Comment Spam - how to recognise it and what to do with it
Techies are my way of highlighting matters which are about the more technical aspects of blogging. This post is about comment spam. It appears I'm currently not alone in being the target of a few flurries of comment spam by online greeting card firms and others who currently risk having their firms disappear altogether from the Internet due to their activity. What is comment spam? Comment

Comment spam becoming an increasing problem for the Scientechie
As with all growing blogs, Scientechie is beginning to face the problems that come along with being a popular blog. As the number of readers increases, and the exposure on search engines increases, so does the number of spammers who find this blog. I would hate to enable pre-posting comment moderation. Thus, I will, as of [...]

Comment SPAM: You Are an Idiot if You (or Someone You Hired) Do It
My blog is set up so that I have to approve comments. And like everyone else in the world, I HATE SPAM. So imagine how happy I was to get the following comment on my last blog post which was about copy writing from "Justin_AKL". According to Justin's profile, he's a programmer. I can tell from Justin’s comment that he is trying to get his site (or his client’s site, or the site he’s an affil

Game|Housekeeping: A Note On Comment Spam - SendMeRSS
Game|Housekeeping: A Note On Comment SpamWe understand that our comment spam filters have been beefed up, in order to keep out all the junk comments and garbage that we've been having as we get more popular and thus more enticing to griefers. Problem is, as these things often do, the spam filters are now also keeping out a lot of legitimate comments. We're working to fix the problem. In the meantime, if you've found any ways to keep your comments from being marked as spam, please comment below and hope that they do not get marked as spam. Thank you! Don't Expect And Real Value From Blog Comment Spam

Comment Spam is the Voldemort of SEO
If you follow Harry Potter at all, you know that Voldemort is "He Who Must Not Be Named". He is the evil villain, and speaking about him gives him power. That is how I feel about comment spam. There are many in SEO who see this as a viable way to increase links to your site, and some very popular SEO blogs promote it, as well. This is upsetting for me on many counts - both my SEO and my blogging sensibilities are offended by this.Does comment spam really help your search engine ranking? While Google uses the nofollow tags, Yahoo! and MSN do not. This means that these are considered to be viable links in these search engines, and while these two search engines are not near as popular as Google, and sometimes the butt of jokes by people "in-the-know", some still use them, especially people who are not "in-the-know". And many blogs do not utilize the nofollow tags in their comments, and more so now since the U Comment - I Follow movement gains the support of bloggers. This, meant to promote

Official Google Blog: Preventing comment spamComment Spam on Six ApartSo I am reading about comment spam and blog spam and what not, because I have been leaving comments on other blogs, and I have been, in some cases, leaving links to to my site. But I wanted to know if what I was doing was considered comment spam. But I don't think it is because I only comment on stuff that interests me and the comment is appropriate to the post I am commenting on. So I figure it is okay. I have actually gotten into a few dialogues with some bloggers, which has been funny and sometimes enlightening.

      Comment Spam numbers drop
Well, at least for this blog. I recently mentioned how this blog was getting in excess of 1000 pieces of comment spam a day. Thankfully that appears to have dropped off over the past 4 or 5 days and O’Flaherty is now getting between 300 and 400 comment spam’s a day. Did the spammers take Easter off? Have they lost interest in this blog considering none of their spam’s get through? Is it simply a lull in the storm? Has anybody else noticed a decline in comment spam levels recently? blogging, blogs, comment spam, internet, spam This post originally appeared on Paul OFlahertys Technology Blog. © 2007 Paul OFlaherty Link to original post: Comment Spam numbers drop | 2 comments

So I went looking and found the plugin: Peter’s Custom Anti-Spam It’s a fun & customizable anti-spam plugin… you get to choose your own words! The uniqueness of my plugin is two-fold: 1) It does not discrimate against users who have cookies disabled. 2) You can pick your own fun random words to display.
