When Cloning a Dog is a Good Idea
Dogs we wish we could clone: Benji. Underdog. Balto. Lassie. Scooby Doo. Beethoven. Deputy Dawg. Trakr? If you’re wondering who Trakr is, he’s one of the dogs who sniffed out survivors of the New York World Trade Center catastrophe back in 2001. He actually located the last living survivor, who was trapped 30 feet [...]

This could be a safety net against people with a certain gene being [...]

Warning On Car Cloning - Thousands Of Drivers Hit By Vehicle Identity Theft
BRITISH motorists are at increasing risk of falling victim to vehicle identity theft. Organised criminal gangs are believed to be raking in billions of pounds a year through car cloning and other related crimes. As a result, drivers are being urged to thoroughly check out motors before they buy. And mycarcheck.com, the UK’s fastest-growing vehicle data provider, have launched a campaign to highlight the dangers of car cloning. Almost every police force in Britain have reported a rise in the thefts of number plates. It’s been estimated that there could already be more than 100,000 cloned cars on the roads. Roger Powell, general manager of mycarcheck.com, said: “Car cloning is big business and often the proceeds from such crimes are used by organised gangs to finance drugs

      Cloning Treats Mouse Parkinson's Disease
Therapeutic cloning has been successfully used to treat Parkinson's disease in mice. The study in Nature Medicine provides the best evidence so far that the controversial technique could one day help people with the condition. The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre team says it is the first time animals have been successfully treated with their own cloned cells. In Parkinson's disease, nerve cells in the part of the brain that controls muscle movement either die or become impaired. Normally, these cells produce a vital chemical known as dopamine, which allows smooth, co-ordinated function of the body's muscles and movement. In this study, stem cells were developed into dopamine-producing neurons the missing nerve cells in Parkinson's disease. The mice that received neurons der

      The Technology Of Cloning:
The term ‘clone’ has its etymological roots in the Greek word for ‘branch’ thus highlighting the origin of the biological science of creating a duplicate of a biological organism. You basically are cloning a plant when you grow it from a cutting. Cloning is also used to refer to the occurrence of asexual reproduction in an organism.Scientists have been conducting and closely monitoring cloning activities for years. In 1997, the first mammal, a sheep named Dolly, was successfully cloned by scientists. This development in the field of biotechnology paved the path for growing awareness around this particular field of research. There are three main types of cloning technologies. DNA cloning or recombinant DNA technology, which refers to transferring fragments of DNA from one organism to a genetic element that is capable of replicating itself. Molecular biology is one of the main proponents of this technology.A second type of cloning process involves creating an animal using nuclear

      Photoshop Tip: Non-Destructive Cloning
Photo by Phil Hilfiker [CC by-nc-sa] Cloning is often one of those tasks of necessity that we like to keep to a minimum. It’s a technique that’s hard to do well, and even harder to master. But this post isn’t about how to use Photoshop’s Clone tool — it’s about how to use it non-destructively and in a manner that offers more control over your image. What do I mean by “non-destructive” cloning? Well… cloning is destructive in nature, meaning that it changes pixels. When you change the pixels, you can’t get the original ones back. Destructive editing is worth avoiding because it takes away your ability to change your mind or adjust the edit at a later date. So open up Photoshop, pull in a photo that needs a little cloning, and follow along. By the way, when you see something in parentheses (like this), that means it’s a Photoshop keyboard shortcut. 1. CREATE A NEW EMPTY LAYER This is usually the first thing I do

5 Tips on Vector Preparation for Cloning
One of the most crucial steps in any cloning procedure is the preparation of the vector. Get it wrong and your chances of success will be drastically reduced. The overall aim for a good vector preparation is to obtain a fairly concentrated stock of undamaged, fully digested plasmid DNA that is free from contaminants. Missing any of these aims will affect the efficiency of the ligation and is the cause of many of the problems researchers have with cloning. Here are my top tips for vector preparation: (more…)

Cloning in Japan?? is it legal?
If I could clone all my Saturday classes.....My week would be a touch easier. The J.H. students. ( not pictured due to shyness ) are moving so fast that my adult lessons are not enough anymore. I have heard that the ability to obtain/retain a second language becomes 50% more difficult after the age of 11/12. Due to the maturation of that part of the brain.I 100% believe that because I see the proof on a daily basis. 7-18yr olds move at a blazing pace that adults cannot match. I get little satisfaction when teaching adults who enjoy English as a "hobby". I had a class ask me to stop administering tests to them. It was too difficult. They want to "relax and enjoy".Um.....yeah.....right.I'm a teacher and um.....yeah... this is a school.I have several teachers who study with me and that will continue since I have alot of respect for them. But the days of me going through this:Me: So what did you do Yesterday?Student: ( 10 second pause.. followed by blank stare.. followed by): Not much.**C

      Free SMS: SIM Cloning
Free SMS: SIM CloningFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaSIM cloning consists of illegally duplicating the GSM Subscriber Identity Module (a SIM card must be entered into a GSM phone in order for it to connect to a network, except for the basic GSM emergency 112 calls or local emergency calls like emergency 911 calls if the user is in the United States) identification and placing calls or using other charged services using the account of the cloned SIM.In the early 1990s, due to poor security, cloning was more common than it is today. Cloning has now been rendered more challenging technically (as physical access to the SIM card is required as opposed to simply being within radio reach).SIM cloning is now more difficult to perform, as merely duplicating the contents of the SIM does not enable a duplicate SIM to operate, as the SIM itself performs security operations on the data contained inside to avoid such copying. In order to function, the cloned SIM needs to perform security operat

      Mobile Guru: Mobile phone cloning
Mobile Guru: Mobile phone cloningThe mobile phone market has grown rapidly in the last few years. But at the same time, the industry is losing millions of dollars in revenue because of the criminal actions of persons who are able to reconfigure mobile phones so that their calls are billed to other phones owned by third persons. These cloned phones are used to place hundreds of calls, often long distance, even to foreign countries, resulting in thousands of dollars in air time and long distance charges. Mobile cloning is copying the identity of one mobile telephone to another mobile telephone. The account number of a victim telephone user is stolen and reprogrammed into another cellular telephone. Each cellular phone has a unique pair of identifying numbers: the Electronic Serial Number (ESN) and the Mobile Identification Number (MIN). These numbers can be cloned without the knowledge of the carrier or the subscriber.Be it Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) or Code Division Mu
