I collected the red fruits from a tree back in Dec 07. In previous posts I have talked about these sprouts. I had around 70 cleaned seeds that I threw in an extra recycle bin that I had. Well, over the weekend I went to clean out the community bin and found this rare beauty. As of now this little sprout is showing great signs of variegation. Both sides of the first leaf have a yellow/white veins running through them. I have asked a few questions like will this seedling keep the variegation and the responses have been good. A few days ago I made a gorgeous cheesecake and popped it into the freezer to take to my parents this weekend for Easter. Yep... it's a 'holiday' again and time to pack up the kidlets and the Boyfriend of Kat, and head up to the land of extended family for an Easter Egg Hunt (I have the eggs bought and stuffed already) and a big meal. More than likely we'll be having ham. Why do I say this?
With my first show, Originals Spring Show , just around the corner I'm spending even longer hours than usual in my studio. Once the huge snow drift in front of my window has melted, my little room will be flooded with light, especially in the afternoon. But for now, I'm still in the shadow of the snow mountain. I'm using it again tonight as a backdrop for my latest collection of little paintings. These little guys are painted on 4 x 6 in canvas panels and have little embellishments like glitter or Swarovksi crystals. I love the blues harmonica. I play harmonica for my own entertainment mostly and consider it my favorite of all the instruments. It is so cool how this simple instrument became such a powerful part of the blues. Here in China, I am visiting my friends Kim and Tyler. Kim was a roommate of mine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a year, and I worked with both Tyler and Kim at der Rathskeller on campus for a summer. They have been really good friends of mine, and I was excited to get to visit them for Christmas--spending time with them has made it easier to be away from the States. Kim and Tyler have been teaching English at a language school in Hangzhou since February, and their one year commitment will be over in February. Today in a tray that I had dropped 50 Veitchia merrillii , Christmas Palm seeds in back in the middle of Dec. 07 I found 49 sprouted and broke the suface of the dirt. I spent about an hour trying to replant these in new pots. 25 made it into the seedling stand, and the other 24 were split up in between some 1 gallons an I planted some 3 and 4 bangers. Some how a Canary Island Date Palm seed made it in the tray, it also sprouted and actually had its 1st strap leaf on its way. Just a little added bonus.Come Watch my Plants Grow
I had hoped to participate in Julie's roundtable today, as well as write a few other things, but as so often happens my day and week is rapidly evaporating. Instead, I implore you to watch this video. Yes, I know its not Christmas. But I have probably watched this video 25 times since my cousin first sent it to me, and its absolutly hilarious. Just got the latest issue of Zumba choreography and music yesterday. I think I've watched the whole thing--the live class and the one-on-one instruction--three times since then. It's so great--I feel like I'm being spoiled with all the excellent music and choreography I've received since starting to teach. Christmas in 2007 was centered around electronics for the whole family. Invion 4" GPS Navigation Systems were given and received for all of the cars. They were easy to set up, and work great... the only issue is that the SD card is the source of the maps. If you lose the card, or it breaks, or gets erased, the unit won't work any more. I bought my wife a Jawbone Bluetooth Headset. She is using that with her Palm Treo 700w, and is having some problems. The headset does not seem to reliably connect to the unit, we have not been able to transfer an existing phone call to the headset, and the voice dialing doesn't seem to work. If I turn the headset on, make sure it connects to the Palm, and dial directly on the phone (or answer an incoming call), everything works great. The sound qu
