This could well be one of the best live shows in the city of Boston so far this year... Southern California's Cold War Kids - one of my absolute favorite bands returns to the city tonight to play with talented Austin sons Spoon! This is a must-see live show. The Orpheum - and this WFNX radio sponsored show is the place to be tonight.TONIGHT IN BOSTONCOLD WAR KIDS&SPOONCold War Kids - Heavy BootsSpoon - Bring It On Home to Me (Sam Cooke cover)If you are new to the world of indie rock - this is the best way I can thing of to jump in with both feet. These two bands are at the top of their game - having released great new albums over the last year and having toured extensively. If music is a passion - this is sweet surrender. Go to the show - pick up the albums!Spoon - Don't You EvahCold War Kids - Saint Johnlive w/ Dr. Dog + Elvis PerkinsWFNX Radio is sponsoring this amazing night. Two months ago, when I impulsively bought two tickets to see a Cold War Kids show, I figured I had enough time to find someone to pick up the extra stub. Ive got to have at least one acquaintance who likes these guys, right? Ok, anyone at least heard of them? Cue the crickets
A tip of the hat today to Boston's own Exitfare for keeping me in the know on the Cold War Kids new tour as headliners. The band is also taking a swing through the states in support of the White Stripes! (Now that's a bill.) Definitely better then some of the CWK line-ups I was hearing about before. I am glad our friends are doing well and playing in good company!Cold War Kids - Rubidoux(let this one play even after the music ends for a special treat!)The boys from Whittier, California won't be heading into Boston until December 4 - but they will be playing the Roxy and that sounds like good times! For all the CWK dates, stop over and see Dany over at Exitfare, he's got all that.Previous Posts of Interest to Readers:"Hello from Cold War Kids" - March 2007Linkage:CWK Web / Myspace
Tomorrow night the COLD WAR KIDS return to Boston to play a sold out show at the Middle East in Central Square, Cambridge. It's been amazing year for the band, its fans and the music.... oh the music! I met the band first at the Middle East on June 6 of last year in an amazing line-up with Tapes N Tapes and The Figurines. It was quite a night. The guys in the band (Nate, Johnny, Matt and Matt) have been playing sold-out shows across the country and making fans out of unsuspecting concert-goers ever since. I have since written about the band a handful of times, and what follows is my review of the Robbers and Cowards album which was released on October 10 as well as some bonus live material. Enjoy - and if you don't have any of their material, now would be the time to click over to their page and pick up the album or one of their EPs! Attack on sonic boredom - the cold war kids - rich, layered soulful rock music on sale: "A sound so original and timeless you wonder how it sprang from
It's hard to believe that there are many out there at this point who haven't heard of the hyped indie rockers Cold War Kids, but consider this a mop-up operation for all the as-of-yet uninformed. The California band released their first LP in 2006, Robbers and Cowards, on Downtown Records, the same outfit that has signed Art Brut and Gnarls Barkley. Likely the closest thing to a ballad on the album, Hospital Beds builds dramatically with the help of a very epic-sounding piano melody. Check them out if you haven't already, you'll be glad you did."Hospital Beds" - Cold War KidsCold War Kids: Official SiteCold War Kids: Myspace
So yesterday I poked a bit at the Cold War Kids who did nothing worse than posting free (if not so listenable) music to the band's website. That was harsh, huh? We'll I'm back to nod my head at the kids and say "nice work" in posting the early E.P....
