Candy Review: Christopher Norman Chocolates’ Tiles
One of the many nice things about attending the Chocolate Show was the opportunity to familiarize myself with all the chocolatiers to which I normally don’t have access. One of the gems I found was Christopher Norman Chocolates. Despite the fact that I can somewhat easily travel to New York City, I’ve never made it to the area where their factory and shop are located. After tasting their samples at the show, it is now on my “to do” list. These chocolates belong to the painted tiles series that they produce, which is only one out of an impressive array of other chocolate bonbons. John Down, the Chief Chocolatier, uses an innovative artistic technique blending fine painting and good chocolate. So you could say he is a master of both mediums! The three chocolates are nicely shaped rectangles which are strikingly beautiful. They are all handmade and hand painted so there are no two alike. I got samples that have red, yellow and orange painted tops, and they are ju

      Christopher Hitchens versus Alistair McGrath
I’d like to say a few things about two very prominent people in the modern debate over religion and anti-theism.  They are Christopher Hitchens and Alistair McGrath. I’ve been meaning to write about Hitchens for a while now, but after watching his recent debate with McGrath on YouTube, I wanted to comment on both of them.  (This article will be more effective if you watch all 11 parts of the debate first.) Christopher Hitchens is a true intellectual.  After reading God Is Not Great (twice) and watching almost of all his debates, I see a man who very much knows what he’s talking about.  He has a deep reservoir of literary, philosophical, cultural, and political knowledge to draw upon.  He speaks with authority, and import.  One of his fears is one that should never be realised: being boring.  Listening to him speak at length is almost mesmerising.  It is, for me, fascinating and intriguing. The reason for this is actually quite simple: Hitchens is direct.  He doesn’t mi

      Eldest by Christopher Paolini
Eldest is Christopher Paolini's second installment of the Inheritance series. The story continues where Eragon left off, in Farthen Dur.Eragon and Saphira, now heros, travel to the home of the elves to continue magical training. Eragon learns not only deeper magic but becomes literate in the elven language, which is important in spell-casting.After his training, he must join forces with the Varden and meet the Empire's army and fight. The author branches out to 2-3 different story lines in Eldest. He follows Roran, Eragon's cousin. Roran is also being pursued by the enemy and must make difficult decisions that effect not only him, but all of his village.Eldest has a decent storyline (if quite predictable) and the characters develop a little. The author seems to have grown in his writing, although I'd not put him in the same league with the staples in modern fantasy. I've read other reviews on big sites and, while this series gets a lot of bad reviews, I don't believe it's as bad

Christopher Vaughn Prosecutors seek the death penalty
This is the 3rd update to our ex boss who has been accused of murdering his family in Oswego Illinois, and last week the prosecutors in the case have decided that they will seek the death penalty for what he is being charged with. Namely killing his entire family on a service road. Christopher Vaughn, 32, of Oswego, accused of killing his wife and three children, will face the death penalty, if convicted. Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announced his decision to seek the death penalty Thursday. Source: Beacon News What is interesting and good is that the state prosecutor took their time in making the decision, and while it will be a while before he goes to court, this story is going to be a long player with occasional updates until he actually makes it into court. The other interesting bit is that people are not coming out of the wood work on this one to give their opinion on the issue. I agree with Christopher Hitchens!
Christopher Hitchens is the popular atheist who wrote "God Is Not Good". Here is an excerpt from my book where I agree with one of his statements." There is one thing that Hitchens states that I agree is true. He challenges the Christian to admit that we have only faith to rely on and not facts.[1] That is true; we have nothing but a faith in God and a bunch of arguments to support that faith. What does the atheist have other than a faith that God does not exist and a bunch of arguments to support their faith. There is nothing more to say about a book that says nothing new.[1] Hitchens, Christopher, “God Is Not Great”, Twelve Books, Paris, 2007, page 122."My book differs from most other apologetic works in that I approach the detractors of Christianity and religion in general by exposing their lies, deceptions, errors, and changing hypotheses and theories. Their evidence is no better than ours, but neither camp has a smoking gun for its viewpoint. To the atheist I say,

Breaking Away Movie Review - Starring Dennis Christopher - Dennis Quaid - and Daniel Stern
By David Terr "Breaking Away" is a very inspirational film about four 19-year-old boys from Bloomington, Indiana. The boys are known as "cutters", which is the local term for college age kids who don't go to college. The movie concerns the gang's dealing with prejudice from college kids as well as their desire to compete and make it on their own. The actors were all unknown at the time the movie was made, but they do a great job and the film is highly entertaining.Dave, one of the cutters, is an expert biker, who has won several trophies from races. He falls in love with Italian culture and starts speaking and acting Italian. He becomes overjoyed when he learns of a 100 mile bike race hosted by Cinzano, an Italian company, featuring Italian bikers. He prepares hard for this race, alienating his friends and family in the process. The race turns out to be a disaster, however. He races up to the head of the pack, where he encounters a group of Italian bikers. He tries talking to them in

Back to the Future Part III Movie Review - Starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd
By David Terr "Back to the Future Part III" is the third and final installment of the Back to the Future series. Like the other two films, it stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. This film also stars Mary Steenburgen as Clara Clayton, the Doc's love interests whom he meets in 1885."Back to the Future Part III" is sort of a sci-fi western film. It picks up where part 2 left off, after Marty gets a letter from the Doc from 1885. The younger Doc in 1955 teams up with Marty to recover the DeLorean from underground, where the older Doc had buried it. Doc must fix the faulty time circuit with 1955 technology. He's then ready to let Marty travel back to 1985, but much to his horror, Marty sees the Doc's tombstone from 1885 in the cemetery. They take pictures of the tombstone and rush to the library and discover that the older Doc had been shot by Buford (Mad Dog) Tannen, Biff's great grandfather, over a matter of 80 dollars. Marty decides to go back to 1885 to save him. When Marty g

Superman II Movie Review - Starring Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder
By David Terr "Superman II", the sequel to "Superman", stars many of the same actors as the original film in their original roles. The film is as entertaining and adventurous as the original. The acting is quite good, particularly that of the three arch-villains from Krypton (Terence Stamp as General Zod, Sarah Douglas as Ursa, and Jack O'Halleran as Non)."Superman II" begins shortly after the original film left off. Perry White, chief editor of the Daily Planet, sends Lois Lane to Paris to investigate a terrorist plot to set of a hydrogen bomb from the Eiffel Tower. When Superman (disguised as Clark Kent) learns of this, he quickly removes his disguise and flies off to save her and send the bomb off into space. The bomb explodes a safe distance from Earth, but the explosion causes the Phantom Zone, in which the three arch-villains General Zod, Ursa, and Non have been captured and flying through space, to break, releasing them near the moon. The three villains go to the moon, where the

God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens
Book Description ISBN-0446579807 God is getting bad press lately. Sam Harris' The End of Faith(2005) and Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion (2006) have questioned the existence of any spiritual being and met with enormous success. Now, noted, often acerbic journalist Hitchens enters the fray. As his subtitle indicates, his premise is simple. Not only does religion poison everything, which he

      Christopher Hitchens's challenge
Michael Gerson (devout member of the Bush tribe, former personal mouthpiece of the High Dubya, and inventor of the Axis of Evil) produced a damp little squib for The Washington Post a while back, entitled "What Atheists Can't Answer." Christopher Hitchens took the time to read it, providing exactly what was asked for (an answer) - and also a challenge: Here is my challenge. Let Gerson name one ethical statement made, or one ethical action performed, by a believer that could not have been uttered or done by a nonbeliever. And here is my second challenge. Can any reader of this column think of a wicked statement made, or an evil action performed, precisely because of religious faith? The second question is easy to answer, is it not? The first -- I have been asking it for some time -- awaits a convincing reply. By what right, then, do the faithful assume this irritating mantle of righteousness? They have as much to apologize for as to explain. Source: Christopher Hitchens, "An Atheist

      Christopher Hitchens and Crazy Pills
Doesn’t anybody notice this? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills! That’s how Mugatu, played by Will Ferrell, felt about Derek Zoolander’s looks in the the 2001 movie Zoolander. When I read some of the things that atheists write I feel the same way. The truth looks so obvious, but it is somehow missed in almost every case. Take, for instance, atheist Christopher Hitchens’ appearance on Hannity and Colmes to discuss Dr. Jerry Falwell’s death: I saw this on TV live when it aired and, although Hannity did not do the best job himself, it was clear that Hitchens had absolutely no idea what he was talking about regarding the beliefs of Christians and resorted to simply flinging unfounded insults and unschooled misunderstandings. Yet, if you browse around atheist blogs the opinion is that Hitchens won. If people really believe this, either they are taking crazy pills or I am. I must give Hitchens the benefit of the doubt, though, and assume that if he ac

      Interview with Christopher Hitchens
The Atlantic Online has a looong interview with Christopher Hitchens on "his beef with religion, his faith in mankind, and his new bestselling book, God Is Not Great." It's a veritable goldmine, and here are two examples: I was on the radio with some talk show host in Seattle who turned out to be Catholic. I found it out this way: I said, “Find me anyone who believes in the virgin birth. I just don’t believe anyone believes in it.” And he said, “I do.” I said, “No you don’t. No you don’t, you’re just saying it!” And he said, “Yes, I do. I believe in the immaculate conception of Jesus Christ.” And I said, “I hate to tell you this, but the immaculate conception of Jesus Christ is not the same as the virgin birth. The immaculate conception is the conception of the Virgin Mary. She was immaculately conceived, because she had to be conceived originally without sin. It’s a quite different thing from the vir

X-23: The Target by Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost, Mike Choi and Sonia Oback
X-23: The Target kicks all kinds of ass. As a sequel to the rather good X-23, it makes only one sequel mistake (it inserts a previously unknown character) while totally changing its focus (X-23 is now the main character) but still providing a neat link to the first one (when get to see X-23 read the story narrating the first series). So as a popcorn comic book, this moves are really frigging cool... because a lot of the comic is just watching X-23 kick ass.Yost and Kyle create some great--developing--character relationships and the series really moves over a period of time. Even in the couple pages where a month passes with X-23 staking something out, there's real development even in those pages. Accomplished popcorn storytelling is always nice, but there's a sensitivity to The Target; not one the first series was necessarily missing, rather it grows throughout this story.Mike Choi's art has a fantasy quality about it, which works for the comic, but everyone he draws is very young-l

X-23 by Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost and Billy Tan
My favorite thing about X-23 is really simple: a single narrator. I'm not a fan of the first person narrator's journals or thoughts replacing the thought balloon or the exposition box in general, but I can't stand series with multiple narrators per issue... or special issues where the different narrator sounds just the same as the regular series narrator (both sound--shockingly--just like the writer). So by keeping the single narrator throughout--and not forgetting about her for an issue or two--X-23 is already leagues ahead of my expectations. The comic's success is on its plot--it's a science discovery slash international intrigue thriller--and its characters. There's the bad boss, the badder scientist and the good scientist. X-23 is more the subject of the series than anything else, which, since it's a science discovery story (she's the discovery), works out very well. It's got a great pace, interesting things happen--both before and after the international intrigue. It's a

.Number 604Christopher Cross"Sailing"(1980).Genre:SoftHow do you put your finger on or put into words certain songs that stir feeling? You know the feeling... the one that makes your spine ... twinge. I'm sure everyone is different, to some, "Sailing" might stir revulsion or make one click to another song on their playlist (in the old days it was just "move the dial" ). I have been thinking of other songs that have the same affect as "Sailing" and its really hard to conjure a list straight of the bat. I thought of Little River Band's " Cool Change" (oddly, that's about sailing, is there something about sailing thats serene? ) or the song "1979" by Smashing Pumpkins and maybe "One Tree Hill" by U2. I think what makes a song like "Sailing" special is that you don't hear the song everyday, they also have a melancholy but also a sweet memory, yeah... bittersweet, as such. Makes you wonder what todays generation will look back on. Lets hope its not Paris Hilton "Stars are Blind"!Christo

Paris Hilton, Sky Lopez, Porn, Christopher Hitchens-My thoughts
So, I'm cleaning my room today with the television on, unusually, and I overhear that Paris Hilton, the most hated celebrity since Jar Jar Binks, underwent some sort of jail house conversion, to the disbelief and ammusement of the newscasters (I think it was Fox). Paris Hilton's apparent abandonment of shallow celebutanthood and newfound religiously-inspired introspection reminded me of a conversation I had with an Army buddy of mine. Don't ask me how we happened upon this subject; I'll just say that long gaps break up Army training and that, in their boredom, soldiers breach a great many topics. Anyways, we started talking about attractive women (I begged them to stop, honey) and somebody...OK, I asked whom they thought was the prettiest Latina actress. Of course, Jessica Alba was mentioned and somebody may have said "Thalia." This went on for a few minutes until one of the guys uttered, "Sky Lopez." Never having heard of her, I went to Wikipedia that evening and searched for he

His enemy... an insidious troupe of Catholic cardinals. The first issue actually isn't that bad. Paul Azaceta's art is, throughout, excellent and it's a setup issue, so there's some leeway for the exposition-ridden dialogue. However, once it becomes clear nothing is getting resolved and there's no real point to the story except to show off how bad the bad guys are, Talent gets real boring. It's only four issues too and they're full of action.
