I was debating negotiation of commissions with a fellow agent. Their view was to always ask for 6% commission and if they we’re having trouble closing the deal, to let themselves be negotiated down as low as 5%. My view is that I don’t negotiate my commission. I have both a 5% option and a 6% option a client can choose from, but those plans are fixed. I suspect more often than not some extremely pleasant clients who bend over backwards to get their home market ready just agree to 6% because they are, well, so agreeable. I also suspect that more often than not some less pleasant clients who make life difficult and drag the chain in terms of getting the house ready etc are the ones who demand 5%.
