I've been meaning to cook with quinoa for quite some time. I bought a small amount of it in the bulk bin at Whole Foods a few weeks ago and hadn't gotten around to trying it out. With my recent focus on eating healthier, I figured it would make for a nice light supper along with some roasted veggies.
It's as though quinoa is becoming more popular as I'm seeing it popping up on more blogs. I
All we know that citrus fruits are very healthy. They are said to have the power to fight life-threatening diseases such as cancer, obesity, and high cholesterol. In this post, I only write about the benefit of citrus fruits for weight loss: burn fat and suppress appetite. Citrus Fruits help to burn fatCitrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, lemons, and limes contain high concentrations of Vitamin C (this is also called ascorbic acid). This Vitamin C has a fat burning quality.Vitamin C reduces the effectiveness of fat. It reduces its content and can liquefy or dilute fat. By diluting the fat, it makes it less effective, and easier to flush out of your system. Vitamin C also works on cholesterol deposits. Vitamin C can help burn out the cholesterol, hence, making it difficult

I have really always loved Squirt. You would think Mountain Dew was my favorite soda growing up given my penchant for caffeine, but Squirt always won me over with the fresh grapefruit taste. Well now Squirt has relaunched with a new brand extension, Squirt Citrus Power. This is Cadbury Schweppes/7Up’s answer to Mountain Dew and Vault and will prove to be formidable competitor. At first I thought

Just when you thought that you were buying nice, happy, not chemically laden, better for the earth products, here comes this news. Turns out that a study released by the Organic Consumers Association revealed a toxic carcinogenic contaminant called 1,4 Dioxane (no, I don't know why there is a comma between the numbers) is in many popular brands of body washes, dish soap, and lotions that are labeled "natural" and "organic". And up until now, the presence of this toxin in these products has been undisclosed. So no matter how good you were about checking labels for ingredients, you would never have known this was in anything. Great.Interestingly, products that were certified USDA organic did not contain this toxin, whereas many products that are not certified organic did contained it.

So I’m crawling through the jungle, enemies around me on all sides and I’m bone weary. I have been trekking through the tropics for days dragging my injured compatriot behind me through the damp soil. Here's my entry for the Royal Foodie Joust!Ginger-Lime Tofu with Citrus Marmalade Glaze, Coconut Quinoa with Pink Peppercorns, Orange Balsamic Chard and Radish GreensI'm so pleased with this menu, because they compliment each other so well. The delicate flavour of the quinoa counterbalances the citrus kick of the tofu, and the greens had a smooth, almost creamy texture from the radish tops. The tofu was wonderful in itself, with the texture very akin to pork, and even the color was spot on. I find that red wine and tofu cooked together in most forms makes for a good substitute for heavier meats in recipes. My fiance said that it reminded him very much of a gourmet version of orange beef he used to get at Chinese restaurants, and he gobbled up everything left in the pan, including the leftov

Lemon tarts were a favourite and I have a grand aunt who is in her late seventies who made this for me whenever I visited her once a year. So when I read this month’s challenge I was all excited but pushed it to the very last week of the month. This month’s challenge hosted by Jen was a Lemon Meringue Pie. The challenge requested for a lemon filling and a meringue topping. A mountainous topping, when cooked briefly browns the outside and is a delicious covering for most pies..loved by many but not by me. A pie usually consists of a case with a deep filling and then covered by pastry, whipped cream, meringue and so on. A tart on the other hand has a shallow case and filling and the latter is rarely covered entirely. The pastry shell of the crust dough was delicious and I flavoured it wit

Q: You are posting about homes that are in Dunnellon. I thought Dunnellon was in Marion County, not CitrusA: Yes and Yes.Part of Dunnellon is in Marion County, and part of Dunnellon is in Citrus County. Dunnellon shares a zip code and a phone exchange with Citrus Springs, which is in Citrus County. Dunnellon has been an established town since the 19th century, where Citrus Springs celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2006. Citrus Springs was an unincorporated area between Dunnellon, Holder, and Beverly Hills prior to its inception.Interesting facts: If you have satellite or cable television and live in Citrus Springs, your local networks will be Tampa stations. Does drinking a small quantity of citrus juice in the morning jump start your metabolism? The simple answer is no.
Although the basis of this dieting myth is elusive at best, it is possible that its creator heard about the new Ephedra substitute, synephrine, found in the outer peel of Citrus aurantium also known as the Seville orange or bitter orange.

It’s quite easy to make your own toothpastes. If you just have the main ingredients to anything you can make it yourself right in your very own kitchen. Think about it. The main ingredients in peanut butter is what? Peanuts and oil and possibly a dab of sugar. Well, there you go. Smash the peanuts, add oil as needed to make it creamy, then add sugar to taste. Or go sugar-free. That’s it.
That’s about the same concept to toothpastes, shampoos, and evey hairsprays. All you need is the basic ingredients and you’re set.
To make the Minty-Citrus Toothpaste you need these basic ingredients:

2 teaspoons sea salt
4 tablsepoons vegetable glycerin (can be found at hobby stores or health-food stores everywhere)
20 drops peppermint essential oil
20 drops lemon essential oil
20 drops orange essential oil
10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
Mix all the ingredients together throughly in a small bowl. Be sure to use a woode

This is my neighbour Larry's favourite pound cake which he asked me to make on the weekend. It's very moist and rich with a nice citrusy glaze. I especially like it because I'm partial to almond paste. Looks much nicer when you bake it in a decorative pan, as above.Lemon Glazed Almond Pound Cake3/4 cup sifted cake flour1/2 tsp baking powder1/8 tsp salt1 tsp lemon zest5 large eggs, at room temperature1 cup granulated sugar8 ounces (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperatureCitrus Glaze3 tbsp lemon juice3 tbsp orange juice3/4 cup granulated sugarPosition rack in lower 1/3 of oven. Preheat to 350 degrees F. Generously grease the bottom and sides of a 8 1/2 inch tube pan or a 7 to 8 cup decorative baking pan. Dust wiyj flour, tilt to evenly coat and tap off the excess.Pour the flour, baking powder and salt in that order into a triple sifter. Sift onto a sheet of waxed paper to distribute the ingredients evenly and set aside.Grate the lemon and orange rinds for zest (no pith)and set
The DeLonghi Indoor Grill utilizes an embedded heating element to deliver heat evenly throughout its cooking surface. Both grill pan and drip tray are coated with a non-stick surface, which means foods won't stick and cleanup is easier.

Within the first minute of Citrus', Asobi Seksu shows more ambition and more character than the entirety of their wholly unexceptional debut. That album hinted at this band's instrumental talent and ability at sustaining mood through the highlights in Sooner', It's Too Late' and particularly Stay'. But for the majority of that album, Asobi Seksu just seemed merely content to work in the collective shadow of My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Ride and their ilk that their shoegaze aesthetics sounded way too run-of-the-mill to be regarded with any interest or enjoyment.
For sure, Yuki Chikudate and colleagues are still indebted to these bands, but Asobi Seksu now has a personality. And it's a loud one: there's so much reverb and thrashing guitar effects on practically every track that initial listens will give the impression of a weaker latter album half just out of sheer redundancy. But stick with it.
Chris Zane (Les Savy Fav), introduces the album with his luminous pro
It's hard to not like a good-looking, female-fronted, Brooklyn-based band whose name translates loosely as "playful sex." The obvious vocal comparisons are to shoegazers and goths of twelve to thirty years ago—Siouxsie, Spirea X, Lush, Kate Bush, and the Cocteauu Twins. Singing in Japanese and English, vocalist Yuki's heavily reverbed voice is sensual and strong at the same time. But there's more of a manic, vaguely garage band energy evident on Citrus, the group's sophomore release (a vast improvement over their scattered debut). It's clear now that they're far closer to Blondie than My Bloody Valentine or Loop. The band has a woozy sound, but it's also tightly controlled and highly melodic, propelled by Interpol-ish bass lines. It's not "original" music, but it is very pleasant stuff, the ideal soundtrack to a hot affair in some futuristic hotel tucked away downtown, or out near the airport.

When I saw this recipe I tried to picture in my mind, what it would taste like. The orange juice and honey reminded me of a coleslaw I had at a restaurant about a year ago that I've never been able to duplicate. I thought this might be the one so I was excited to try it. Sadly, it wasn't. It wasn't even close.
This recipe was not a hit in our home. The kids tried it (they have to - we have

I have returned from a great weekend in Montreal. It was nice to hook up with a few old friends, attend the wedding of two of my favorite people and visit a few old haunts. One of them, Restaurant Français Chez La Mère Michel I highly recommend for both the consistent quality of food and the ambience. Oh, let's not forget the extensive wine list, too -- in excess of 7,000 from which to choose! Andre's mother made Poutine Bourguignonne. Poutine always evokes consumption remorse and I'm always reminded why I only have it once every five years or so. Still, it's so good at the time! I over indulged, hence the recipe for today -- salad! Ingredients: 2 cups grated soap 1/2 cup water 6 vitamin E capsules 1 T. ground dried lemon verbena leaves 1 T. dried lavender buds 10 drops lavender oil 20 drops sweet orange oil Steps: Melt soap with water. After it has melted, add vitamin E oil and remaining ingredients. After the soap has cooled and thickened, scoop out a small handful of the soap and roll into a ball. Flatten the ball to create a disk shape. As the soap cures, press the soap into a firmer and smoother shape. If you like, mix a little orange oil on your hands and polish the soap smooth. This soap will discolor if the lavender buds are added too soon to the melted soap. If you do not like the rough surface and the darkened color, omit the lavender buds and add extra lavender oil. Or, after a week of curing, you can slice thin shavings from the soap to smooth it and remove any dark patches.

Summer being the Season of the Grill I'm posting my favorite marinade. Good on chicken or kabobs it's got a great blend of chili, cumin, garlic, cilantro and lime while keeping the chicken moist and tender. And as an added bonus, I'll often save some of the marinade and use it to cook a side of risotto--pictured here with a sprinkling of feta on top--to give the rice a nice kick.1 tablespoon mild chili powder1 tablespoon paprika2 teaspoons ground cuminjuice and zest from one orange (though I'll use other juices in a pinch, such as passion-orange-guava or mango)juice from three limespinch of sugar8-10 garlic cloves, minced1 bunch of cilantro, coarsely chopped3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil4 tablespoons of pineapple juice (optional)salt and freshly ground pepper to taste6 boneless skinless chicken breastsMix up all the ingredients for the marinade (everything but the chicken) in a large plastic Ziploc freezer bag then add the chicken and shake to coat. This raspberry sorbet recipe combines fresh raspberries, orange juice, lemon juice and Grand Marnier to create an amazing sorbet you will want to keep all to yourself. Nevertheless, I did make a double batch for a potluck at work several years ago and received many compliments and an empty container.
Each ingredient in this recipe has a job to do. The lemon juice promotes the taste of freshness while the orange juice softens the tartness of the raspberries. To finish it off, the Grand Marnier adds complexity to the finish while keeping the sorbet on the soft side in the freezer. This is definitely the best raspberry sorbet I have ever had.
This recipe is based heavily on the raspberry sorbet recipe from Lou Seibert Pappas’ book, Sorbets and Ice Creams: and Other Frozen Confections. I highly recommend this book; all the recipes have ingredient lists you could count on one hand, with the word “fresh” preceding nearly every ingredient. I have slightly upped the Grand Mar

The requirements for the Citrus County SHIP program have recently been revised. Due to the overwhelming demand, potential applicants must be a resident of Citrus County for twelve continuous months in order to apply. Also, the program was open to both low and moderate income households, and has now been revised to solely serve very low and low income households. What is the SHIP Program? The Citrus County SHIP program provides help for first time home buyers with lower incomes that meet certain requirements.
