      50x365 #224: Clarke
We three came to your house to shoot a film scene. While we lay about in your garden, arranged seashells, smoked beedies, and watched the light, you regarded me warily, your dark eyes unreadable behind your heavy beard. Still, you offered me dandelion wine at dusk, so there was that.I am a participant in x365.This site needs a new laptop. Help me do it! See site for details.

An impressive performance is made even more so upon the confession of DiMeola, who states these 3 virtuosos have not performed the material together yet. The trio performs 7 songs together and each has their own solo in the middle, making this performance a must-have for any jazz aficionado. In their first concert

Margi Clarke looks set to return to Coronation Street as Tyrone's mum, jailbird Jackie Dobbs.A Coronation Street source told Digital Spy: “Margi’s return is heavily penciled in but she’s not signed her contract yet. Ken Clarke to propose a dog's dinner for England!
The West Lothian Question has been asked again. The Conservatives are thinking like mad, especially those in the Democracy Task Force set up by David Cameron. But I fear they've failed to make good grades. No straight A's coming from Ken Clarke. He's implacably opposed to an English Parliament. "We've got one!", he says, meaning the Houses of Parliament at Westminster. This Victorian pile is the British Parliament, build to glorify the political embodiment of the Empire. It is not an English parliament. So we will get, as The Daily Telegraph reports, a compromise between those who want English votes for English laws and those who would leave things be (undemocratically so, but they wouldn't mind!). Legislation affecting only England, an education Bill, for instance, would receive a second re

Charles Clarke sizes up the likely stalking horses
Charles Clarke was one of New Labour's beleaguered Home Secretaries. Letting criminals loose by mistake, getting into a muddle over terrorist's human rights and generally bluffing his way out of trouble. He's been a bit quiet of late, but then he's a bit like a volcano. Get a rumble going and he could erupt. Now he's apparently checking out the runners and riders in the stalking horse stakes. According to The Independent, an informative MP says that "Charles has the names". Names of those who would sign up in order to trigger a ballot for a leadership contest. Of course, Clarke denies all this, but then he would, wouldn't he? The MP kindly added that either Mr Clarke or another MP with "nothing to lose" would stand as a way of gauging opinion in the Labour Party. As Jon Snow put it to Brown

Arthur C Clarke, the science-fiction author, has died at 90. One of my favourite Sci-Fi authors - I liked his work because he never lost the human dimension. Clarke's books were about fallible human beings learning to adapt to changed circumstances created by logic and his imagination. For me, that was always deeper than the approach taken by other authors trying to imagine technology developing far enough to become proto-human. Others will comment on his other achievements - such as the invention of geostationary satellites, and the scope of his contacts and writing. I'll leave it there. Arthur's work was prescient, and he well understood the symbiotic relationship between Science Fiction, and that of Science, Technology, and Innovation: I'm sure we would not have had men on the Moon if it had not been for Wells and Verne and the people who write about this and made people think about it. I'm rather proud of the fact that I know several astronauts who became astronauts through reading my books. Clarke set to be next skipper
MICHAEL Clarke has firmed in the race to be Australia's next Test skipper after former national coach John Buchanan yesterday urged selectors to fast-track his leadership ambitions. Golden-haired boy Clarke, 26, was anointed as his country's next leader before he had even played a single Test and Buchanan insists he is the clear favourite and the right man to take over when Ricky Ponting retires. But Buchanan feels Clarke must be given a taste of captaincy - either by taking over from Simon Katich as New South Wales skipper or by being given more of a leadership position within the Australia team. "As I look at it, Michael Clarke is the person being groomed for the Australian captaincy," Buchanan said. "What needs to happen is we actually need to see him in that role. That might mean he captains his state side or takes more of a leadership position within the Australian team. "Michael needs to be given roles in terms of captaincy or vice-captaincy in certain (Aust

      Embroidery Ilusions by Gary Clarke
Para nuestros lectores de habla inglesa transcribimos la contraportada: Embroidery worked on transparent organza stretched over a Frame creates the llusion of stitchery suspended in air—as it embroidered on glass. The shadow cast by the embroidery onto the background completes the illusion. Despite the apparent complexity of the work, the stitching techniques required are surpisingly straightforward, being limited in the main to simple stab stitch forms. Several of the designs incorporate shadow back

      Mangold/Nugent/Clarke Return To Ohio
Current Jets and Ohio State alumni C Nick Mangold, K Mike Nugent and G Adrien Clarke are all returning to Ohio to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Dan Leberfeld of Jets Confidential did a quick interview with Mangold in which he discusses growing up as a Bengals fan and how big his guest list will be at Paul Brown stadium for Sunday’s game. While on the subject of guest lists, Mike Nugent bought 62 tickets for the game for family and friends of his. Nugent’s parents are reportedly pretty serious about tailgating and are looking forward to Sunday. …Hope he doesn’t miss a field goal or two like past weeks in front of his 62 guests…

I’m found on Facebook, am I playing with kids on WoW? and Clarke’s Firstborn so far
A cousin of mine has found me on Facebook and was she underwhelmed by my page. She found no pictures and one friend. A bit pathetic. I stumbled around my Facebook page and uploaded a couple of pictures, both of which were probably too small. I don’t really get the Facebook thing. It does seem very open. Seems that you publish everything about yourself for everyone to see. Hmmm… Talking about stumbling, I’ve managed to get to level 27 on World of Warcraft and am battling away in Duskwood with all its ghouls, flesh eaters, plague spreaders and other horrible creatures and it’s not easy as there’s never anybody else about to party with. This means I am having the devils own job of completing quests in Duskwood. Suppose I could just abandon those quests and hack away at the creatures in the Redbridge Mountains where there are more other players. Yesterday I asked someone to invite me to their party and the leader said no. They were all level 18-20’s. I

Arthur C. Clarke’s Firstborn unleash a quantum bomb, get out of that
Got the review copy of Arthur C. Clarke’s (and Stephen Baxter’s) new novel ‘Firstborn’. The Firstborn were the mysterious builders of the black monolith, in the 2001 film and book, and the accompanying introductory letter with the book states the Firstborn “are seeking to stop the advance of human civilization by employing a technology indistinguishable from magic”. Inneresting. It goes on to say “Now, the Firstborn are back. This time, they are pulling no punches: They have sent a quantum bomb speeding toward Earth. It is a device that human scientists can barely comprehend, that cannot be stopped or destroyed - and one that will obliterate Earth”. Entertainment Weekly says “Clarke and Baxter have mastered the art of saving the world in blockbuster style. But will the world survive when it confronts the Firstborn face-to-face?”. Sounds like I have found something to read that will stop me playing WoW. An agent has phoned abou

Stumbling through WoW and Arthur C. Clarke’s Firstborn
Just seen a demo of Halo 3 and the graphics were great. Smashing aliens in the 25th Century. A friend of mine got it on Tuesday and finished it the following Sunday. Not sure how much value for money he got there. When I mentioned WoW he said he’d never played it but had a couple of friends that have and said ‘they’ve never come out the other side’, and that’s after playing for two years. Jeez, this is gonna be a long trek. And I struggled to get to level 17 for heaven’s sake. I was playing it the other day and had this quest down a horrific mine. I had been down there twice before and both times got killed within 5 minutes. It seems people are actually nervous about going down there, well I was. Anyway I went down there with loads of other fully tooled up players almost all of who were a much higher level than me and what fun that was. We were battling thru this mine for half an hour and you wouldn’t believe the torrent of weaponry unleashed o

Sick Michael Clarke defies the odds
Sick Michael Clarke defies the oddsOctober 1 : Australia's decision to travel with a team doctor for the first time in 20 years paid off immediately as a stomach bug floored Michael Clarke in the hours leading up to his century on Saturday. Clarke reportedly woke at 1am on the morning of the match severely ill and only an intense course of medication allowed him to play.Clarke showed few signs of the illness as he compiled 130 at nearly a run a ball at Bangalore, although his good work was partly wasted as rain washed away Australia's hopes of victory. Without help from the doctor John Orchard, the Australians believed Clarke would not only have missed the Bangalore game but potentially Tuesday's match at Kochi as well."I was certainly giving him [Orchard] a high five when Pup got his hundred," Adam Gilchrist, the stand-in captain, told the Daily Telegraph . "Pup was up all night with gastro and without a medical professional there is no way he would have played."The Australian repo

      Clarke impresses with ton
Australian fans enjoyed Michael Clarke's highest ever ODI score Michael Clarke hit a strong130 before Australia's first one-day clash with India was brought to a premature end by rain in Bangalore. The New South Wales batsman's highest one-day score from his 113 matches laid down a marker for the remaining four day-night fixtures in the series.Initially it had been India who seized the upper hand with the early wickets of Andy Gilchrist (12) and Brad Hodge (0), leaving Australia on 18-2.Clarke put on 60 for the third wicket with Matthew Hayden before Shanthakumaran Sreesanth bowled Hayden for the second of his three wickets. When Andrew Symonds departed shortly afterwards, Australia were in trouble on 90-4.But Clarke and Brad Haddin (69) continued at a steady five an over for 144 stabilising runs before the latter fell attempting to raise the pace.A 25-ball 37 from James Hopes took Australia to 307-7 from their 50 overs, with Sreesanth's 3-55 the pick of the bowling.Seventeen ball

      Susanna Clarke PT 2
I’m back in the house now after quite an unsuccessful attempt to liveblog; it did turn out in the end that the event was a phone no go zone which I was, truth be told, expecting. I think I knew it was going to be an interesting evening when I, smelling of wet velvet courtesy of a downpour on route, entered the theatre bar to the strangest gathering of different people I’ve ever seen in one place. And I often drink in Camden so that’s no small feat. The discussion began with Neil looking far more chirpy than I would have thought possible given he was in Japan only a few days ago and Susanna looking well (a relief given that she has been unwell). We were however advised that she wouldn’t be signing due to her health which although a shame everyone was very understanding about. In fact the biggest take away for me (a phrase I hate and cannot believe I just used) was how understanding and nice all the fans were all evening. A short to and fro about the origins of th

Users lucky to get any data on their reports & a new novel from Arthur C Clarke
The project have a culture of not fixing some bugs, for instance reports, ever. They are just low priority and will never get fixed. How many decisions are made by users out in the wild from the wrong data on reports. Maybe it is best to let sleeping dogs lie. If you suddenly tightened up the reports and they all started to show correct data it might cause a whole load of trouble to the end users when the new reports show wildly different data than before. And of course they mustn’t point the developers at too many of their defects in case it upsets them and they find other employment, then the company is in a state. I’m not sure I like working for small companies. Had a meeting which didn’t actually happen. After 10 mins it was canned. I said to one of the developers how many man-minutes were lost there then? His answer was ‘then you have to multiply that by the number of people in the room’. According to Amazon Arthur C Clarke has a new book out just after Christm

Australia hungry for another trophy - Clarke
Michael Clarke says Australia are approaching the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship with enormous confidence and are eager to annex another trophy after their recent World Cup triumph. "I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of playing in the inaugural Twenty20 championship and I'm certain we can bring home the trophy," Clarke told journalists in Johannesburg during an ICC conference call from Sydney."In a game of such a short amount of overs, one player can win the match, whether it be in batting, bowling or fielding. We have a lot of talent, a lot of guys who can win a game on their own."Clarke is one of those players who can be a match-winner in all three departments and after making merry in the World Cup, he is looking forward to providing more entertainment in South Africa. He said Twenty20 cricket was the most instinctive form of the game.

Clarke Getting Comfortable At Left Guard
Dave Hutchinson of the Star-Ledger writes about new Jets left guard Adrien Clarke and his progress with the team and improvement as he becomes the likely starter for the team if the Jets decide to move Pete Kendall. Clarke has experience playing alongside Jets center Nick Mangold as he was a teammate of Mangold at Ohio State. Clarke on the opportunity to start at left guard… “It’s definitely a great opportunity. Outside of everything else that’s going on, to get the reps and learn the system. … Not only that, but to get a chance to be with the guys, build up the camaraderie with the guys, it’s great. I’m very excited.” Clarke on the working with Mangold again… “It feels like we never skipped a beat. Nick has been great. All of them have. I don’t know yet what I can add to my game or this team. I just do what I can. … It feels great to see not only Nick, but Anthony Schlegel and Mike Nugent (both also attended O

Jets SS Rhodes in Line For New Deal; Clarke to Start at LG
Jets safety Kerry Rhodes, on the verge of perennial All-Pro status, has visibly outplayed his rookie deal. He has two years left at the minimum salary, and it makes sense to lock him up with a long-term deal before his asking price hits the roof, but that could be a "sticky" situation. The Jets are telling upset LG Pete Kendall they won’t re-do his current contract because it has more than one year remaining. If they turn around and give Rhodes a new extension, it will open some eyes in the locker room. Rhodes Situation: This disruptive, (5 sacks) strong hitting (3 forced fumbles and 2nd leading tackler), ball hawk (4 Int's and 13 PD's) out of Louisville is the Jets second best defensive playmaker next to All-Pro LB Jonathan Vilma. At 6-foot 3, 210 pounds, Rhodes was a late, fourth pick in '05, stepping in right away, starting at Strong Safety. He recorded 106 tackles in his rookie year and continued to progress last season. I would be surprised if he does not make the

Photo by: D. Clarke EvansSPURS WIN AGAIN!The Spurs beat the Cavs 103-92 to take a 2-0 series lead. The Spurs came out strong and LeBron got two fouls early to help them out. Tony Parker was fantastic and the Cavs need to find a way to stop him. Eric Snow was the only one who might be able to slow him down; look for him to play more minutes in game 3.The good news for the Cavs is that they had a good come back in the 4th quarter to carry over to game 3. They cut the lead to eight at one point on a 30-14 run. I don't know if this is good for the Spurs or the Cavs. Gregg Popovich is going to tell the Spurs everything they need to do better before he gives any praise for good play.Cleveland has to stop Tony Parker to win a game. Tony gets everyone going it seems and stopping him would give the Cavs less of a running team. Parker gets the Spurs to run. The big three have been hitting the Cavs for lots of points every game; how about making the role players score more? If Robert Horry had

Vehige: Arthur C. Clarke, and a Confession
As I noted a few days ago, I've decided to read the sf novels that won the Hugo and/or Nebula Awards. Since I'm doing this with an eye to writing sf myself, I cleared the table: I'm reading every novel, even those I've already read. The exception to this rule is Joe Haldeman's Camouflage (a so-so novel, I thought) because I'd read it for the first time only a few weeks ago. But other than that, I'm starting from scratch.I decided to begin this project with Arthur C. Clarke's Rendezvous With Rama -- a novel I'd read before, and one that I didn't much care for. If I didn't like it the first time, why did I start with it?It's simple, really: I know more about sf today than I did when I first read Rama several years ago. I have a better understanding of the difference between hard sf and soft sf -- what their conventions are, and what readers expect from them. Rama is hard sf, and when I first read it I hadn't had that much experience with the genre. Since Clarke (along

Houston's Newest Rap Duo - The Clarke Boyz + New Video - "Workin' Dat" (Video)
It’s no secret that the South has been dominating and holding down the music scene for a minute now. From the North side to the South side, Houston has the best kept hidden talent that keeps it coming. For the newest inclusion to the Houston rap scene, I would like to introduce to you, the Clarke Boyz. Not having a major deal is not slowing down this 2 man group, who is quietly forging ahead and hitting the road doing shows with major acts like Jim Jones, Lil Wayne, and opening for R&B songstress, Mya in Atlanta next month.Hailing from Hiram Clarke, (south Houston, hence the name) the Clarke Boyz are already making some noise, with their first debut album through 20/20 Productions/610 Entertainment, distributed by BCD Music Group, titled “TRUNKK MUSIKK”.
