Google and Virgin Group have just signed a deal in order to launch Virgle Inc., a joint venture supposed to help the two companies reach an incredible goal: establish and maintain human communities on Mars. According to a press release rolled out by Google, the Virgle plan starts with the Virgle Pioneer selection, expected to take place between 2008 and 2010, the first journey being scheduled for 2016. Sources inform that israel real estate developer American Colony Ltd. is set to float its European activity on London’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM) at the ambitious value of €400 million. UK investment bank Collins Stewart will be the lead underwriter for the issue.American Colony develops, builds, markets and manages residential property projects. It listed on the TASE last May, and currently has a market cap of just NIS 309 million. The company intends to float on AIM its wholly owned subsidiary Inter Colony Real Estate Development Ltd., which manages its property business in Hungary, Romania, and Cyprus. Inter Colony is building a total of 20,000 units, 3,000 of which are in the process of being sold.

Property investment company Colony Capital has become the top shareholder in soccer club Paris Saint-Germain, the former French champions who have fallen on hard times but still have attractive real estate assets.On Friday, Colony Capital said it would acquire a roughly 30 percent stake in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from private equity firm Butler Capital.Following the deal, Colony Capital will hold around 62.5 percent of PSG's capital. Scientists in central Vietnam have found a large colony of endangered grey-shanked doucs; the species of monkey are on the list of one of the 25 most endangered primates.
Scientists believe fewer than 1,000 such monkeys exist in five central provinces of Vietnam - Quang Nam, Kon Tum, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Gia Lai. They had previously seen only one other colony of more than 100 animals.
A Conservation International biologist says the finding, if put in a human perspective, is like discovering a new country with a billion residents.

In the past week I’ve received several links from friends about the missing bees. The media continues to report on current research into the cause of the disappearance of bees from their hives around the world. Taiwan just announced the loss of over 10 million bees. The other day The New York Times reviewed various theories. One involves radiation from cell phone towers, and rumors abound as one might expect; people are blaming everything from terrorism to a ‘bee rapture’. (BTW, did you know the military is testing the use of bees for sniffing out bombs?)
Yesterday a press release from the Army announced several pathogens had been found to be potential culprits. Some have found evidence of a fungus; in Hawaii, the news is centering on a harmful mite, and bee colonies are now quarantined to prevent its spread. In the 1970's Princeton physicist Gerard O'Neill with the help of NASA Ames Research Center and Stanford University showed that we can build giant orbiting spaceships and live in them. A couple of space colony summer studies were conducted at NASA Ames in the 1970s. Colonies housing about 10,000 people were designed. A number of artistic renderings of the concepts were made.
