The theme ingredient for this month’s Cupcake Hero challenge was cocoa powder. I almost passed this month because I seriously hate cocoa powder. Hate isn’t a strong enough word, I think. Loathe is more like it. When I worked in the cafe, I would have to use cocoa powder in large [...]

In a study at Yale University, scientists tested 161 brands of breakfast cereal of which 46 percent were marketed to children.
A cereal was put in this category if it had a character on the box, toys or games inside, or the company's Web site listed the brand as a children's cereal.
Amazingly, children's cereals had more sugar, sodium, carbohydrate and calories per gram than non-children's cereals, and less protein and fiber. Sugar accounted for more than one-third of the weight of children's cereals, on average, compared to less than one-quarter of the adult cereals.
34% of the kids' cereals met nutrition standards for foods sold in schools, compared to 56% of the non-children's cereals, according to Dr. Marlene B. Schwartz of Yale University in New Haven, Conn

Ars' Peter Bright wrote an article today entitled "From Win32 to Cocoa: a Windows user's conversion to Mac OS X", in which he explains why he believes "Windows is dying, Windows applications suck, and Microsoft is too blinkered to fix any of it". These are rather harsh words, but there is a definitive element of truth in it. The article is part one in a three-part series. In
the article, Bright
"Windows is dying, Windows applications suck, and Microsoft is too blinkered to fix any of it—that's the argument. The truth is that Windows is hampered by 25-year old design decisions. These decisions mean that it's clunky to use and absolutely horrible to write applications for. The applications that people do write are almost universally terrible. They're ugly, they're inconsistent, they're disorganized; there's no finesse, no care lavished on them. Microsoft—surely the company with the greatest interest in making Windows and Windows applications exude quality—is, in fact, one of the worst perpetrators. ."[via ars technica]

“Look how long I’ve been warning, but the people weren’t listening.” This two hour dance filled party double CD covers the years 1983-2006. Cocoa Tea has quietly been making fun reggae music for over 20 years. Well known in some circles, he’s never become a household name in the manner of Bob Marley or Desmond Dekker. This is a wonderful introduction for everyone who has missed his steady growth. Of course the hits are included, but a healthy taste of his variety is included. Warning – Once you’ve tasted the work you’ll probably start seeking out the complete works. Shoutout for the extreme soul of Can't Be Real & the reggae-pop of Lost My Sonia. Cocoa Tea

Drinking a cup of hot cocoa a day, apart from providing protection from sun, helps in maintaining a youthful skin.
Researchers at the Heinrich Heine University, Dusseldorf, Germany, found that women, who drank antioxidant-rich brand of hot cocoa for three months regularly, developed smoother, well-hydrated skin which is less vulnerable to suntan. This is due to [...]

Loco Cocoa has returned home. The bird is like the kids , hunger brings them home in the evenings so I knew when it got hungry enough it would come a little lower in the trees where we could reach it. Now to outsmart the bird we will need to start key locking the cage.Outside of the bird adventures it has been rather quiet here. Just the way I like it. No drama , just daily living although as I am writing this I can hear my usual two littles starting their typical evening whinefest. Just telling them to go get washed up and ready for bed sets these two off. Every night we say the same thing and still they haven't caught on...."we didn't say you had to go to bed , we said you need to get ready to go to bed." and every night they whine....I don't want to go to bed....please...please...pl

It’s getting colder and colder. I was not made for cold weather at all, anything below 75 F has me running for the long sleeves and thick socks. I’m a wimp, it’s OK.
So, since I’m sitting here shivering while everyone else in my house feels “just fine” I’m going to share my favorite cold weather treat. This is what I make for myself to drink when it’s too cold to do anything more than snuggle under the blankets with a good book. The drink itself isn’t that extraordinary, just a simple mug of hot cocoa. It’s what I put into the mug that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
First I pull out some of my special peppermint sticks. If I’m out of sticks, or if I’m making this for my kids and want something easier for them to handle I use candy canes. The curve at the top makes a perfect handle. Next I need some chocolate. I know, there’s plenty of chocolate in the hot cocoa, right? I say you can never have enou

I decided to write about random thoughts that come to my mind. Queen Helene’s Cocoa Butter Hand and Body Lotion is currently on my mind. This particular lotion I’ve used on and off. My mother and I used to be frequent dollar store shoppers and we’d buy this lotion. One 32 fl oz bottle would last soooo long. As the years progressed we stopped going to the dollar store, the household budget increased, we started getting Vaseline brand lotion. I got used to Vaseline and other non generic brands so when I moved out I continued buying the more expensive lotions.
NOW.
Greg goes through lotion very quickly. He has to put lotion on every crevice of his body. He already has loooong legs, so do I, but he has more leg to go around, lol. We find ourselves buying a bottle of Suave, St. Ive’s, or whatever brand is cheaper each week or so. Greg’s used to using Jergen’s but we cannot afford Jergen’s the way he goes through it! You realize how hard you have it
So while everyone, their mother and their next door neighbour's dog is making blogs, i've been getting back to the swing of things at university. I've been listening and popping cds in my cd player like pills and theres so much crap out. Scorcher's Thunder Power was all thunder and no lights camera action. Except for Revolver's Rest In Peace which is the only thing on there that isn't beggin uk hiphop or what we've already heard before. Even though Revolver is a total wank stain it still is an addictive song in the strangest way.Remember what I was talking about here well I was told by a certain manager that there would be a BBK Vs Movement Clash tonight (8th October) but as I hear a certain 2 mcs weren't exactly on it because of some issues of scaredom or something or other. But instead I was informed by a source (big up National Enquirer) that Ghetto will be holding a birthday set tomorow (bloody better be now im bloggin this) with a few special guests. With the look of fossilized dinosaur eggs, Kakawa Cocoa Beans represents chocolate in five different delicious forms. Covered in layers of white, milk and dark chocolates and finished off with a dusting of velvety cocoa powder, the roasted whole Criollo/Trinitario cocoa bean (some of the best in the world) in the middle provides a satisfying and needed crunch. We like the way you can really taste the different types of chocolates in waves of distinct flavors. Authentic, rich and with great contrasting textures, the Kakawa Cocoa Bean is available for $28 per 12 oz. bag from Cocoa Puro. (Read the full post about ‘Kakawa Cocoa Beans’…)
In the Caribbean, for generations the Trinitarios cacao trees have been grown under the tropical heat in a loamy clay soil. The rich scents of these fine cocoas make a chocolate with an exceptional bouquet. Its fruity sweetness, with only a hint of sugar, brings out the delicate flavors of almond and roasted coffee. Caraibe is a Grand Cru ideal for lovers of full balanced chocolate. It will bring out all the aroma of a soft coffee with its hints of roasted dried fruit as an aftertaste. Valrhona is considered by many chefs and gourmands around the world to produce the finest chocolate that contains no added fat or butter oil, resulting in less calories than most chocolate.Read more or shop at Le Village.

This week, I’ve decided to post my regular fuelmyblog article here as well as there.
Just as I’m sure some people will appreciate the information, I’m also sure this post, like my post on Salvia, will draw a multitude of comments from those “you just need to get high and you’ll understand it better” type of people.
Nevertheless, here it is…
You know who Slipknot and Breaking Benjamin are, you know what an Industrial is, you know the difference between MySpace and Nexopia or Facebook and Xanga. Hell, you even know the difference between MSN, AIM and Yahoo.
You’re a kick-ass parent.
Your teen’s got nothing on you.
Maybe. Maybe not.
In a recent USA Today story, reporter Donna Leinwand shares the results of a Nielsen BuzzMetrics study. By tracking about 10 million online messages written by teens over the past year, the study shows what kids are talking about online.
And it’s not homework.

Oil,
It’s the prime reason for all the madness in this world. America is blowing up half of the middle east because of it. Polar bears are drowning in far flung places. Al Gore is back on the interview circuit and in the Presidential race. Economies boom and bust on the price of a barrel going up or down by a dollar. The black gold holds everyone and every country to ransom.
Here in Switzerland, oil is as important as anywhere else. But they also keep their eye on some other very important products. As well as the price of a barrel of oil, the global interest rates are closely watched by the hundreds of banking firms here. The price of gold is fundamentally important to the stocks of Nazi gold buried somewhere under the Alps. Pharma companies live and die by clinical trials and share prices. All are important to keeping Switzerland afloat.
There’s one economic standard I never considered that holds a lot of sway over the Swiss economy. I realised this the other day when I s

In fact, his research revealed that the cocoa extract was even more effective than fluoride in fighting cavities.

I couldn’t help but notice this beautiful new box of Pocky on the shelf at my local asian mart. The shiny silver package with the thick cocoa dusted Pocky sticks and the large kanji reading “winter” called to me: “Hey! I’m yummy and I’m only around for a limited time this winter!” Not able to resist its charms, the Pocky found a home in my shopping cart.
Each packet of this Pocky contains 6 sticks. My first thoughts were how the sticks don’t really have the full cocoa coating as illustrated on the box, as it’s really more of a light dusting. I was lied to! The other thing I immediately notice is how thick the chocolate coating is layered on. It’s easily three times the amount of normal Pocky but not as much as Decorer. This Pocky smells of a dark, intense bitter chocolate. The kind that makes you want to immediately grab a glass of milk.
This is by far the most delicious Pocky I have ever tasted. I am in love! It’s li

It's the Rice Krispies Treat for all you chocolate lovers. By simply replacing regular RiceKrispies with Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies, then adding a bit of cocoa to the recipe, we can clone theexact flavor of the product you otherwise have to buy in boxes in the grocery store. This recipemakes 16 of the crunchy brown bars, or the equivalent of two boxes of the real thing.3 tablespoons margarine1/4 teaspoon salt5 cups miniature marshmallows1/2 teaspoon vanilla4 teaspoons cocoa6 cups Cocoa Krispies cerealnon-stick cooking spray1.Combine margarine and salt in a large saucepan over low heat.2.When margarine has melted, add marshmallows and vanilla and stir until marshmallows have melted. Add cocoa and stir well. Remove from heat.3.Add Cocoa Krispies and stir until the cereal is well-coated with the melted marshmallow mixture.4.Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with a light coating of non-stick cooking spray. Pour the mixture into the dish and, using wax paper or lightly greased hands, press down
Here's a nifty tip that should work in all Cocoa apps (Mail, TextEdit, Safari etc.) If you can't remember how to spell a word, type the beginning and hit Escape for some word suggestions. There are a number of different ways of doing this however. In certain places it isn't possible to press escape, because it does something else (like clearing the Google search box in Safari). In these cases you can use Option-Escape, or just press F5. These two alternatives may take a little longer, but seem to work everywhere. So now if you can't spell something, you don't have to attempt the whole word, just put in the first few letters and let the system spelling dictionary do the rest.
While it has been hard to find a commodity in an uptrend lately, there is a new name on the list that may be due for higher prices. Just this month, cocoa broke above its four-year downtrend and appears to be holding its gains despite a slower outlook for the world economy.
Why are cocoa prices rising? There's a saying that the best cure for low prices is low prices and that is probably the best
