High School Fashion vs. College Fashion

With many high school grads getting ready for college in the fall, I think it’s a question that lots of people are wondering about. So what is college fashion like in comparison to high school fashion? What do people wear [...]

      College Fashion Trend: Opaque Tights
Move over, leggings – this winter, there’s a hot new trend in legware that’s much more chic. If you can’t guess by the title of this article; I’m talking about opaque tights. We saw the look all over the runways, and now the opaque tights trend has finally hit the streets (not to mention all the college campuses.) They’re everywhere – paired with ankle boots, dresses, and even shorts. Opaque tights truly are this year’s leggings – a must-have trendy item that works in so many different outfits. The most popular tights are opaque black, but the look also works with bright colors from red to electric blue. Edie in her opaque tights. Why Tights RockLet me just take a second to say that I’m obsessed with this trend! Tights are a fab way to wear your fall dresses into winter (hello stretching the clothing budget), and a huge bonus - most are inexpensive! Also, I love the throwback to Edie Sedgwick and the 60’s mod look (see photo on the right - how fabulous does Edi

      College Fashion Trend: Nautical Chic
Primp Anchor Ribbed Tank I was born and raised on Cape Cod, MA, which means I live at the beach from May to August. Because of where I grew up, I’m absolutely LOVING the latest trend I’m noticing everywhere - nautical fashion! It reminds me of home. I kind of want to take credit for this trend with my friends - I’ve been wearing stuff with anchors on it since last summer! I actually thought the trend was over, until a bunch of my most fashionable friends started raving this weekend about how they are “so into nautical clothing” now. Whatever! I was doing it first! In all seriousness though, the nautical trend is hot and I’m sure it will continue to be for summer. Proceed with caution, however. This trend is easy to go overboard on. (Pun intended.) Here is how you can rock the sailor wear without overdoing it: 1. Stick to one piece at a time. Head to toe sailor outfits look cute on little kids, not on you. Use moderation and stick to one

      College Fashion Trend: Yellow
FULL TILT Womens CamiTilly’s - $16.99 . Despite the sub-par weather conditions we’ve been having lately in the northeast US, girls all over campus are still breaking out their spring clothes. We’ve been hearing about the trend for a while, but this weekend is when I first started to notice one particular color on every girl I saw. That’s right, the yellow trend has finally exploded onto the college fashion radar. Yellow is officially THE color of spring 2007. This weekend alone, for example, I saw a group of 7 or 8 girls all in matching yellow outfits. I kid you not. This trend is ridiculously popular. Popular retailers around the country are picking up on this trend too. Wet Seal alone has an entire section dedicated to yellow tops, dresses and accessories, while similar trendy stores like Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe are following suit. Yellow is a flattering color on practically everyone, and is a nice break from the dark colors we wore all winte

College Fashion Trend - Shiny Headbands
Patent Headband: $14Buy at Nordstrom The minute I get to my 12pm bio class, I can’t help but zone out. Science just isn’t my thing. I’m a business major, and I definitely don’t plan to work in a pharmaceutical company in the future. Instead of paying attention to science in bio class, I often stare off into space and check out everyone’s outfits. During today’s fashion-scoping session, I was excited to see a girl two rows ahead of me rocking one of the latest trends in hair styles - a shiny patent leather headband. This college fashionista had on a bright white one that was very similar to the headband pictured here on the left. This hot trend is popping up everywhere right now, and the options are endless. Headbands are an amazing fix for bed-head hair, and can also look adorable with a dressier updo. They work with casual or formal outfits, and come in many versatile colors for spring. College Fashion Don’t: Flip Flops in March
Maybe this will come as a newsflash to some people, given the unseasonably warm weather we’ve been having in New England lately, but…. IT’S STILL MARCH! Now, I’m just as happy with the 55 degree temperatures as the next girl!  It’s amazing to be able to go outside without wearing a billion layers of clothing and sacrificing cuteness for practicality in my footwear.  But some people at my university have just crossed the line. Thats right, I’m talking to you, girls at my school who wore flip flops today!  I’m sorry if I’m offending some of you but it needs to be said.  Repeat with me here.  If there is still SNOW on the ground, you don’t wear your flip flops outside.  Period. I don’t care how warm you think it is out.  I don’t care how badly you want to trudge through a half-melted snow drift in your new flip flops.  You just don’t look good doing it.  Not even if you wear the most adorable flip fl

College Fashion Trend : So Low Pants
Don’t get me wrong here - I don’t condone living in sweats 24/7.  It just looks sloppy.  Besides, why wear sweats when there are so many cute pairs of jeans out there?  But… I have to confess, I’m definitely in love with So Low foldover pants for those rare occasions when comfort is the number one priority. For those of you who don’t know about these adorable and super-comfy sweats, I’m sure you’ve seen them around campus.  They come in a billion different colors, and are made in a great soft and stretchy fabric.  Also, you can fold them down to make them as low-rise or high-rise as you want.  Seriously, don’t wear them to class because you might fall asleep in them!  They’re that comfy. The other great thing about So Low pants is the colors and styles they come in.  These black and pink pants are the Jersey Colorblock Foldover Pants, and come in colors from pink to brown to bright blue.  So Low also makes solid jersey

College Fashion Trend : Metallic Totes
Spring fashion is finally starting to arrive on campus.  Even though temperatures (at least in the Northeast) have been ridiculously cold as of late, many college fashionistas are beginning to incorporate spring fashion’s colors and styles into their winter wardrobes.   One example is the metallic tote bag.  These bags are a huge trend at my school.  I see them everywhere, in colors ranging from simple gold to sparkling platinum and bronze.  This is one trend that I absolutely love!  First of all, metallics match with practically everything, so long as you match warm colors with warm and cool with cool.  Also, these totes are actually very practical.  Most are big enough to hold all your stuff for any class, which is a huge bonus.  Plus, admit it.. what girl doesn’t love accessories that sparkle?

      Welcome to College Fashion .net
Hi and welcome to College Fashion.net, a fashion blog for style-conscious college students.  My name is Briana. I’m an undergrad at a big university in the northeast US, and I’ll admit it right now - I’m a fashion addict.  (You probably are too if you’re reading this!)  I have a passion for clothes, shoes, handbags, accessories and designer labels.  I’m also a typical student though, and I don’t have a ton of money.  For these reasons, I’ve become a “college fashion” expert.  I decided to create this blog to share my knowledge on how to keep up with fashion and look gorgeous on a budget while still balancing classes, friends, dating and everything else. College Fashion will be a daily source for the latest fashion trends, health and beauty tips, deals, coupons, and of course tips and articles on how to make the most of college life.  This website is going to grow considerably over the next few months, and I hope you enjoy it! In the mean
