Fran Dunphy's squad might not have headed into the Golden State looking for riches, but at least a victory. For the second time in this young season, the temple Owls have dropped two games in a row. Last year's Atlantic 10 Champions are now at a record of 5-5; one that does not sit well with the gans or team. For the 2nd consecutive game, Temple has made costly mistakes that potentially cost them
While I’ve been out prepping for some weddings and several engagement sessions (i.e. buy new equipment!), my dog broke through the mesh frame of the restroom and had his way with my bedroom. When you listen to an album, sometimes the words sound great, but the artist just lacks the conviction or experience to make it sound heart-genuine. Not so with Jeromy & Jennifer’s new album, Coming Home. And it’s not just an album. It’s a journey. A journey from suffering to faith. From intense questioning to endurance and [...]

“Coming home to your shelter, coming home where I stand. I go down in the water, and I won’t turn away.” Take a bit of Saint James Infirmary, add a perfect voice, and a well-tempered percussion player and life is sweet so sweet. “You may not understand me, but I hear you so well. You’re a voice comes in the cold wind, a tune I know so well. I can see you through any darkness, you’re a light that leads me home.” Whichever plane you decide to listen to this song, physical or spiritual, it’s a beautiful performance. I enjoyed my weekend trip to Houston for a friend's wedding. I went alone. Because it was a bit cheaper, I chose to take a connecting flight out of a nearby smaller airport, at which it is also easier to park and drive. I just considered it part of my trip.
It was hot when I got off the commuter flight to Newark. I don't know what the temperature was outside--probably an above-average 70
Good news from yesterday evening - it looks like Grandad might be coming home from hospital today! My brother is down for the weekend so I picked him up from the station and went along to see Grandad in hospital with Mum and Grandma. I ended up taking Grandma home after an hour and waiting with her until Mum and bro came back because she was getting tired so she slept on the sofa for an hour and went to bed shortly after Mum got home. Anyway, I arrived at the hospital first so sat and had a chat with Grandad, and he said that one of the ward sisters had told him he was coming home today. This was news to Mum as well. It will be in the evening, and it's probably a good thing that my uncle and aunt are coming down at the weekend because Grandma immediately started worrying about what wa
Finally settled for a while. We escaped from the mould ridden flat, left the noisy dusty streets of Bristol and changed our view, from this…which was fairly impressive but I really couldn’t risk any more mould inhalation, to this…we are living in a caravan (quite a big one) on a farm on the Lizard down in Cornwall. It is clean, dry, cosy, and lovely. I can see the stars at night, hear the birds in the morning and smell good fresh country smells…bliss. So I am settling in and hopefully beginning to paint like I used to. I actually feel as if I have come home, my wings are unfurling and I feel great. It will be a little while until everything is really decided, Bristol or Cornwall but while the fates toy with us this is where we will be hanging out…here is a sketch from lunchtime i

You can eat any cuisine in the world, you can travel the globe, you can eat out for days on end - but there is nothing quite like the feeling of coming back home!! Of course, coming home means different things to different people. But in my parents home - it had one simple meaning: "Ghar ka Khana" or simple food cooked at home.I remember as a child we would go for our annual trek in the Himalayas, or on summer vacations across the country only to return home to the deliciously heart-warming dal-chawal. Now you can guess that dal on the occasion meant the humble arhar dal or toor dal, served hot with basmati chawal, and methi-aloo bhaji. Over the years this has become my most abiding memory of coming home. Now when ever we travel, the first meal on our return echos that memory. In fact, this

Since I’m a med student from some med school in the Philippines, I’m constantly pestered with questions regarding why I continue to compete as a debater and remain active in the collegiate debating scene. Some of them even go as far as asking why I didn’t pursue law instead. I just usually smile, chuckle a bit and say that I didn’t take up law because I want to help people. Of course, that would be my queue to leave the room.
I left debating in 2005. After three years of competing for UP Manila, it felt like debate has become so humdrum that it started to lose meaning. Debating is a personal challenge that a debater puts upon himself. He puts himself in a situation wherein he has to come up with very convincing cases in fifteen minutes on topics that he may have a) no idea whatsoever or b) a totally opposite take on. Of course, the risk for humiliation is also there. That might be a deal breaker for most
The veil of objective journalism having been lifted long ago, reporters are often as guilty of reporting their hopes as they are the facts about an issue. As much may explain some of the coverage that has been seen as of late regarding the strained relationship between evangelicals and the Republican Party. What was a rumbling in the distance prior to the mid-term elections (as evidenced by a 2006 Washington Monthly story) has become a steady drumbeat as various media outlets have openly questioned the stability of the alliances between the religious Right and the GOP.MSM coverage of the situation has careened between two narratives, one reflecting the external tensions between religion and politics, and the other examining the internal tensions between factions within evangelicalism. The former was exemplified by a recent Washington Post story concerning the disaffection of religious leaders with the GOP presidential candidates. "At the moment, there's nothing but confusion every p
Karen’s away right now, on business. She left yesterday, and life just isn’t the same without her.
I’m always sad when she goes. I know, this time anyway, it’s only for a couple of nights, but that doesn’t seem to matter much. The missing her is the same…. strong. Intense. Things just aren’t quite right when we’re away from each other.
I never thought I’d be a person who counted on someone so much, or felt so connected to someone, as I do with her. It’s strange and incredible. I quite like it actually. And for a person who’s been pretty independent, depending on someone, well that’s an unusual thing.
Thinking about her, about us, makes me consider the nature of relationships, or at least of my view of them. What does it mean… to be in a relationship, to be a couple… connected.
I guess, for me, it means thinking of that other person before yourself, wanting to make sure they are OK, or happy,
Looks like Lily will be coming home tomorrow after her MRI in the morning. I've missed her smiling little face around here and so have the kids. Brianna has been lost without her. The boys probation officer checked in on them today. This one has been newly assigned and appears to truly want to see them get help. We seem to all be in agreement that the boys have really poor self esteem and cover it with bravado and illegal activities to gain attention from their peers and at the same time puff themselves up to look big and bad to fend off others who really are big and bad.Our days are getting busier and busier here now that our home education program is in full swing. The kids have come up with some great lists of individual academic goals for the year. Hopefully they will be able to accomplish them all. We are also overly scheduled with various Dr. appointments and therapy appointments for September. I definitely need more hours in my day and more days in my month.
I now have a plane ticket home to the US - Mia and I will be flying into Jacksonville at 5:30pm on September 6th! Northwest's weight limit for carry-on pets is 15lbs for pet and carrier combined; Miss Lard Butt Mia is hovering just under the limit. I've decided to curb her food intake a little (no more endlessly refilling food bowl... at least not until September 7th), and have borrowed Gwen's scale in order to keep tabs on her weight:Mia, curled up on the scale.
Today we got word from the hospital that they are going to be releasing Stephen. He is in no way well yet but good enough to finally come home and receive his IV therapy at home. This systemic yeast infection can take months to clear up especially in the blood . We also just learned he has kidney stones. This poor little guy really needs to be home. He just seems to get one thing after the other in the hospital. Part of his IV therapy is also for blood thinners as that blood clot in his leg still has not resolved. I just updated my profile listed on the side bar column on this blog. Thanks to one of my astute blog readers who noticed I had not updated the number of children with all the new recent placements. Kids spent the day swimming at the lake today. They can't wait till school starts and all the tourists go home so that they can once again have the beach to themselves. Not too much else going on here. The baby takes up most of my time. He really is becoming qu
Coming home from the hospital on Thursday was a massive event for us. Finally the pregnancy is over no more wondering when he was going to pop his head out. And the horrors of the labour and birth were behind us too. We just wanted to get home and get on with our new life.
It’s to be lovely: an adorable baby sleeping peacefully, a doting dog at his master’s feet, our beautiful house transformed into a wonderful home.
5 minutes after we got home though, the adrenalin that had been getting us through the previous few days finally gave way to tiredness and we realised: this is it from now on.
And the baby started to cry and the dog ate my slippers then pissed on the floor.
This is it from now on…
Coming Home - My family and I had occasion to visit Royal, IL this weekend as part of a celebration of sorts. Since the time of its settling by Ostfriesian Germans some 150 years ago, Royal has had the distinction of being an agricultural community, and is presently part of the Midwest's corn and soybean belt. Corn prices being what they are, business is brisk and farmers are very busy; fortunately they take time to commemorate special events. As longtime readers of my scribbling will recall, my father-in-law is an ordained clergyman in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. As part of a 125th Anniversary celebration, he was invited to deliver the weekend's homily for St. John Lutheran Church, where he served as pastor 30 years earlier. As he eagerly accepted the invitation, he asked my wife and I to join him and my mother-in-law for the trip.In the weeks prior, my mother-in-law sought to prepare me for our visit; she recalled to her dismay that her first time in Royal was not a

Coming home from work last night I saw a raccoon on Ocean Parkway between church and caton. It was on the lawn of one the buildings. It was squeezing through a gate when I first saw it and I thought 'man that's a chubby cat'. Then it started walking on the grass, it was 3 in the morning and I was tired so at first I thought it was a skunk cause the dark eye area of the raccoon was throwing me off while I was trying to recognize which cat around the building this was. It took about 2 seconds to realize this was actually a raccoon. The raccoon walked the building lawn and then climbed the tree.I blame the kensington hipsters for attracting raccoons.
Leaving home inevitably means you must return…someday.
After a 10 month long trip around the world, my wife and I are back in the United States. I can’t help wishing I was back in India. It happens when I’m watching commercials or stuck at traffic lights.
Sure, it’s nice to be home, but in the days and weeks since our return, I’ve felt like I’m waking from a really great dream. Except the alarm clock is blaring at me and I’ve got to go to work.
Except work isn’t that appealing anymore. It was nice quitting our jobs last year and telling ourselves we didn’t have to think about work (or more specifically, money) for a while, but those days are behind us.
Of course you can stay connected in your field while you’re on the road, but in my experience, if you travel for more than six months, it’s the people back home you have to worry about. They seem to treat you as if you’ve been on the moon.

On Monday I had a couple errands to run and couldn't get to them until just before the kids were due to start coming home. Not a big deal, as they are old enough that I don't have to be home to greet them (I just like to be there for them when they first get home from school). I set the home security system and left. I ran to the store to get the cat food we needed and then stopped the library
With the sub-prime meltdown now in full swing, federal regulators seem to be working feverishly to crank shut the recklessly spewing spigot of easy lending.A little late to the party maybe but at least its confirmation that something other than useless lip-service regarding “toxic” loans and “rate shock” needed to be paid to the situation.Of course, we did see the initial signs of official concern back in June of 2005 when former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan suggested that “the apparent froth in the housing markets may have spilled over into the mortgage markets” while raising concern about “exotic” mortgage products during his testimony to the Joint Economic committee. This was later followed by the drafting and subsequent finalization in September 2006 of the Federal Reserve’s “Interagency Guidance on Nontraditional Mortgage Product Risks”, a series of new regulatory guidelines that clearly had the effect of creating concern among some of the most aggr
The army says that Sean's unit is coming home- they are leaving on Nov. 10- so they say. I haven't talked to many people about it, and I haven't changed my plans for going to Washington DC to protest at the Pentagon on the 9th, meet with other military families on the 10th, put flags on the mall for every fallen solider on the 11th, and to come home to Montana on the 12th.
I don't talk about it, because I can't believe it. I am too afraid to believe that they will not turn him around, and keep him there. I am too afraid to believe that he will be ok- that he will not get hurt or die in the last week before he is to come home. I too am afraid to hope.
They don't really mean he can come home- they mean he can go to Texas- and while I grant that Texas is much better than Iraq, it is not home. He can not return to his life with me. Before he can come home to me, even on leave, he has to go to reintegration training.
They will tell him, "Don't beat your wife, don't kic

We don't claim that this article on the chihuahua is the best on the net but what we can assure you that you would find it difficult to find articles of the same quality on the net. So, go on and read it and find it for yourself.
You have purchased your Chihuahua puppy and now preparing to bring it home. You want your new family member to feel comfortable in its new home and you want your home to survive this new family member. How should you prepare?
First of all decide which part of your home will be off-limits. It will be better for your new Chihuahua to allow freer reign as he ages rather than to suddenly no longer allow him where he once could go.
Chihuahuas seem to like to perch on high places while surveying its surroundings. A Chihuahua can be severely injured jumping off high places. As a general rule if they can't jump up to a place by themselves, they shouldn't jump down from that place. You can make a ramp that leads to favorite lookouts or nesting spots.

We are so happy that he is coming home. They will take his picture tomorrow for their website. I will post the link when he is on it. Yesterday, they did alot of testing. He will need to have his monitors at home for awhile, as he has a little apnea. Tomorrow, Amber and Greg will having training for this. Also, they will spend tomorrow night at the hospital, to make sure they know how to respond when his monitor goes off..He does not have reflux, so that is one good thing. He is now at 4lbs and 10 ounces! He gains everyday. He is starting to fill out nicely now. Still little, but not like when he was born, or when he lost down to 3 lbs 13 ounces. He smiles at me! I think he likes his grammy! I cant wait to get my hands on this baby. He is going to be very spoiled I think. Dave and our grand daughter is out shopping right now. He will come home and tell me we are now broke. This little girl can spend money. Its very hard to not get her all that she wants. I LOVE GRAND KIDS!
Four days (incl. Sunday) until Jen comes home. I cannot wait. It has been close on 9 months that we have been doing long distance. I can confidently say that this has been one of the most difficult things that I have ever done. It is also easily one of the most rewarding. Knowing that in four days our nine months of patience and care will pay off with a feeling of euphoria and nirvana. What joy. Love is a fantastic fuck up! I love it.
New Found Glory released a new album "Coming Home". The American pop punk/melodic hardcore band is currently based from California. The band has already scheduled several tours, so you should watch out for it. You can visit the New Found Glory website at www.newfoundglory.com.Coming Home was produced by Thom "Da Nunz†Panunzio, who recorded Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Petty, and The Go-Go's and sold 38,845 copies in its first week. This mature album has slower and melodic songs. New Found Glory's fifth studio album, Coming Home debuted at #19 on the Billboard 200 chart with more than 30,000 copies sold.My honest reviews:"Oxygen" is about a hardly breathing state of being without the presence of a special person. The song begins with soft guitar riffs and well-controlled vocals until the song progresses. I like the constant second voice."Hold My Hand" is the most awesome song of New Found Glory inside this "Coming Home" album. I really love this song. The Hold My Hand intro is surprising
