I found this letter a few days ago on a blog as I was blogsurfing my workday away and remembered it as an e-mail I got a few years ago. As it is brilliant I blatantly copied it and now reprint it here on my blog.
John Cleese Letter to America
(’Notice of Revocation of Independence’)
Dear Citizens [...]
It’s about that time again, time to pick the new leader of the free world. Just for the sake of clarity I would prefer to label the new president of the United States as leader of the pseudo-free world and annihilator of the less fortunate, just because it sounds cooler, and let’s be honest, what true freedom exists in the States when I can’t even say Merry Christmas without offending a Jew or two and probably ending up in shackles. So it’s time for y’all to decide who is gonna make the rest of the world hate your guts for the next four years. For what some might consider one of the most important decisions of the year, the American public seem to treat elections ever so immaturely. When choosing one’s leader, one must account for the decisions the chosen individual might make u
Two weeks ago, I gave my opinion about the monster-SIV concept being floated around Wall Street. I said, “I don’t really understand how this super fund, being orchestrated by the Treasury and financed by a consortium of big banks, can possibly work. It sounds like the idea is to buy a ton of the illiquid [...]

On Friday night of last week, The UK had it’s traditional Comic Relief fundraising event. This is a way to raise money for needy people, especially in Africa, by making people laugh and bringing comedy in to what is essentially a sad and miserable situation. For those of you who saw it, here are some clips you may want to relive and laugh at again. For all those outside of the UK who may not have seen or ever heard of it, you might enjoy watching these highlights of the spectacular. Part 2 will be tomorrow so watch out for that.

flangracneig pgoramian There are two things that are not as exciting when you’re older as when you were little: Comic Relief and Christmas.
Yes, last night was Comic Relief, a bi-annual (someone will shout at me if it’s not the right word) event which have celebrities doing funny stuff for 7 hours in the name of raising money for some worthwhile causes. I’ve been a bit confused about whether I was sure I liked it or hated it. I wasn’t a big fan of Live 8 - thought the whole thing was just massaging Bono’s hypocritical ego. Lenny Henry just seems to be a lot more committed to the cause - he just doesn’t seem to do owt else.
In the same respect I do think they do it too often, and I believe in “charity begins at home”. I also believe there are too many charity drives, and I’m not sure how many of them are truly successful. You kind of get desensitized to them (that being said, as I write this, I saw a video for Malaria in Tanzania, an

With only 3 nights left to go I thought it was about time I mentioned Comic Relief Does Fame Academy. It's been thoroughly entertaining so far despite none of the contestants actually being able to sing at all. Last night saw one of my favourites kicked of the show. Children's TV presenter Angellica Bell lost out to Radio 1 gobshite Colin Murray. After a tie in the housemates vote, they had to return to the viewers vote to see who had to go.Anyway, I now call on each and every one of you to ensure that the legend that is TPT (Tara Palmer Tomkinson) wins the contest. She has imporved dramatically since the beginning and has kept me entertained in numerous ways. Seeing her breakdown on last nights show made me realise just how fragile an individual she is and how big a journey she has come on doing the show.Vote to save her and you'll be doing your bit for some of the poorest people in the UK and Africa - here's what you need to do:To save Tara, call 09011 32 30 09 or text TARA to 84

Jade Goody has been dropped from Comic Relief after the Big Brother race row. Jade was to appear in a spoof of a Question of Sport with Frank Skinner and Jack Dee. However, the organisers have decided to drop the sketch from the Red Nose Night charity telethon screened on March 16th.
A spokesman from Comic relief said, “The sketch felt out of date and they are concerned it could detract attention from the fundraising. Recent events have overtaken us and the show, which was recorded last November, now it feels out of date. Red Nose day is all about raising money and anything that could potentially detract from this is not helpful.”
Seems like Jade’s paying for her mistakes then! Though I don’t remember anyone getting treated this way when she was tagged a minger!
