I’ve been meaning to write up a blog about my experiences at Coachella for the past week but I’ve been so busy that I’m finally getting a chance to sit down and write about it. I completely forgot that it was coming up and I wound up purchasing a ticket from Ebay for a whopping $200. I heard Prince was going to be the new headliner but I really wanted to go to see Portishead. Their last performance here was about 10 years ago and it was a perfect opportunity for me to see one of my greatest influences LIVE. I live in Hollywood right now so it was pretty far drive. It usually takes about 2 to 3 hours depending on traffic. I was having a hard time on deciding whether I should just wake up hella early and make sure to get there right when it opened, or should I rest up

So, with all that Coachella business going on the past couple months, there hasn't been much Jazz going on 'round here. Let's start to fix that, shall we?And what better way than with a track from the legendary Strata East label. These guys are were the finest purveyors of the Soul Jazz (or Spiritual Jazz, either of those terms basically being code for groove-based awesomeness), coming out of New York in the early '70s. Everybody is very excited about the upcoming Coachella appearance by Happy Mondays. Everybody, that is, except U.S. immigration officials. Bez, hype man/onstage energy provider/dancer/castanet shaker for the band, has been denied a Visa for its appearance. It will be the Happy Mondays' first U.S. performance in 15 years but, sadly, an appearance without their heart and soul

... we now return you to the previously scheduled program...The Amalgamation of Soundz are yet another one of those producing teams that are just a couple of faceless, yet most assuredly dorky, dudes who for some reason cannot miss when they put out a tune or remix... and they've put out plenty, on a number of different labels. This here track is the first one on their second full length album (creatively titled Part 2 - I guess they used it all up on the music), and what a starter it is... super smooth, atmospheric breaks... The Amalgamation of Soundz - For Real Ya know, it's hard to come up with a funny, relevant anecdote for such relatively anonymous artists... so here, for your comedic portion of the blog today, is a guy ghostriding his whip into a telephone pole...That's gonna leave a mark!
