Coastal Redwood tree - Sequoia sempervirens
The main claim to fame for the Coastal Redwood (also called the California Redwood) is that it is the tallest tree species in the world, with the tallest actual tree being 379 feet tall. This tree species should not be confused with the Giant Sequoia, which is the largest (by volume) tree species in the world. Both the Coastal Redwood and the Giant Sequoia are native to the Pacific coast of North American in California and Oregon. The seed cone of the Coastal redwood is quite a bit smaller than its Giant Sequoia counterpart measuring about 2 cm long (just under one inch). The cone has a similar look to those of the Cypress Sempervirens. The "leaves" of the Coastal Redwood are very different from those of the Giant Sequoia. They are needle-like and flat, measuring about half an inch long.

What amazed me even more was his enthusiasm for Hurtigruten as a company, and their goals to satisfy the passenger. It’s not just a cruise, but more of a complete educational procress that enriches your life experiences in the short time you are with them. Now you have no excuses. Review Of Coastal Scents Silk Cover Light 1.2 Mineral Foundation
Sample Size- $2Full Size- $21.95I tried Coastal Scents Mineral Make-Up a few days back. This's the second mineral make-up brand I tried and I must admit that they exceeded my expectation. Initially, I was a little apprehensive about their foundation because I had this pre-conceived notion that Powder Foundation's not good for dry skin. And I've always used liquid foundation. But Coastal Scents proved it wrong. I tried their Silk Cover Light 1.2 Mineral Foundation and was amazed with the result. It was very light, comfortable and gave a very flawless finish. I wore it for 8 hours and it didn't feel dry at all. I got lots of Compliments from my friends that day. I would definitely recommend this product to you. Don't think twice, just go ahead and grab one for yourself.

My Skin is normal to dry and I had never tried Powder Foundation Before(I always go for liquid foundation) and was a bit scared to try their powder foundation thinking that my skin would become dry. But it was absolutely light and comfortable and my skin didn't feel dry at all. I applied their Silk Cover Light 1.2 Mineral Foundation, Sassy Blush, combination of Frenzy and Moroccan Eye Shadows and their 50's Twist Glossi Glaze (On some photos I have applied Loreal Soft Mauve Gloss on top of Glossi Glaze to experiment). I think it looked natural and not overdone. I have managed to take some shots with my webcam(So lighting is not proper). In fact, home-based businesses have become widely throughout the world for many reasons.People can stop rushing around to an office environment, spending more and more on gas and travel-related costs (parking, car upkeep, business, clothing, dry cleaning, mending, etc.) Plus the earths environment gets less polluted with less automotive waste going into the air.And there are perks like no boss ordering you around, no daily grind of deadlines, no water cooler gossip. Extra income is a perk thats most desired, of course. And spending quality time with your family and at home on your own.But this extra income and these others perks do not come for free. Steve Irwin’s Last Paper: Satellite Tracking Reveals Long Distance Coastal Travel and Homing by Translocated Estuarine Crocodiles, Crocodylus porosus
This is the last paper Steve Irwin wrote before he was tragically killed. Abstract Crocodilians have a wide distribution, often in remote areas, are cryptic, secretive and are easily disturbed by human presence. Their capacity for large scale movements is poorly known. Here, we report the first study of post-release movement patterns in translocated adult crocodiles, and the first application of satellite telemetry to a crocodilian. Three large male Crocodylus porosus (3.1–4.5 m) were captured in northern Australia and translocated by helicopter for 56, 99 and 411 km of coastline, the last across Cape York Peninsula from the west coast to the east coast. All crocodiles spent time around their release site before returning rapidly and apparently purposefully to their capture locations. The animal that circumnavigated Cape York Peninsula to return to its capture site, travelled more than 400 km in 20 days, which is the longest homeward travel yet reported for a crocodilian. California Coastal Commission Requests Denial of Longline Permit
On Friday, August 10 the California Coastal Commission voted unanimously to oppose issuance of an Exempted Fishing Permit (EFP) to use longline gear off the U.S. West Coast. The finding that the issuance of such a permit is not consistent with California's Coastal Zone Management Plan places increased pressure on the Washington Headquarters of the National Marine Fisheries Service to deny the permit application, which was approved by the federal Pacific Fishery Management Council earlier this year.TBF joined a coalition of environmental, sportfishing and small scale commercial fishing organizations to voice opposition to the permit at the Commission's meeting.TBF has been leading the fight against any development of a longline fishery off the West Coast since 2000."Bite Me" Matava Resort Kadavu Fiji Islands www.matava.com

California Coastal Commission Considering Longline Permit
The California Coastal Commission (CCC) meets this week in San Francisco. It has just come to light that the CCC is considering the recently approved federal Exempted Fishing Permit (EFP), which authorizes one pelagic longline to fish off a portion of California's shores. The Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) approved the federal permit, which still requires the approval of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The CCC has authority to make recommendations on federally approved actions that might impact species in state waters. TBF believes the CCC will oppose the federal action out of concern that species in state waters will be negatively impacted. State officials realize the federal government is interested in increasing, on both coasts, the U.S. swordfish landings. The U.S. is currently importing more swordfish than is being caught by U.S. fleets. Thus the federal decision makers at all levels are expected to support the Council action autho

      Normandy's coastal retreats
When you think of French beaches, the sparkling Cote d’Azur first springs to mind. Move your gaze up the map slightly, and let them rest on France’s northern coast, whose villages and ports were once the leisure spots of Paris’s high society. Puff Daddy and his ilk may holiday in its southern sister, but Napoleon III and his entourage preferred the north. Dotting the coast, just two hours from Paris are several beautiful harbour towns, the showpieces of which are Deauville, and only slightly further along, the literarily mythic Cabourg. Don’t be put off by the fact that these resort towns are situated on our humble English Channel rather than a more exotic body of water – this side belongs to La France, and, bien sur, everything is steeped in elegance.

Homeowners should find out what kind of improvements can entitle them to get a reduction in their premiums by consulting with their insurance agent.Beginning next year Connecticut will require that coastal homeowners who install storm shutters or impact-resistant glass be offered reduced premiums or deductibles. One alternative for lowering out-of-pocket premiums without making improvements is to raise the amount of a deductible, and again, homeowners should get advice from their insurance agents. The Institute for Business and Home Safety presents in its website www.ibhs.org some very useful information on how to protect a home from natural disasters. Consult your Insurance Agent.

      Drive-in Cinema in Coastal Karnataka
This post is an English translation of one of my Kannada article, which you can read here.(I contributed as guest writer at Majavani, an award winning and popular Kannada blog)Non Kannada readers will need quick background info before starting off with the article.Udupi and Mangalore (aka Dakshina Kannada or South Canara) districts are located in coastal Karnataka, India, stretching along the Arabian Sea in the west and Western Ghats in the east. Kundapur is a taluk headquarter, while Udupi and Mangalore are district headquarters (refer map). National Highway Number 17 passes through these districts connecting the cities mentioned above. Public transport is dominated by private bus operators as against state owned RTC buses in most of the other parts of the state. These private bus operators compete with each other in launching new and luxurious buses even for the local travel and these buses cruise at top speeds on the narrow NH17 literally forcing small vehicles off the road while th

      New Coastal Woman Cover
So this is kinda neat — Coastal Woman’s new summer 2007 issue features a shot I took a few weeks ago on its cover. An honor! Check it out! For the camera geeks in the house (hi Dad!) I lit the shot with two off-camera Canon 580 flashes. I didn’t need to break out the bigger White Lightening studio stobes because I was shooting at twilight and wanted to utilize a lot of the ambient light. One flash is directly behind the chair, adding a little rim lighting to the subjects and also reflecting light backwards to fill in the background a little. The other light was on a stand and was shooting through an umbrella to my left. Both were triggered by Pocket Wizards. By the way, if anyone wants to learn a lot about quick and dirty lighting techniques, they should hit up the Strobist blog at strobist.blogspot.com.

      "Coastal Access" Photo Series
I just finished my photographic series called COASTAL ACCESS.I've always lived near the ocean, and it has been a constant source of peace and replenishment to me. With this series, I'm hoping to raise awareness in my own small way that we must keep our beaches clean and unpolluted so everyone can enjoy them. A portion of this series will be shown in two different venues this coming January. More details to follow on that later. The complete series can be seen on my website: http://www.barbaragordonphotography.com, Here is an excerpt from my artist statement..."You can tell all you need to about a society from how it treats animals and beaches." - Frank Deford COASTAL ACCESS is a reminder that we are free to access our beautiful shorelines, but also that we must remain vigilant to preserve their beauty. The oceans and beaches have been a source of calming, cleansing, and replenishing since the beginning of time, and it is only with our conservancy and perseverance that future generati

I have long had the idea of finding a wealthy patron who is willing to host an art party, like the candle parties or Tupperware parties, or basket parties, where the hostess gets a little painting for doing the food and inviting influential friends. How about renting a vacant store front space for a day, or asking an artist with compatible work to share his/her studio for a weekend party? You could share the expenses. Don't forget rec centers, church halls and other alternative spaces like a local restaurant. When I first moved my studio back home in the building behind my house others said, "It will never work. You live too far from town".My studio is 12 miles from the city, out in the rural area of the county. It has never been a problem. Most people tell me that they enjoy the drive, getting out to the co
