Cloth Diapers versus Disposables
Cost
For mothers, like me, on a tight budget, cloth diapers are the perfect way to cut costs. Despite having an initial expense, you don’t have to buy them every week like disposables. Cloth Diapers cost over £700 ($1500) less than disposables over the diapering life of one child. On [...]
Honestly, I never thought that the research I did for the writing of our article, The Stink On Disposable Diapers, would have put me on a path of going cloth with my baby girl. Truth be told, I had tried using cloth diapers for 2 days when my baby was more of an infant, [...]
By: Jane Bear The most important thing when raising a child is to make sure he or she is healthy. It is also very important that the baby should be comfortable, safe, and happy at all times. A way to ensure the baby's comfort is to keep him or her clean. A cloth diaper can help you do the job.Less than thirty years ago, disposable diapers were considered a luxury, so the only option was cotton diapers, which require a ton of laundry work. Nowadays, an increasing number of people use cotton diapers, and people that use these diapers for their babies are considered to be odd. There are several reasons that the parents of today might want to use cotton diapers instead of disposables, and, believe it or not, cloth diapers are starting to make a bit of a comeback. The main reason that one may choose to start using a cloth diaper instead of disposables is the cost. Cloth diapers are much cheaper than disposable diapers; you buy them once and re-use countless times since they are washable.Usi
A number of people have written and asked April and I for advice about using cloth diapers. Our friend Angela most recently emailed with some questions, so I asked her if I could include her questions here with April's answers. I hope those of you who are thinking about using cloth diapers will find this useful. Also, if you would like to contribute your own thoughts or experiences or ask a question that isn't answered here, feel free to leave a comment.QUESTIONS ABOUT WASHING CLOTH DIAPERS:Can I wash all the different types of cloth diapers the same way?Washing can be as easy or as difficult as you want to make it. I have 4 brands, mostly from Drybees, followed by BumpGenius (one size). Those with nice prints, please the dark blue and the one with laces, are from Drybees - these are my favourite. I am treating these CDs as fashion rather than diapers already.
Don’t quite like BumpGenius as it leaks at night, no matter how hard I tried diferent variations of inserts. Best to be used during the day, but I prefer to show off my nice Drybees during the day, so… it is just like deciding what you want to wear to match your clothes — I’m doing this with my daughter’s diaper!
