party in and of itself does not mean you advocate the overthrow of the government. It doesn’t mean we agree with them, but they’re not a threat to

Of course, this hasn’t received any mainstream media attention whatsoever.

In Hanoi, Bui Vu Thi has a new apartment in a good neighborhood with two bedrooms, one bath and a great view of the lake. She bought it three years ago, before it was even built. The next time smart German Europeans bring to your attention just how ignorant you as an American are, and they will (and you are), just remind yourself where this less than well-intended instruction is coming from. It’s been a full eighteen years after the German unification, or reunification if you prefer, and a survey taken about German history indicates that when it comes to the post-Berlin Wall generation (primarily in the East), for instance, they don’t know diddley squat about their own recent past. So you can imagine what they know about ours.
Students asked about the GDR have only a vague idea at best about the communist dictatorship their parents grew up in. Some of the gems that came out in the study: Only about one third asked knew that the GDR constructed the wall that separated the two Germanys, only half asked thought it was a dictatorship at all, the Stasi was an “intelligence service just like every other country has”, and only 17 percent of those questioned
Hollywood liberals often spout that George Bush a Fascist. According to the Left, George Bush is taking away our liberties by listening to phone conversations from foreign suspected terrorists, or by denying trials for militants pulled off the battlefield in Afghanistan. Nevertheless, these “Glittering Gems of Colossal Ignorance” fawn over tyrants like Hugo Chavez.Hugo Chavez, the champion of the ignorant limousine liberals, has decided to employ security forces to detain citizens without charge during political “emergencies” or major natural disasters. Yes, that is right; after taking control over virtually all media in Venezuela, now Hugo Chavez wants to throw people in jail for dissent. When a massacre takes place in Venezuela in the next decade, just wait for Hollywood to apologize on behalf of Hugo Chavez for, “Just trying to help the poor.”My predictions are not unfounded either. Communist Cuba executed or detained the greatest percentage of its population, in th
[Editor’s Note: I’ve never traveled to North Korea, but dearly wish to do so. As an American, the likelihood is slim, alas. I envy PRC Chinese who, following the footsteps of the presumably still incarcerated Yang Bin — the ex-flower magnate, embezzler and bankrupt of Shenyang who had planned to corner the cross border trade — flit over to Shinuiju to gamble on the crap tables installed by Stanley Ho of Macao casino fame and fortune.
I long, redheaded, white-skinned Chinese speaker that I am, to turn the heads and fix the eyes of those North Koreans who’ve never seen a Westerner, as I did with PRC Chinese in the early 1980s. In essence, to turn back the calendar by thirty years and re-visit ancient Asian “communism,” still on display in its only remnant, the death defying holdout. I wonder how I would apprehend it this time around. Most likely with the same desperate sadness I did then, but who knows?
I find any first-hand account of N
Why is it that history has a unique way of turning atrocities into admiration? Take a walk though any mall in urban America and you will be amazed; there is Che merchandise everywhere: t-shirts, caps, Key chains and mugs. His image is freakin’ trademarked for God’s sake and someone is making a ton of money. The one-time king of communism is now the ultimate capitalist. And the ironic thing about is that most people who wear his paraphernalia have no idea of who this man really was.
And speaking of capitalism, who better than the Hollywood left to swoop in and milk Che for all the cash they can get. Rumor has it that a new Che movie is currently in production; but no word yet if the proceeds of the ticket sales are going to be given to the poor in Cuba. After all, those rich Hollywood left-wing types wouldn’t want to benefit from backs of the working class, now would they.
Now the funny thing is this; the man who often quotes Che in the newspapers, Fidel Castro and basical

The communist era is heavily commemorated in Berlin, with memorials, museums, special tours and more, scattered all over the city. We have already mentioned and elaborated about the Berlin Wall, and mentioned the sweet and sour issue of German Unification, but there still remains a lot to be said.
Communism is a religion, albeit without the supernatural element (instead you worship the State and the Great Leader), everyone knows that. Which is why the attitude towards sex in totalitarian communist states is so predictable. In China, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has banned ads for push-up bras, figure-enhancing underwear, and sex toys, since these things constitute "social pollution" (as distinct from the mind pollution caused by communism itself):
"Illegal 'sexual medication' advertisements and other harmful ads pose a grave threat to society," said the SARFT notice, issued in the past week and posted on the administration's Web site.
"They not only seriously mislead consumers, harm the people's health, pollute the social environment, and corrupt social mores, but also directly harm the credibility of public broadcasting and affect the image of the Communist Party and the government," the notice said.
China has already also issued strict rules for

Not a day goes by where we are not told by celebrity idiots that our reputation around the world is dwindling. Cameron Diaz is an example of why we should not take the Hollywood left seriously. Recently, while visiting the Inca city of Machu Picchu of Peru, Diaz wore over her shoulder an olive green messenger bag inscribed with a red star and the words "Serve the People" printed in Chinese on the flap. This was Mao Zedong’s most famous political slogan. Perhaps someone should have explained to Diaz that Communist apparel is only cool on American college campuses. Apparently, the Peruvian people did not appreciate celebrating an insurgency that killed 70,000 people through assassinations and kidnappings in their Country. Even with Communisms deplorable track record, ignorant left-wing sycophants cannot seem to get enough of tyrants like Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, and Che Guevara. However, it is comical the rude awakening liberals in this Country experience when th
The four clocks behind the reception desk of Berlin’s new budget hotel Ostel show the hour in Moscow, Berlin, Havana, and Beijing. Time, however, appears to have stopped here sometime before 1989, when communism was still entrenched in all four capitals.

Just asking? Do they see non-English speaking Hispanics as a vital constituency? If they don't speak English, they're from another country. Why would you want to take people who just came to the United States, and teach them to hate the country? Oh, I get it... Does this make you want to take in more immigrants or less?
Here's the story.
An animated anti-communist film produced by the US in 1948, this is funny stuff and the quality of the animation considering it was produced by a collge is absolutly awesome.
The Manifesto of the Communist Party, usually referred to as The Communist Manifesto, was first published on February 21, 1848, and is one of the world’s most influential political tracts.
HAVANA -- One of the most-visible faces of Cuba's caretaker government urged the island's young people Wednesday to ignore capitalism's ''siren song,'' while acknowledging that the country's current communist system was not as ''ideal'' as had been desired.Marking the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Youth Union, Vice President and Cabinet Secretary Carlos Lage said the revolution that Fidel Castro led by toppling dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959 will have to live on in a generation that may be unsure of what it is rebeling against.''We always knew the biggest challenge of socialism is to instill in young people a communist conscience and rejection of capitalism, without having lived in it, without having seen the moral damage it produces,'' Lage said, addressing a packed house at Havana's Karl Marx Theater.Part of the union's job now, he said, is to help make young people ``immune to the siren song of capitalism.''Lage is a key member of the prov
Goofy Boy was very excited as we drove to the grocery store. He had $3 burning a hole in his pocket, and he was ready to spend. On the way I heard him ask "Who do you think you're lookin' at?". As he was the only one in the back seat I was a little concerned. "Who are you talking to?"
"Oh, just George Washington. He keeps staring at me."
Now Sporty Boy is incensed. "You can't talk about
"...the students had been building an elaborate "Legotown," but it was accidentally demolished. The teachers decided its destruction was an opportunity to explore "the inequities of private ownership." According to the teachers, "Our intention was to promote a contrasting set of values: collectivity, collaboration, resource-sharing, and full democratic participation."The article outlines some of the points the teachers discussed with students:"A house is good because it is a community house.""We should have equal houses. They should be standard sizes.""It's important to have the same amount of power as other people over your building."One of the key elements of communism was that no one can be better than anybody else. This is what happens in blue states folks. And it's leftists that poison your kids with this crap.

Displaying a broad range of Golden Age Hollywood animation, Manifestoon is a homage to the latent subversiveness of cartoons. Though U.S. cartoons are usually thought of as conveyors of capitalist ideologies of consumerism and individualism, Drew observes: “Somehow as an avid childhood fan of cartoons, these ideas were secondary to a more important lesson—that of the ‘trickster’ nature of many characters as they mocked, outwitted and defeated their more powerful adversaries. In the classic cartoon, brute strength and heavy artillery are no match for wit and humor, and justice always prevails. For me, it was natural to link my own childhood concept of subversion with an established, more articulate version [Marx and Engels’ Communist Manifesto]. Mickey running over the globe has new meaning in today’s mediascape, in which Disney controls one of the largest concentrations of media ownership in the world.”

Oxford has thown up some great bands in it's time but I think it's fair to say that Meanwhile Back In Communist Russia must go down as one of the best, and strangest. They were one of those bands which just oozes creativity and although they were never really likely to be appreciated on a mass basis they carried on doing their own thing in their own way which surely is what it's all about. The band released their debut album "Indian Ink" through Jitter Records in 2001. Eight tracks of loops and guitar distortion with Emily Gray delivering her monologues in typical deadpan fashion. A second album "My Elixir ; My Poison" was released in 2003 through Truck Records. In 2004 the band split up following the departure of Emily Gray. James Shames and Tim Croston went on to form a band called Mesaplex whose music I must confess I've never heard.Meanwhile Back In Communist Russia recorded two Peel Sessions, both of which can be found below and also had a live performence at Birmingham Acad
Well shucks. It just gets better and better. I can't seem to stay on my projected course for this blog. Stuff keeps happening that I feel compelled to comment on.Mr Bush once again defies labeling. It should be obvious he is Republican, he supports big business interests over the welfare of the citizenry. But he ignores the immigration problems in the hopes of currying favor with the largely Democratic Hispanic voter block. Of course big business also likes the cheap labor pool. And then there is the third possibility. He seeks another example of redistribution of wealth, much as any good socialist or even communist would do. Case in point:Mr Bush, in his compassion for the poor, would have everyone who has company provided health insurance taxed to pay for insurance for those who do not have such. If your health care benefit exceeds 15,000 dollars a year (for a family), or 7,500 dollars (for an individual), you would be taxed (as regular income) on the surplus. This new tax money wou
The People's Weekly World is "partisan to the working class, racially and nationally oppressed peoples, women, youth, seniors, international solidarity, Marxism and socialism" and "enjoys a special relationship with the Communist Party USA, founded in 1919, and publish its news and views." Right, so, the paper says "many thousands" of UAW workers don't believe the numbers being touted by the automakers to justify labor concessions. Citing GM's plan to invest $6m into Daewoo and Ford spending over a billion dollars on a plant in Eastern Europe, they're certain the companies are much better off financially than they let on. They're particularly suspicious of GM, claiming "during contract negotiations it is likely it will hide more than half its profits." Admitting they don't know what's going on in the negotiations, they feel "the union can be expected to raise both the issue of concealed corporate profits and the issue o
OK, OK, enough with the Yakov Smirnov references. China is no more communist than, say, California. And its vehicle sales prove it. With already-strong demand for passenger vehicles growing by 15 percent this year, Xinhua reports that Chinese automakers are set to sell 10m cars during 2008. According to information from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), the demand is partl
