So this year's messiest contract negotiation finally has closure. Rocky Elsom has been released early from his contract, not as a trendy sabbatical - no, no, no - but on compassionate leave. Apparently only a few close friends know the reason for this compassion and if it's 'fair dinkum' then I wish the Rockstar all the best.
BUT, you'd have to have amnesia to forget that the whole Elsom - will.

Michael Clayton is an exceptionally film in many ways. First, there is George Clooney and he is just so right. He’s this suited fixer of a lawyer (they call him the janitor, who cleans up other’s legal mess) who lives in throes of personal disarray. Yet there’s something so kind and generous in those vagabond eyes. He’s a really beautiful man. There’s a strong eternal warmth and genuine-ness in his smile. Then there is the cold..the film is shot in a cold city, in cold weather and has some cold hearted characters. The film starts with a car blowing up on a lonely highway and is followed by shots of empty offices, dark streets, and lonely buildings. The fire that envelopes the car, does not bring warmth. The film involves you from the word go. The clues and the plot start piecing t
The movie Michael Clayton starring George Clooney has had a tremendous impact on me ever since I first watched it about 3 weeks ago. Reason being of course because I could relate profoundly to it, with the way how things are going with my own life, career-wise and also on a more personal level. [...]

I love slow burners. Michael Clayton confused me at first, and then once I had the story figured out, things went into another direction and George Clooney made me a believer. I was totally rooting for his character, and really hating the evil corporation.
The story, as I can think of it goes like this:

Editorial ReviewsGeorge Clooney's performance drives this tense corporate thriller from Bourne trilogy screenwriter James Gilroy, who makes his directorial debut here. Clooney is the eponymous "hero," a burnt-out lawyer who cleans up legal messes created by the clients of a large law firm. When a crisis materializes in the form of the firm's top shark (Tom Wilkinson) suffering an apparent meltdown while defending a shady chemical company from lawsuits, Clayton discovers not only a cover-up to deny payments to farmers injured by the company's products, but a chance to find some purpose in the face of his life's downward. Clooney (who also co-produced the film) brings soul and quiet determination to his beleaguered character, and there's excellent support from Wilkinson, Sydney Pollack (also

Michael Clayton is an in-house fixer at one of the largest corporate law firms in New York. A former criminal prosecutor, Clayton takes care of Kenner, Bach, & Ledeen's dirtiest work at the behest of the firm's co-founder, Marty Bach. Though burned out and hardly content with his job as a fixer, his divorce, a failed business venture, and mounting debt have left Clayton inextricably tied to the firm. At U/North, meanwhile, the career of litigator Karen Crowder rests on the multi-million dollar settlement of a class-action suit that Clayton's firm is leading to a seemingly successful conclusion. But when Kenner Bach's brilliant and guilt-ridden attorney Arthur Edens sabotages the U/North case, Clayton faces the biggest challenge of his career and his life.Genre: Drama / ThrillerActors: Geor
Starring: Tom Wilkinson, Michael O'Keefe Director: Tony Gilroy Product DescriptionAttorney Michael Clayton is a "fixer," the go-to guy when his powerful New York law firm wants a mess swept under the rug. But now he's handed a crisis even he may not be able to fix. The firm's top litigator in a $3-billion case has gone from advocate to whistleblower. And the more Michael tries to undo the damage, the more he's up against forces that put corporate survival over human life--including Michael's. George Clooney portrays Michael, backed into a career corner that offers little room to fight free in this suspense- and star-packed thriller written and directed by Tony Gilroy (writer/co-writer of the Bourne movie trilogy). Keep your eyes on Michael Clayton. He has some life-or- death decisions to m
Clayton is down with fever for the past two days and it's worrying me. He hasn't been himself and I can tell that he's uncomfortable and probably in pain. Usually he'll be actively playing even when he's down with a cold or under the weather but this time, he's been cranky, listless and teary. This is the time when I'll be feeling most frustrated and needing more patience than usual. It isn't always easy but there's no one to take care of his needs if I don't. So is being a mom an easy task, definitely a big 'no' for me.
Yesterday, I took Clayton out for a time of bonding in the mall. It was nice having lunch at Sushi Zanmai before heading to Isetan for some shopping. I had some vouchers that were expiring and it was a good excuse to go shopping with clayton!I decided to get him a LeapPad, which was also Clayton's gift from godpa Daniel. I could see that his eyes lit up when I told him that I was buying that for him. For a long time, I wanted him to have a LeapPad and I thought this was a good time, since he had started to talk so well and begin with some simple reading. So now, LeapPad Learning System has become his new toy... he woke up with LeapPad in mind, cut down his TV and rather spend time checking out his new learning system. As usual, I'm a little slow in uploading the pictures... will be posting soon!
How many of you know that it's hard to settle a toddler in a hairdressing salon? After much nagging from a persistent grandma, I took Clayton to the hairdresser for a haircut. It was a challenging experience. This fellow refused to sit down and I had to talk him into him, forced him to the chair and held him firmly. Whew! It was a good thing that the lady was so experienced with little heads and she finished the job in 5 minutes. I must say she did a great job and my boy looked cool now!
Just like all adults, little boys have their recreational hobbies too! Weekend is a special time for Clayton to enjoy a ride or two in the fun machines in the mall. Though it's a short ride of a couple of minutes, I enjoy seeing the smiles on his face - you can see that he's so happy! DH is the one who always think we shouldn't spoil him by hey, he's only a kid once. Moreover, he's not addicted to it or anything - he just wanna have fun? Why deprive a child of good, healthy fun?
Clayton is talking very well these days and what's nice is that I'm beginning to see him display his emotions.. a very warm feeling for me.This morning, I hurt my finger and screamed aloud from the laundry area. He ran to me and asked, "Mama, is it painful?" I told him, "Yes" and he said, "I sayang" (malay term for 'love')... I handed out my finger to me and he stroke it with such gentleness.Isn't that sweet?
Few weeks ago, I found out that Clayton is reading the words on his flash cards and not from the pictures. Initially, I thought it was something to do with familiarity but I was wrong. I started scribbling some words on a piece of paper and I was surprised that he could read in confidence.I'm not a supermom who wants him to be a superkid but at the rate he is going, I should stimulate him by doing more reading with him. I count this as a blessing. Good to know that he has a good balance of fun, play and reading.

This weekend is 'home alone' for Clayton and me. DH has gone to Ipoh and we have the whole house and car to ourselves! Yesterday was good fun for Clayton at Ikano. There was a Singapore tourism fair at the mall and they had a free train ride at the exhibition which became the main draw. For the 1st time, Clayton went up and town the train for a dozen times! Usually, he's only allowed once on those paid rides but since this one was free, we let him played as many times as he wanted. But I had to say the train ride was real fun for kids, I could see many happy children and adults at the fair. That was a real treat for my boy...
I just love a well-acted psycho-drama. Michael Clayton is a great example of this genre. The first half-hour of the movie is more confusing than enlightening, but it isn't boring. This movie does a great job of showing a believable range of emotions and life-like events, in a horrific situation.
The bad guys are bad, but believably human, and the good guys are good, but not all that good. The movie requires your close attention to detail, and patience, but the payoff is fantastic.
George Clooney does a great job, but for me the real standout is Tom Wilkinson. Tom did such a great job in the movie In the Bedroom. His character in Michael Clayton is so earnest, but obviously living a different reality than everyone around him. Wonderful performance.
This movie could wait for DVD -- there are few effects that require viewing it in the theatre. By the way, we went to Oak Harbor Cinemas to see this one, and we were less than thrilled with the movie-going experience. If
Spending the weekend out of town and coming back to the grind with a 3 day backup of work can really wreak havoc on the whole blogging schedule. (For the record, I went to Puerto Penasco aka Rocky Point to hang out, drink beer, drink tequila, watch the Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers concert, enjoy yet another sandstorm and sit at the border for close to four and a half hours. At least the sandstorm didn't hit until the day we left.)Anyway, I'm back and am two reviews behind schedule, the first of which, as you can tell from the title of this post, is Michael Clayton. Due to the whole "lots of work, not a lot of time" scenario, I'll attempt to keep them short and sweet, but somehow I know they'll end up being the same length as any other review I've done, thanks in no small part to rambling, incoherent prefaces such as this. On to the review...I read this line in another review of Michael Clayton, but it's good enough that it warrants my blatant stealing and reprinting here (I be

All this while, Clayton has never had a 'good' bicycle. DH bought him a cheap one that could hardly move when peddled as the bicycle was too light. Since he's so against buying Clayton a good one, I thought I would wait to get him a sturdy one later. But my close friend, Yarris, and her hubby from Singapore bought Clayton a nice-looking bicycle and you can imagine how delighted he was! His legs are long enough to ride the bike but would be better in a few months' time. Now, the bike is parked in my mom's house till DH brings it home in his car.(I can't publish the photos - blogger is down again !)
Not sure if this is a tradition among children in nursery but Clayton has been receiving birthday favours from his classmates. As a result of that, I was obligated to prepare birthday favours for his classmates in school too. I didn't think it was nice to prepare junk food or candy favors so I got each of them a colourful notepad. Clayton celebrated his birthday in class with his teacher (video coming up) and I was surprised that daddy bought him a train set from Pasar malam!(pictures coming up soon - blogger is not responding to my uploading!)
It's amazing how fast children learns things and how their little minds absorb information. Clayton has been watching Playhouse Disney and lately, there are snippets of recreation features showing children learning how to play golf and football. He has a stick at home that resembles a golf club so he would start hitting his golf balls at home. Daddy promises to buy a real one for him someday. Who knows, he may become a pro someday! Today is a day of family fun at the new Pavilion mall in town.. more reports coming up!

Stay tuned for a detail-packed report stemming from my 30-minute interview on Tuesday with Tony Gilroy on his directorial debut film “Michael Clayton,” which stars George Clooney, Sydney Pollack, Tom Wilkinson and Tilda Swinton. The film, which is produced by Clooney, Pollack and Steven Soderbergh, marks Gilroy’s first shot in the director’s chair. Going forward, we’ll be seeing more of him from that vantage point but likely only in films he also writes.Gilroy has written a slew of films including “The Bourne Ultimatum,” “The Bourne Supremacy,” “The Bourne Identity,” “Armageddon,” “The Devil’s Advocate” and “The Cutting Edge”. His father, Frank Gilroy, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, director and screenwriter.Despite an all-star cast in his first Hollywood go, Tony Gilroy said “Michael Clayton” was shot on a “very low budget” equatable overall just to Clooney’s typical bounty. Stay tuned for my full report on the interview.
CHICAGO – Don’t be fooled by its formulaic, Hollywoodspeak tagline.“The truth can be adjusted” is the “Michael Clayton” way of saying this film has rammed in a whole hell of a lot more than you might first presume and is about to blindside you with everything a picture-perfect Hollywood product should be.George Clooney in “Michael Clayton”.Photo courtesy of IMDbAn opulent, all-star cast as in “The Departed” sometimes yields the film of the year. At other times, the failure of that resolve can make financiers suicidal. In the case of “Michael Clayton,” writer/director Tony Gilroy weaves the commanding George Clooney, flawlessly fanatical (and sometimes streaking) Tom Wilkinson, tautly corporate Tilda Swinton and the always-on-top-of-his-game Sydney Pollack into a film that pays its weight in gold.Tom Wilkinson in “Michael Clayton”.Photo courtesy of IMDbExecutive producers Clooney, Steven Soderbergh, James Holt and Anthony Minghella either have it too easy or y

I think we'd all agree that the film industry is stagnating to a certain degree. It has been for years. By definition, the studios only commission flicks that follow set codes and conventions that they know will pretty much guarantee them success. The epitome of this is ANY film with Adam Sandler in. In this case our checklist would read: 1)dopey protagonist with a heart of gold 2)his struggle as a result of his good nature/bad luck 3)several moments where the viewer thinks the plot can only end in the worst possible way 4)concluding triumph against that adversity. It's boring. It's stale. It's occasionally humorous, but it doesn't break any boundaries, because it doesn't dare to. Now, I'm not saying that Michael Clayton is a film that shatters the expectations of Hollywood or creates itself a sub-genre, but It's a breath of fresh air from some of the turgid action/dramas that dare to change absolutely nothing from a formula laid out almost since the dawn of cinema.

Nothing is more rewarding than to hear Clayton sing a new song each time, especially if it's Mandarin. I'm glad he can sing in tune and is definitely not tone deaf - lol. Every night, we will read his favourite chinese book together and revise a song or two. He's been sleeping earlier these days so that's wonderful for me!
Many companies today, especially those in the retail and food industry, successfully operate as franchisees of established brands. Franchising proved very effective and over the decades grew into one of the most attractive and rapidly developing business models in the world. Why? Because franchise companies are pretty quick to start up: no need to invest tons of money into brand development, methodology, business approach, advertising and training - all these items are supplied by the franchiser.
It takes quite a bit of time, talent and strategic thinking to get your franchise company up on rails. Apart from a strong brand, highly disciplined management and impeccable business process your franchisor ambition must be backed by a reliable chain of suppliers & fulfillment experts. As a franchisor you will have to keep stock of a whole bunch of products for promotional & brand enhancement needs. Here is a short list:

It's the first day of the one week school holidays for Clayton and as usual, I am left with very little time for my own work. Being a full time work-at-home mom and managing the household responsibilities is a tiring task. Today, I'm so annoyed with the kitchen faucets in my kitchen. For the past few weeks, it has been been leaking and sometimes, I will be all wet when it sprays on my shirt. Clayton enjoys his 'water play' session when that happens and guess who has to clean up the mess?Where is daddy?
Oh, I really like this poster. Such a distinctive image, it immediately stands out. And the use of this tagline together with the out of focus image of George Clooney is very, very clever, and it give us a good feel for what the film is going to be like and the general themes it will approach. This is an example of big letters done right: short sentence, easy to read and related to the rest of the image.
And I love that they managed to use the face of the star in a creative way. More of that, please!
Andrew over at Movie Patron blog says this reminds him of a book cover. Me too, although in the book the red letters would probably contain the title. Now, not all good book covers would make for a good poster. But I think this design would work in both mediums. Which makes it even more interesting.

Did I ever mentioned that Clayton loves vegetables? Yes, I am so thankful and blessed. I have heard so much stories of how parents have to bribe their kids to eat their greens...Ahhh......what is this?munch... munch.. munch
Clayton is enjoying every bit of school in the last few months. He has been coming home with his craft work and colouring sheets. I often hear him singing to a tune and sometimes, he will be telling me about his friends. He's talking alot these days and could recognize every letter, number, animal, fruit, vegetable, vehicle...etc. I saw these animal masks and thought he would like them for his semester thematic party. He doesn't like anything over his face so I'm really not sure if he would wear them. But they are so cute. Check them out if you have little ones at home.
I hate to say it, but I think Uncanny X-Men is probably the best thing Ed Brubaker's writing right now. It's a big fat space adventure with some sci-fi standards and lots of continuity, none of which I knew, and it's not afraid of being too serious, at least in terms of the reading experience.I'm not sure if Brubaker was having fun or just cashing a check, but The Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire is stress-relieving, it's so enjoyable. The worst thing about it are the fill-in issues, when Clayton Henry takes over and Brubaker does his fill-in issue thing. He's started doing this thing at Marvel, when his main artist gets busy, there's a fill-in. In Shi'ar Empire, it's Clayton Henry doing the story of Vulcan (who the X-Men are chasing). These issues range in quality--the first being the worst, the second the best, the third (and fourth, maybe, I can't remember how many there were, probably three) being a little blah. Some of the fault is Henry's art in the first one, thoug
