For some reason this amendment has been a source of controversy for many years. I really can't imagine why. As with anything our founding fathers wrote, they left us proof that tell us how they wanted us to proceed and what exactly they meant. I am honored to be one of the 25 participants this year in the City’s Citizen Leadership Academy. It’s an 8 week course on the inner workings of government. It has been an amazing and eye opening opportunity. Last night was one of our most interesting classes. The criminal justice system was the topic. We met at the Regional Justice Center for a tour of the justice courts, the Supreme Court, prisoner holding cells, and then took a field trip to the Las Vegas Jail. I’ve tried and mostly succeeded my whole life in staying away from anywhere that lawyers, police and bad guys hang out. I've conducted more than 1,000 interviews with people who were successful in their jobs, who retired from leading companies after distinguished careers. Almost without exception, when these older people look back, they say the same things-things that are instructive and useful for the rest of us as we make decisions going forward in our lives.   Today the “flying Imams” dropped their lawsuits against the concerned citizens that reported their extremely suspicious behavior aboard an airplane. They have not dropped the lawsuit against the airline or it’s employees however.
