A pressing matter: cider-making in Herefordshire
Five or so years ago, cider drinkers were generally treated with the kind of uneasy suspicion normally afforded to plague carriers, teenage hoodies and over-friendly cousins. Thanks to the marketing efforts of Magners, Bulmers and their ilk, however, cider is acceptable again, even bordering on a discerning option for bar-hopping urbanites. Strongbow on tap? Sooo [...]

Apple Cider Vinegar It Tastes Horrible But It Sure Does Work!
Apple cider vinegar or ACV is an amazing potent detoxifier that has been shown to boost the immune response, sooth arthritis and joint pain, cure heartburn and help people with Fibromyalgia. ACV contains a chemical called Malic Acid (kinda like my name), which is an Aluminum detoxifier.  Aluminum is a horribly sneaky neurotoxin that has found it’s way into our cookware, food containers, toothpaste, anti-prespirants and vaccines.  This is a loaded topic that gets me very passionate.  I’ll post an article on toxins soon where I discuss the ill effects of aluminum. Take 1-3 tablespoons of ACV throughout the day and up the dose when you’re feeling ill and this simple cheap sauce will go to work healing your body!  It tastes great on salads too. Bottoms up!

      Apple Cider Vinegar and Euphoria
I may start trying this to see if it works.  After all there are some days where I just seem to get into a funk and just  don’t feel like doing anything at all. Sharon from Boston, MA discovered that Apple Cider Vinegar, baking soda, and cayenne produces an almost instantaneous state of euphoria! This is going to sound strange, but it makes me feel closer to the Universe (which is like saying closer to god for a Witch)   I don’t know how else to explain the sensation. This is what I do: 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, 1/8th teaspoon of baking soda and 5 shakes of cayenne pepper in a glass of hot water. Be careful not to stand too close to the glass after adding the cayenne or you will inhale it.  Sip slowly, stirring the cayenne every so often. When the drink cools down, add more hot water.  Drink on an empty stomach, if possible.   This might be good to try before morning coffee. I hope others will try it to and let me know if they are experiencing the same resu

      Pumpkin Cider + Milk Faces
Sleeping Pumpkin. Blurry, but I like it anyway. Future cat macros? I’ve taken to drawing faces of despair and terror on my milk. “Please don’t drink/kill me?” I have no idea why. But, as a side note, my Halloween costume is complete. HAHA. The cats are getting along great. Morn’s still a little grumpy, though it’s only been three days, and I can’t help but get a little stressed about it. On the first day he’d let me pet him but then get up and move away from me and lay down somewhere else. But yesterday he laid in the bedroom with Pumpkin, Jei and I. And he seems to follow Pumpkin all over. They eat together and this morning he seemed back to normal. Exposing his belly to me and begging me to scratch/pet him. I’m not as stressed about it now. Does everyone know what they will be for Halloween?

      Pumpkin Cider
Yesterday I adopted a kitten that I was going to rescue about a month ago from drowning. And by that I mean the people who had it were going to drown it, but then I reasoned that I just couldn’t do it. (This reasoning happened last month.) I couldn’t afford the $250 to get him fixed, shots, etc, and if he had something he could give it to Morn. It was just irresponsible when I had a cat already to take care of. So I told the girl to just take the kittens to Petsmart if she was really afraid of her father drowning the poor things. So I guess she did, because I walked in there and there he was. My face did that pucker, squint, try-not-to-go-aww- that it sometimes does and I looked at the sheet on his cage. All his brothers had been adopted and he was alone. He had been neutered and all his shots were up to date. Kind of sort of perfect, right? Well, meet Pumpkin Cider. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to name him Pumpkin, or Cider, so…

How to Make Your Own Cider
People here in Chicago stepped outside this week to falling leaves, (rapidly) cooling temperatures, and that crisp scent in the air that could only mean one thing: Fall is really here. And with the brisk weather, falling leaves, and Halloween decorations comes another fall staple: apple cider.Yes, cider! That sometimes clear, sometimes murky, dry-or-sweet-or tart libation that Americans drank by the gallon before beer came along and screwed everything up. Yet despite its seasonal charm, and despite a recent surge in popularity (no doubt thanks to my tireless efforts), for some people this drink is still hard to find. That's why I've put together this helpful guide. Whether you're like me and lament the downfall of hard cider as America's beverage of choice or you're thirsty for something different and our Beverages section holds no temptation, you'll find the information you need in here.At its core (no pun intended), cider-making is all about patience. Warm up with Red Hots cider this fall
Nothing screams autumn like a steaming cup of sweet, spicy cider on a crisp, chilly evening. Luckily for Candy Addicts, there’s a way for you to get both a cider fix and a candy fix at the same time with Red Hots cider. You don’t even need to measure anything. Photo by djking Here’s how you do it: Pour a jug of store-bought apple cider into a crock pot. Add a bag of Red Hots (a big bag if you’re craving something extra sweet and spicy, or a smaller amount if you want something more mellow). Let it heat slowly throughout the day, stirring occasionally to help the candies dissolve into the juice. This has the awesome side effect of filling your entire home with the cinnamon-infused scent of Red Hots - it’s better than any candle! If you’re feeling adventurous, expand the recipe by tossing in some of your favorite cider additives, like sliced oranges, cinnamon sticks and cloves - get as creative as you’d like. And if you’re a Candy Add

Apple Cider Vinegar - Magic Diet Elixir or Just A Bunch of Sour Apples?
Back in my college days a friend of mine was freaking out because he had been spending much time with his face in the bong and found out he'd have to take a drug test for pretty lucrative job opportunity. I'll be honest with you, as this was pre-Internet, I have no earthly idea where I had heard this, but I told him:"Dude, drink vinegar, I heard vinegar will make you pass a drug test."He took a quick sip out a bottle of wine vinegar and spit it out. "C'mon you've got to drink it, you want that job don't you.""Yes""I know, why don't you just do it like a shot. You'll barely taste it." So he grabbed a shot glass out of the cabinet, poured himself a shot of the vinegar, toasted me, did the shot and proceeded to vomit tuna fish salad sandwich all over the kitchen and I proceeded to laugh my ass off. I think he did pass that test, but it certainly wasn't from the vinegar.A few years later I caught a friend of mine at a party tippling from not a bottle of booze, but a bottle vinegar
