Churchill defeated Mohammedan Sporting Club 2 - 0 yesterday, in the group A league match. The goals were scored by Kalu Ogba and Jaison Vales, who came on as a substitute in 2nd half.Churchill dominated the match throughout and missed many chances to score. Mohammedan goalkeeper Tungshang was outstanding and saved MSC many times. The first goal came via Ogba on 52 minutes, who scored with an opportunistic move, pushing the ball past the goalkeeper. And, with 5 minutes remaining before the final whistle, Vales scored an easy goal thanks to Mboyo, who had dribbled past 2-3 players before handing it on a plate to Vales.Mohammedan also had a few chances, Nirapada missed two easy heading oppurtunities and Okero once got a chance inside the box but instead of moving forward, he hurriedly shot wid

Our new friend Churchill, the abandoned kitty with a broken leg, is having surgery today. The surgery is very complex and expensive. By: Michael RabinoviciGreat Speakers: Winston Churchill, my Aunt Milda, and You.In a recent study of people's ten greatest fears, public speaking ranked first, ahead of financial ruin and even death. But remember what one great speaker said about the only thing to fear being fear itself? It's true. Whether you're saying a few words at a dinner party or giving a speech at the United Nations, the same rules apply. While our Speaking Tips are not all obvious, they're all very simple. Taken together, they can help nearly anyone give a great speech. WHO'S OUT THERE? The single most important factor in giving a speech, no matter what the occasion, is this: Know your audience! If you don't know whom you're speaking to, then you run the risk of saying something inappropriate. So tailor your material accordingly. Your audience will determine what you say, how you say it, and the tone that you use when speaking. Don't doubt us on this one. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE Don't expect that

From American Rugby News: The International Rugby Board has confirmed that the New Zealand Maori will replace the Junior All Blacks in the 2008 IRB Pacific Nations Cup. The decision also means the Maori will not compete in the 2008 Barclays Churchill Cup. The move comes as a result of a review by the NZRU of the organization’s High Performance Strategy and will see the Maori compete alongside Fiji, Japan, Samoa and Tonga, as well as the Australia ‘A’ side.“The Junior All Blacks set the benchmark in the first two IRB Pacific Nations Cup tournaments, winning in 2006 and 2007,” said IRB head of rugby services Mark Egan. “However, the IRB understands the NZRU’s decision to replace the Junior All Blacks with the New Zealand Maori and is delighted that a team with such a global reputation will be joining the tournament in 2008.” The New Zealand Maori participated in the Barclays Churchill Cup in 2004, 2006 and 2007. "The Maori have been a great a
Was I expecting more from All-Flash #1? Maybe. I probably shouldn’t have been. Meant to bring the existing Flash series to the return of Wally West, it turns a four page story into a twenty-two page one… most of the scenes belong in other comic books, most notably Justice League of America and this issue’s epilogue certainly belongs in the first new Waid Flash.
Waid’s writing is very competent, his first person narration from Wally creates a great protagonist (so when the issue closes with Wally apparently giving it up, the development is a bad one–first person narration in mainstream comic books is omnipresent these days and sixty percent of it is horrendous, with thirty-eight percent being laughable). Except Waid’s most engaged with the newer Wally material, not the wrap-up stuff… so the midsection is incredibly lame. Is the Flash going to kill the bad guy? No. Is the Flash going to find something interesting to do with the bad guy? No. I

“I would like to have been examined in history, poetry and writing essays. The examiners, on the other hand, were partial to Latin and mathematics. And their will prevailed ... I should have liked to be asked to say what I knew. They always tried to ask what I did not know.”

As might be expected Ward Churchill, the controversial Colorado University professor who was recently fired, has fired back with both barrels. He is saying that his firing is nothing less than a witch hunt against free speech. What initially got Ward Churchill in trouble was a statement of his comparing the WTC victims to little Eichmans that pretty much got what they deserved. This statement was said and forgotten for a number of years until dug up by a journalism student and when repeated it started a firestorm around the tenured professor. Once the spotlight was shown on him though other, possibly questionable activities, started to swim to the surface. He had a number of paintings and writings that seemed to be almost identical copies of those made by others in years past. Research misconduct is an extremely serious charge and this has been leveled at him by a panel of his peers for his actions. When asked he said that he was not guilty of any wrong doing. Needless to say
Ward Churchill, the Boulder Colorado University professor that has been at the center of a storm of controversy for a number of years, has been fired. Initially it was the comments that Ward Churchill made about the victims of 9-11, calling them Little Eichmans and deserving of their gruesome deaths, that drew the attention of the country. Then other things started to percolate to the surface such as a painting he did that turned out to be a copy of another. Then his claims of minority status, of being a Native American himself, seemed to be in doubt. Upon closer public examination there appeared a long history of similar questionable conduct on the part of Ward Churchill but he was a tenured minority professor so people tended to look the other way. Here is a statement from Hank Brown President of Colorado University I found on their web site.Ward Churchill CaseStatement from University of Colorado President Hank Brown The University of Colorados most important asset is its ac
I am all fore freedom of speech. Without my basic right to speak what I think and feel will turn us into a modern day "1984". That being said I believe other people have the right to correct me when I am speaking foolishly and to disagree with me. Heck, I am a nobody with a little blog that a few people read. I don't have the power of a Ward Churchill who each year has hundreds of young minds eating out of his hands. I have been trying to think of a nice way to put my feelings on this buy, but I can't. The dude is a whacko and a fraud. And he finally has gotten fired from his teaching position at a prestigious college. A few of his more colorful claims are that he is a native american and part of elite forces in Viet Nam and the people who died in the Twin Towers were little Eichmann's. I don't have a problem being taught by people I disagree with because it is nothing new. I do have a problem with people giving false information and not being held accountable for it.
Churchill Reportedly Committed Deliberate Research Misconduct Involving Fabrication, Falsification, Improper Citation and Plagiarism The University of Colorado Board of Regents today voted to accept President Hank Brown’s recommendation to dismiss Professor Ward Churchill from the faculty of CU-Boulder for conduct that fell below minimum standards of professional integrity. The vote concluded nearly two and a half years of an extensive faculty review process to investigate charges of research misconduct against Professor Churchill. More than 20 tenured faculty members from CU and other institutions served on three separate panels. Each panel conducted a thorough review of his work and faculty involved found evidence showing Professor Churchill engaged in research misconduct, and that it required serious sanction.“The university has an obligation to ensure its faculty’s work is above reproach, said CU president Hank Brown. “Academic freedom requires academic integrity, responsibil
It seems that disgraced professor Ward Churchill will be fired tomorrow for his disgraceful comments he made about the victims of September 11th. I say, what took so long?
The university’s governing board plans to hold a closed session on the Boulder campus today, and a decision on Churchill is expected in the middle of the afternoon.
A panel eventually concluded that he had plagiarized, fabricated and falsified some of his research and writings.
On top of being a despicable human being for his comments about 9/11 he has plagiarized his opinions from others.
Churchill drew attention to himself by writing an essay questioning the innocence of those who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11. He described the victims as “technocrats” and “little Eichmanns” (Nazis).
Of course his supporters and the ACLU say his freedom of speech is being attacked.
Churchill’s liberal supporters insist that he’s being fired for voicing unpopular views.
Ward Churchill was fired tonight by the University of Colorado governing board. In 2005, Churchill said the 9/11 victims in the World Trade Center were “Little Eichmanns,” referring to Adolf Eichmann who helped carry out the Holocaust. While the First Amendment prevents Churchill from being fired for those baseless comments, a subsequent investigation led to evidence that he fabricated or falsified his research and plagiarized the work of others. In 2006, a university committee found Churchill guilty of academic misconduct, including plagiarism. This did not surprise me at all after I heard him give a speech where he lambasted the crowd for being ignorant about the 9th Amendment. With arrogant ignorant condescension, he said that the 9th Amendment supersedes the 1st Amendment preventing people from celebrating Columbus Day. Essentially, he said he had a right not to be offended. This was the first time in the history of the world that, that argument was made.It is totally ridic
The hypocrisy of the left just never ceases to amaze me. When it comes to maybe stopping a terrorist plot the Democrats are willing to let you and me be sued for daring to say that a "brown person" is acting suspicious. Yet they fight to the death when its a piece of crap university professor like Ward Churchill that hates America as much as they do. Ward Churchill just exemplifies what is wrong with our school systems. What other job or position in America is there where you are immune form responsibility for your actions? But time and again this is exactly what the left tries so hard to accomplish. Why do they so want people to not be responsible for their own words and actions? I guess if you understand that you would understand their liking for such a piece of shit person as Ward Churchill. At first blush you might think its just because they agree with him in his hate for America. And while no doubt that is part of it I think it goes deeper. I think that he exemplifi
Well, I guess with all the PC-madness consuming Britain, it was going to happen sooner or later: they're taking school lessons about the man who may have been the last sane leader they ever had and deleting them from their school curriculum (via Michelle Malkin):FURY erupted last night after Sir Winston Churchill was axed from school history lessons.Britain’s cigar-chomping World War Two PM — famed for his two-finger victory salute — was removed from a list of figures secondary school children must learn about.Instead they will be taught about “relevant” issues such as global warming and drug dangers. Churchill’s grandson, Tory MP Nicholas Soames, branded the move “total madness.”The decision to axe Churchill is part of a major shake-up aimed at dragging the national curriculum into the 21st century, it was claimed last night. But the plan — hatched by advisers — angered schools secretary Ed Balls, who vowed to probe ALL the changes to the curriculum. The proposals w
Woodward and I shop at the same used bookstore chain, so we often talk about our finds. Though we've never spoken of it in terms of competition, I know whenever he announces a good deal I feel a twinge a jealousy. And though he's never said anything about my own good finds, I can tell by the way he tightens his lips that he's not too pleased that he missed it for himself.Well, today I think I can declare myself king of this mountain.Sitting on the clearance section were all six volumes of Winston Churchill's history of World War II. A full, matching set. In hardback. In good condition. Each costing a grand total of one dollar. Yes, that's right, I bought the set for a whopping $6.I'm giddy!

In US politics, the battle cry seems to be “Never, never, never tell the truth”.
Paul: “Have you ever read the reasons they attacked us? They attacked us because we’ve been over there; we’ve been bombing Iraq for ten years…”
Questioner Wendell Goler: “Are you suggesting we invited the 9/11 attack, sir?”
Paul: “I’m suggesting that we listen to the people who attacked us and the reason they did it. They don’t come here to attack us because we’re rich and we’re free. They come and they attack us because we’re over there.”

Chartwell Kitchen Gardenpencil and coloured pencil in Moleskine sketchbookcopyright Katherine Tyrrell"A day away from Chartwell is a day wasted" (Winston Churchill)Yesterday the sun shone - and we went to Chartwell in Kent, former home of Winston Churchill and now a National Trust property. I went armed with camera and sketchbook and my partner went with the intention of doing one of the things he enjoys doing best - sitting in the sunshine with a marvellous view of the Weald of Kent. After a quick visit to the house (again - we go every year at least once, partner is a big history buff) and some negotiation as to which bench in the garden meant he got the best dose of sunshine on his face and gave me the best view(!), I settled down to sketch the kitchen garden from a terrace just above it. Churchill himself built the brick walls in the background of this kitchen garden. There's more information about the recent restoration of the kitchen garden here. The sketch was completed using a m

Maybe a British Bulldog? “Oh yes”.
How about some bawdy ‘carry on’ style humour. Hmm, that’ll do it.

A British mental health advocacy organization came up with a provocative way to challenge the stigma of mental illness. They commissioned a sculpture of Winston Churchill in a straitjacket. The British Prime Minister, who led the British people through WWII, is widely considered a heroic figure inspiring honor, persistence against overwhelming odds, and unbending will. Many have taken exception to what they consider to be a undignified association. Churchill suffered from depression, an experience he called his "black dog."

Rethink severe mental illness today (September 14) defied an official ban to protest at the “last taboo” of mental health stigma and start a debate on how to overcome it. The charity had planned to unveil a “black dog” statue of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill in a straitjacket in London's Trafalgar Square to draw dramatic attention to the stigma surrounding mental ill-health.
But the statue, emblazoned with a “prejudice, ignoran
