      Make money from grandfather clocks
There is clock running in my family since 2008. Yes you guessed it right. It is the one of those unsual grandfather clocks. That is the essence of it. It stands eight and one-half feet tall. I've seen many clocks in my time and believe me, this is a clock. It is a pretty new one and NOT an antique. Am I obsessed with this clock? Is this clock merely an image of what lies beyond its existence? Does

Changing Our Clocks: New Research Explores How Our Bodies Keep Time
Researchers have learned that circadian rhythms -- the 24-hour cycles that keep time for your body -- are involved in sleep, weight gain, mood disorders, and a variety of diseases. They have begun to make remarkable strides in identifying the genes and neural pathways involved in regulating your internal clock. In one surprising finding, researchers found that a single amino acid change in a protein triggers a chain of genetic events involved in internal timekeeping. If this single modification is impaired, it could disrupt the cascade and serve as the underpinning of circadian rhythm-related ailments.

Telling Time Through The Centuries With Grandfather Clocks
By: Andrei MyersThe swing of the pendulum brought back the grandfather clocks. The new breed of clocks retains the old charisma but have new interesting features. These are surely must-haves for the incurable romantics.Step back into timeMans compulsive need to know the time dates back to ancient eras. This was dictated by the seasons and his need to hunt, plant, and harvest. Before the grandfather clocks took its important place in the history of horology, people told the time by the shadow of the sun on the meridian line or by the rate that water dripped from a vessel with a tiny hole.Until the 1500s, people had to rely on inaccurate time telling devices. Galileo Galilei opened the way to the improvement of mechanical time devices. He hit upon the idea of using the pendulum to provide a better way to keep time. This idea and was later improvised by Christian Huygens, a Dutchman, but his clock erred by one minute less a day. Being able to detect this was already a huge advancement in

How Often Do you Change Alarm Clocks?
One of the most dreadful sounds people usually hear when it is time to get up is that of a ringing alarm clock going like crazy. People have a choice, get up or put it on snooze option. Some even throw their alarm clock or bang it to stop ringing. The result? Well a busted alarm clock which needs to be replaced. People have a hard time getting up at times. If given the choice they would just stay in bed and lay down comfortably. But the reality is we have to get up at times. And it is only our alarm clocks that can remind us of that. So given the scenario, chances are we have to change alarm clocks every once in a while since we too are responsible for destroying it. It may sound crazy but the thing is, it is a reality to some people who have made it a habit. Ever wonder how many alarm clocks you buy to replace destroyed ones? Try to check out for yourself. Howard Miller Clocks
My first encounter with a grandfather clock was at my cousins house. Her mother loved things that were expensive and she had one of those in her house. I had no idea that they were expensive, I just loved the way it was wound and the sound it made. I was really fascinated by that grandfather clock. I wouldn’t learn just how expensive they were until I was in my early twenties and my now ex husband got a job working part time in a furniture store. I don’t really have a place in this house to put a grandfather clock but someday very soon I hope to have a nice big house to put a grandfather clock into. Specifically Howard Miller clocks. They have both grandfather and grandmother clocks on there site. I really don’t understand what the difference between the two actually is. I could probably look it up if I cared enough about it to do so, but I don’t. I would simply go with what ever clock I like best. I prefer things that look like there antiques. They

In the Spring I call workers, and remind everyone constantly to move clocks forward; because if they don't then they will be late. But in the Fall I just let it pass by without a single mention, knowing that the worst thing that could happen is they arrive 1 hour early! Should I feel guilty about hoping that some forget to move their clocks back and get to church early? I Think Not!Wikipedia has a great article on DST. Check it Out.

This is the first year Hoosiers have observed Daylight Savings Time. It doesn’t bother me one way or the other. I guess I would rather have the extended time in the evening. I love the winter; I just don’t like it when it gets dark at 4:00 p.m.  The bonus is you get an extra hour of sleep. Until Spring, that is! Then you have to give it back. Now, I have to remember my family in Arizona, where they don’t change time, is only two hours behind Indiana.       Tags: Time+Indianapolis Share This

This morning I was up with him at 5am, only for him to have exhausted himself by 6am. He then rewoke at 8am and the day continued in that vein. I am hoping that things will soon return to normal. With half-term over, I will now have to find some way of keeping the older two entertained. They usually just run off steam in the nearest green space but with the sun setting so early this will not be possible for much longer. Time to get creative I suppose and try to find that mini trampoline I once bought them. Maybe I should just convert one of the rooms in my house into a softplay area with slides/balls etc Well, I could if I had the space! I

      Grandfather Clocks and Avoiding Scams
Christmas is right around the corner and it’s time to start thinking of what to get for mom and dad. My parents have got to be the hardest people to shop for ever. They’re the kind of people who have everything imaginable and if they don’t have it it’s probably because they don’t want it. Every year my mom just asks for me to stop smoking cigarettes as her present and my dad wants hockey tape for

      Four O'Clocks
Emily from her Garden Living blog had a post and pictures on four o'clocks that remind her of "grandma". Hers are a cheerful hot pink color, but four o'clocks come in a mardi gras variety of colors that really brighten up the garden. I grew some a couple years ago and hoped to winter them over, they are hardy- better be as they are native the Andes (hence the name: Marvel of Peru). They are warm-season annuals, but produce lasting underground tuber-like roots. Kind of like skinny dahlia roots, they also can self-sow. But mine did not survive, and I really don't know the reason. A good gardener tries again for something that is wanted in the garden, so Emily's post inspired me to try again. My own memory is of a neighborhood lady who lived on a corner shoehorned tight against the street. Her house was raised up and bounded by a retaining wall that held the four o' clock hedge right at eye level of pre-teen passersby (me!). The pink, yellow, and fuschia flowers were fascinating to ob

      Antique clocks
The value of a clock some think does not go beyond the obvious that it should be tell the time. But to those who appreciate the time-piece can give their all to collect them. The sophisticated chrome watch, leather straps, pink dials is the modern crust that did not exist in the years gone by.Infact having a watch was so expensive once upon a time that only the elite were privileged to own them. The commoners had to depend on the few locks put up in the city.Watch collectors look for something that is not common and that is exactly what you find in antique clocks. Each watch was made individually so there are no two watches that look the same. The grandfather clocks were a showpiece that decorated most homes in India. The pendulum goes down in history as a piece of work to remember. Wind t

      Clocks on the Mantel
I love clocks. I don’t know why, but there is something very appealing about them. I love old clocks, clocks that were made years ago. Clocks fascinate me, especially how they were made and put together back in the old days when people were just starting to make them. I have never had Howard Miller clocks but I’ve been looking at their website, and I’ve been dreaming of getting one. I would love a mantel clock, an antique like this Brass Bell Clock for the mantel above the fireplace. I love sitting in front of the fire in the winter, watching TV or knitting, and I do love having a fancy front room. And this clock would really finish off the room nicely. I would love to find a interior designer around me here in Utah. I would like to know if they have Howard Miller Clocks. I hope I don’t have to design the house around a new clock, though! But you know how it goes. Update one thing… and the rest has to be changed as well. I’m going to check ou

      Grandfather Clocks
One of my cousins had a grandfather clock when I was growing up. I used to stay the night with her all of the time and I loved that clock. it was big and fancy and I liked to play with the things inside of it, plus I liked the noise it made when the hour came around. grandfather clocks is kind of a big unnecessary expense. They are beautiful but very very expensive. As much as a thousand dollars or more for one. They don’t require batteries or electricity to work. There very old fashioned. You don’t see many clocks like that in peoples houses these days. Probably because they are expensive and not the sort of thing people just have to have. But they are the kind of thing that you would leave to your kids or grand kids to be passed down from generation to generation. I used to want one, simply because I thought it would look good in my house but since the new one will have a sort of sci fi medieval theme I don’t think that’s going to work. Although I

Using Ghost Clocks to Layer your Flower
This is inspired by one of the clock that I saw on the new Window Vista. I love how they've designed the clock to be a flower. So I've thought of using the ghost clocks by heidi swapp to do this. In my latest layout title "Confused" in my baby gallery, I've included a clock flower as above. I've used a cheap fabric sunflower and stamped on it using a butterfly stamp to create a more sophisticated look. Then I've put a ghost clock on top of it. To create more dimensions to it, I've use a cut out circle from corrugated paper and a large polka dot brad.

Another reason to hate Alarm Clocks
Besides being evil… joking. While I was act my sigma sleep over last night, my alarm clock desided it missed me this morning and went off… for hours… waking up my entire floor. So now, not only do I hate that damn blasted thing, the whole 20’s wing hates it as well. I have no clue where Gabby was since she apparently was not awaken by it. She must have been at her condo or some friends room for I do not believe anyone could possibly sleep through that. The girls next door sure didn’t and made sure that I knew too! They called Sonya and security to get some one to turn that thing off but since no one was home, Sonya and security could not enter our room. I find it sad that I can work a computer, figure out long math problems, write papers relating to Plato and I can not figure out how to work an alarm clock! I think its sent from some deep, dark, evil pit in hell.

The Manhattan Project Of Computer Clocks
Atomic Alarm Clock is far from the first piece of software that replaces the standard Windows tray clock (in the bottom right corner of your screen), but it’s most definitely the coolest I’ve ever seen. It’s an atomic clock, which means it automatically sets your computer clock to match your choice of atomic clock time servers on the web. You can also choose how often it adjusts your clock to match: hourly, every 3 hours, 12 hours, daily, every 3 hours, weekly. You may be noticing a trend here. I’ve only mentioned two features thus far and both are customizable by you, the end user. That’s the true power of this application: customization. You can also customize 12 or 24 hour time format; choose from 16 different languages; display seconds, date, day, week number; current time or computer uptime; whether or not to add a leading zero to the time; blinking time separator or not; even what to do when you click on the clock: switch between real time/upt

      Clocks
A man died and went to Heaven. As he stood in front of the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, "What are all those clocks?" St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie, the hands on your clock move." "Oh", said the man. "Whose clock is that?" "That's Mother Teresa's," replied St. Peter. "The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie." "Incredible," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?" St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abraham told only two lies in his entire life." "Where's my congressman's clock?" asked the man. "It's in my office. I'm using it as a ceiling fan!"

Fixing New vs. Antique Clocks and Vintage Watches and Antique Pocket Watches
In the world of clocks and watches and pocket watches, there is a very natural and historical time divide in the standardization and resulting ease of obtaining clock and watch and pocket watch parts to repair clocks or watches. This is true not only based on the age of the timepiece, but also for repairs for clocks and watches originally made within and between both Continents and individual countries. The two most important contributors to this dichotomy are 1. that European clocks and pocket watches have a much longer history of being produced, with much diversity both within and between countries of origin, and 2. USA Pocket Watch and early Clockmakers — e.g. Seth Thomas Clocks, Ridgeway Clocks, Howard Miller Clocks — starting production at least a century later in time, and most went to great lengths to standardize aspects of both early clocks components and parts for pocket watches (with companies such as the Waltham Watch Co., Elgin Watches, and the Hamilton Watch C

Outdoor Clocks - Time When You Need It
My, how time flies when you are having fun. Whether you are soaking up the sun or making a splash in the pool it's nice to know if it's time to apply more sun block or time to make some lunch. Sure you could bring your watch, but it might get wet and brake. So make life easier with an outdoor clock. If you prefer a sundial or a standard clock you'll find what you need by shopping online. Outdoor clocks come in wall, floor or sundial varieties. So you can use one, like art, to dress up a wall on your patio or give your garden an aged appeal. Some outdoor clocks measure more than time. They can tell you what the barometric pressure is, how warm it is and how much humidity is in the air. Your outdoor space won't be cluttered with multiple measuring devices with this two in one or three in one concept. In addition to these handy features, outdoor clocks also have bigger numbers. These large, bold digits on the face allow you to tell the time from a great distance whether you're in the

Grandfather clocks are meant to be seen and heard!
Currently I’m lusting after a beauty of a grandfather clock. A new Howard Miller one which usually retails for over $3,500 but it’s online for under $2,700. The sweetest part is that it, if I shop smart, I can get free shipping in the continental US. The grandfather clock Bombay-styled with an American cherry finish and is constructed of gorgeous hardwoods and veneers. Growing up, we had this great Seth Thomas wall clock. My mother told me it was a “banjo clock” and thought it could be strummed. It would chime the hour at night. To a kid, that sound meant everything was safe and under control. I think it was the consistency of the chime. When I got older, a teenager, the chime could be bad news. Three gongs and you’re in deep trouble.  With new Grandfather Clocks, Wall Clocks, Mantel Clocks and more, you can have automatic nighttime chime shut-off options but not for me. I want to hear the Westminster chime of a beautifully crafted grandfather clock. Com

Mantel Clocks Make Great Gifts - Whether Tabletop Clock, Desk Clock, Shelf Clock, Boudoir or Desktop Clocks
Mantel clocks, by whatever name, have been given as gifts for hundreds of years. Some of the earliest clocks were table clocks or bracket clocks and were made in England. Since the beginning of time in the history of clocks, clocks have been used as gifts - hundreds of years before the ages of atomic clocks and clip art clocks or telling time with screensavers or toolbars. The adaptation of clocks in societies around the world followed the pattern seen even today with new technology adapters - those who can both afford the high costs of the newest technology and want to be early adapters. Giant flat panel televisions, whether made by Sony or Panasonic or one of the other leaders in this area are illustrative of this trend of drastic price reductions (and many resulting “sales” and “discounts”) which continues today, though at a time scale that has been condensed perhaps 100-fold plus because of modern rapid advances in technology and innovation, and

Intel Wolfdale and Yorkfield launch clocks revealed
AS THE TIME of launch for new processors approaches, more and more interesting information starts to leak from Taiwan. Thanks to our friends at Au-ja.de, we hear that motherboard vendors are now testing 45nm Penryn processors. These tests are regularly done to prepare BIOS updates for motherboards that are already present, and to discover possible incompatabities - something that makers of Socket 775 motherboards are very well aware of. We hear that motherboard makers are in possession of four different processors of the Penryn generation: two Wolfdales and two Yorkfields. Wolfdale is a dual-core, single-die processor core with integrated 6MB of L2 cache, and the clock-speeds in play are 2.33 and 2.66GHz. Since these rely on the 1.33GHz FSB,the multiplier is set at 7x333 for the 2.33GHz part and 8x333 for the 2.66GHz one. Yorkfield is simply waht Conroe was to Kentsfield: two Wolfdale dies are placed onto single Socket 775 organic package - so the amount of L2 cache is

      Timeless Wall Clocks
In our rapidly changing world there is something timeless about wall clocks. Wall clocks are about more than telling time. They are something consistent in a world of change. Wall clocks, grandfather clocks and more are objects we come to cherish as part of our homes and lives. They are the special piece of furniture we know come storm or high wind will keep on chiming, they are part of our homes. With so many special wall and mantel clocks from Bulova Clocks, Ridgeway Clocks, Kieninger Clocks, and Seth Thomas Clocks I had a hard choice to fine a favorite clock, but I kept returning to a Howard Miller Aquarius Wall Clock. It had a brushed brass finish that gave that special combination of timeless and contemporary. It is special knowing a quartz battery operated clock will still be ticking after the storm has stopped all electricals as a reminder of the timelessness of quality craftsmanship.

Clocks Are More Than For Telling Time - They Have PERSONALITY!
Clocks today are subject today more than ever to the question of why we need them for telling time. Your cell phone, whether a new Iphone by Apple, a Smart Phone by Treo, or one of the contract give-away phones from major providers like Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile, all have the built in feature of time, frequently tied to the time of an atomic clock. Even a Sony PSP or a Nintendo DS Game System gives super accurate time. So why do people still want clocks, or even watches? The answer is fairly straightforward, particularly for clocks - whether grandfather clocks, wall clocks or mantel clocks - and wristwatches that are well made by established high-end brands. A timepiece in the history of clocks and watches has always been an extension on one’s personality, or one’s home decor or office ambience. Tourneau, one of the major retailers of watches, used to run an ad campaign selling watches cleverly talking about something like your “other face”. In the hist
