      Recycle your Christmas Tree
Did you know that, according to the National Christmas Tree Association, there are between 30 and 35 million Christmas trees cut down each year? They plant another 56 million each each to make up for it, but imagine 30 million Christmas trees sitting in some landfill somewhere, taking up space and taking years to decompose. Not ideal. The I Dream of Greenie alternative: recycling your tree, which is my plan this year. My neighboring town is offering this service. I just bring it to the designated location, and they mulch it up and use it for ground cover on city and Adopt-a-spot locations. Some municipalities actually pick up at your house- what a deal! You can also go to the National Christmas Tree Assocation and enter your zip code to find a location near you.

      Replanting Your Christmas Tree
If you are in the market for a beautiful evergreen to be added to your landscape, Christmas is a perfect time to begin shopping. While most Christmas shoppers purchase a Christmas tree that has already been chopped at the bottom, there are several nurseries that offer live Christmas trees with the roots still intact. This means you can fill a space in your landscape with the Christmas tree that you enjoyed all season long. This is also a great way to recycle your Christmas tree instead of simply throwing away one of natures precious resources. The most important factor in finding a Christmas tree to replant is to find a tree that will transplant well after the holidays. Of course, the success of replanting a Christmas tree truly lies in the hands of the nursery where you receive the evergreen tree, as it is essential that they take extreme care of the roots by immediately placing them in burlap once the Christmas tree is removed from the ground.A good nursery will also point you in the d

      Christmas Tree
A Christmas tree is one of the most popular traditions associated with the celebration of Christmas . It is normally an evergreen coniferous tree that is brought into a home or used in the open, and is decorated with Christmas Lights and colourful ornamets during the days around Christmas. An angel or star is often placed at the top of the tree.It is generally thought that Christmas trees were established in Britain after Queen Victoria's consort, Prince Albert, brought the custom over from Germany. However, there are records of small fir trees being used to decorate houses before this and sailors used to affix one to the top of the mainmast of their ships. In Germany and northern Europe, the practice of decorating coniferous trees originated in pagan times, when the trees were seen as phallic symbols representing the fertility of the nature gods. The practice was associated with the Winter Solstice (around December 21) which was seen as the date of the rebirth of the Sun God. Tre

      Christmas Tree Ornaments
One of the many things I love about the Christmas Season is viewing our collection of Christmas tree ornaments. These ornaments are diverse, and I've gathered them from all around the world at various times, so our Christmas tree is EXTREMELY eclectic. And that's the way I like it!Others have gifted us ornaments through the years as well--and I treasure these ones! We have a most unusual Christmas tree with many memories hanging from it. If these ornaments could talk, they'd have some fabulous adventures and stories to share. We have ornaments from the Canadian Rockies, Bali, Thailand, Hopi-land, Hawaii (naturally!), France, England, Spain, Portugal, and more. We have dolphins with Christmas hats....mermaids, angels galore....teddybears...elves...faeries...stars....turtles...and football figurines. Many of these items are hand-crafted. How about you? Do you have a themed tree or an eclectic ornament collection as we do?

It's absolutely breathtaking in person! This is Lori's (who did the Game of Life). I noticed on her blog when I went to check out her family letter. This girls got talent! I love the boards she used to decorate her tree! How cool. You could also do this with vinyl lettering. While we were at my friends house delivering goodies, I noticed how creative she got with her tree. She has 2 girls under 2 and put a gate around the presents. Genius!! Why didn't I think of that this year with my toddler? Hmm...

Source: http://www.envirowarrior.com/merry-christmas-tree/ What Kind Of Christmas Tree Do You Have? December 20th 2006 05:52 With Christmas almost upon us I thought I’d take a look at some of the more environmentally outrageous, wasteful traditions [like cutting down living trees], associated with the consumer driven ‘festive season.’ Perhaps looking at some of the alternatives on offer for those with an equally non-consumerist, eco-conscious, creative bent. Traditions Fir Trees began their association with Christianity almost 1,000 years ago, when St Boniface, originally converted the German people to Christianity. Coming across a group of "pagans' worshipping an oak tree one day - in anger - St Boniface is said to have cut down the oak tree and to his amazement a young fir tree sprung up from the roots of the oak tree. St Boniface assumed this as a sign of the Christian faith. But it was not until the 16th century - with the rise of a wasteful bourgeo

The Biggest Christmas Tree of Europe

The decoration, the lights in the streets, in the trees, the Christmas sounds, the fragrances in the air and the favorite part is getting to be with all of my family. It's wonderful to see Christmas trees in the downtown and people taking photos. Do you know where is the biggest Christmas tree of Europe? Is at Oporto, Portugal, it has 76 meters high, 280 tons of weight, 2.4 millions of micro-lamps, 13.000 lamps, 28.000 meters of shining tube, 500 meters of neon and 600 strobes. OPorto is the third city to receive this Christmas tree, after having passed for Warsaw and Lisbon. Take a look to this picture, it's so beautiful, isn't it?

      Christmas Tree Run - 12.08.07
Even though we never found that perfect Christmas tree, we had a great time with some great people under beautiful blue skies on this year’s Christmas Tree run to the Cle Elum, Washington area. We all met for breakfast at the Cottage Cafe in Cle Elum. Already seated upon our arrival were Jerry (aka soggymountain) and Evelyn from Yakima, Brian (aka Photog) and Cindy from Gig Harbor, Valerie and her mother Ellen from Bothell and Kent, and friends of Ellen’s (whom I did not get their names). Of course I can’t forget to mention my wife Martha, daughter Korinne and our dog Tareva. After breakfast, we headed out of town to the Roslyn Cyclery in Roslyn to purchase our tree permits. We were the only family on the hunt for a Christmas tree, everybody was out for the fun of it. After getting the permit, we headed out of town, past Ronald towards Salmon la Sac. Decorating the Christmas Tree
We decided not to put up our tree this year.  No, we're not protesting Christmas and how commercial everything has become.  I'm ALL about presents and spending money around Christmastime.  Although, I do wish that stores would wait until after Thanksgiving to start with all the damn Christmas marketing and music...especially since they started in on it all just after Halloween this year.  We have a better reason for not putting up the tree.We are leaving for our 3 week Aruba vacation in 11 days and will be there for Christmas.  I know, you hate me.  I understand.  Before you get stuck on the glamorous images of Margaritas by the poolside on Christmas day, remember that I have a 5 and a 2 year old.  We have traditions that we will not be able to pull off this year.  Unless I cut down a divi divi tree and lug it into our house, I'm thinking that the closest we'll get to a Christmas tree is to put lights on one of our outdoor palm tre

      Our first Christmas tree
Last year we tried to buy a Christmas tree too late - on the 23rd Dec, all were left overs and not in good condition, so we ended up bought nothing. This year, we bought our Christmas tree earlier, on 1 Dec. We first tried getting on 24 Nov, but couldn’t decided due to the price. We finally bought our first every tree from IKEA. They are selling at very reasonable price. A 6 feet tall (artificial) Christmas tree only costs RM59. As compared to other stores would charge a few hundreds, this is very cheap. We got the decoratives from IKEA as well, only RM29 a box of 48 pieces. Ian wanted red, I wanted blue (not available) and DH wanted silver. In between red and silver, I voted for silver, and Ian’s vote can be easily manipulated. I picked up a pack of golden little gift boxes for deco as well, and a piece of few yards silver glitering thread. My first time decorating a Christmas tree. We woke up early on Sunday, after breakfast, Isabel, Ian and I sat around the tree

Putting up and decorating your Christmas tree is a holiday tradition which has been in effect for hundreds of years and will probably be in effect until the end of time. Choosing whether you want a real Christmas tree or an artificial Christmas tree is a dilemma which many of us face every year. There are many benefits to both forms of trees but there are many disadvantages as well. Here are a

      Paper Cups Christmas Tree
The other day when we were at Starbucks, I saw one of their decorations in their store. It looks like a white tree made out of thick strips of paper. I didn't take a closer look at it but it looks interesting to me and had given me an idea. I thought I'll try to make a similar Christmas Tree with my son and well, it became my personal favourite now. Oh, I did help with curling here because it will take him ages to curl all the strips.Christmas is around the corner. If you do not have a Christmas tree at home, why not make it to add it a bit of festive feel? Materials needed:10 Paper Cups1 Rubber Band1 (Balloon) Stick2 Stickers of the same size and shapeSome Paper Clay or any Self Dry ClayTools needed:ScissorsPencilThick ClothHow to do it:Measure 0.5cm from the rim of the cup and draw around it.Increase the measurement by 0.5cm for the next cup, ie, Cup No. 2 will be 1cm, No.3 - 1.5cm, No.4 - 2cm and so on.Cut the rim according to the line drew above. Break with Tradition this Festive Season – Swap the Christmas Tree for a Christmas Palm
Sat in an already decidedly chilly UK it’s sometimes easy to forget that, for many, Christmas is not celebrated amidst the snow and ice – or just rain - but whilst the sun is out and the sun block is on, and for those in such climes (which will hopefully include us this time next year) who are not afraid to break with tradition, how about casting aside your Christmas Tree and replacing it with this novel Christmas Palm? Oh “GREEN” Christmas Tree
Have you checked out your Christmas tree to be put up soon? Well for some people, gone are the days of using fresh trees to decorate and a lot of them have turned to the reusable trees made of plastic to save on cost. While this may sound like good news for people who are wary of the deforestation problems we hear of today, it is also something that may be of concern to every household who uses them. It is no secret that a lot of these trees have come from China. And if you missed it earlier this year, China has been in the headlines due to malpractice in ensuring the overall safety of people as far as materials are concerned. While you are saving cost and trees, you may be endangering your lives as well. Remember that turning to fresh trees is a good practice as long as you know how to change and source for them to avoid being a contributor towards deforestation. Plastic or artificial Christmas trees are good and traditional. But it would be best to check them out beforehand so tha

Do you have a fresh Christmas tree this year?If you do, you can extend the life of the tree and, perhaps more importantly, reduce the amount of needles that drop off by simply adding a packet of floral preservative or by adding a few drops of bleach or vinegar. It works for me!

      Christmas Tree Card
This a Christmas Tree card That I've made. The idea of making this card had been inspired by my friend, Linda and the original designer of this idea is Sandi Genovese. This is a 3 dimensional card which can be fold flat for mailing purposes. The fun part of creating this card is you could totally embellished it with anything you want. On my card, I've made some pearl ornaments and use some small wooden Christmas embellishment to decorate it. To soften the look, I've tied some ribbons on it and add a felt snowman embellishment to it too.The green paper that I've used for the triangle tree is a velvet green paper. I've done some dry embossing to it and add some crafting foam dots, decorative stars and sequins to it.As for the swirl, I've stamped and inked the edges. I've also written my messages on it.For the top of the tree, I've make a small cone out of card stock and then attached a star on both side of it. This is such a fun card to make and I bet any recipient would be amaze

Pimp Your Christmas Tree with USB Digital Photo LCD Baubles
As far as Christmas tree ornaments are concerned, these Digital Photo LCD Baubles are certainly some of the geekiest we’ve come across as, whilst these may initially look like your standard, run-of-the-mill, somewhat dull Baubles, they actually come with their very own integral mini LCD digital photo displays complete with slide show functionality. Known as the Santa’s Slide Show Ornament, this digitally enhanced Christmas Tree bauble comes with integral 1.5” LCD screen and is billed as being capable of holding up to fifty of your favourite, seasonally themed photos – though both the resolution of the LCD screen and the bauble’s internal memory are not detailed specifically. Just as with more traditional digital photo viewers, uploading your images to these baubles (I’m in fear of developing a fixation for that word) is as easy as hooking up the baubles to you PC via the included USB cables. From The Christmas Tree
So, did you have any Project Runway gifts waiting for you under the tree this morning? BPR reader Megan sends along this note: Hi to all of you, My sister-in-law is the person who got me hooked on PR. For Christmas, I've made her a coffee filter dress, with a nod to Angela. I cheated -- by using a store bought slip -- but I hand sewed each of the filters to it. Suffice it to say, it took me WAY longer than 2 days! Happy holidays! Megan PS Isn't it amazing how often the phrase "make it work" is applicable? It's my new mantra; instead of freaking out (my usual MO), I decide to MIW. What a beautiful, amazing gift Megan! We hope everyone gets a little Runway love today.

A Christmas tree, political correctness, and leftist irrationality
That adored brainchild of the left, political correctness, strikes again. A Toronto (where else?) judge has ordered the removal of a Christmas tree, afraid that it will offend non-Christians.Cohen says she understands the small tree has stood in the lobby at 311 Jarvis St. for years during the Christmas season, but in a letter to employees says non-Christians are "confronted" with the artificial decoration, which makes them feel "they are not part of this institution.''The judge, who oversees administration at the courthouse, said it's inappropriate that a Christian symbol is the first thing visitors see when they enter the building. One thing I have to wonder is if anyone has ever done a poll that asked, "Are you offended by Christmas trees during the holiday season in government or public places?" And if they haven't, then why are some people to worried about offending that small minority out there?I've never taken too kindly to political correctness. Even many on the left don'

      Christmas Tree
I have heard a couple of people asked "Are your Christmas tree up yet?" Our answer is "YES!, it's up and decorated :)"As I said before, I love Christmas. It's my most favorite time of the year. And I guess this enthusiasm about Christmas is contagious as I have infected my kids with it. My kids loooveee Christmas as much as I do. If there are Scrooge out there at this time, the Spirit of Christmas Present should bring him in our house - our house is full of warm Christmas Spirit, it really is contagious :).Ok, let's talk about Christmas Tree. I have a story to tell. When my brothers and I were little...in our little apartment in the Philippines... decorating a Christmas tree is a tradition we do every December 1st. Coming from a middle class family (which translate as poor here in the US) we didn't have much money to buy a nice Christmas tree so every year we improvised. We've made one out of paper, out of a plant, out of string, etc. etc.One year, a day after Christmas, my mom s

Well, we're here once again -- Christmas comes faster and faster the older you get, I think. This year, the Boteks, from Pennsylvania, have given the big tree, and these are their grandchildren who are on the wagon up here, that brought the tree in. We're so excited to once again start all the decorations. The decorators are here from around the country to decorate the White House, and I think we'll reveal the decorations to all of you this Thursday,I believe. They'll finish up probably on Wednesday and then we'll invite the press inside to come see it. And the big, big tree that the Boteks have grown in Pennsylvania will be the tree in the Blue Room, decorated beautifully once again for this holiday season. I'm so thrilled and honored that you all would donate a tree to the White House this season. Thank you all very, very much, and t

      The Great Christmas Tree Caper
I love Christmas, so I decided this year to put up two Christmas trees. I figured I could do a nice faux tree in the dining room and a real one in the living room. Having two trees would be great for the holiday party I'm hosting in just over a week. Two of my girlfriends came over to help with all things tree related. The faux tree went up without any major issues, it's one of those pre-lit plug-it-in type of things, so there's no way to easily jack that up. We put on some red bows and left it alone...very classic looking. It actually almost looks real, shedding faux pine needles and all. Nice job, drink some eggnog. Mission #1 accomplished. We then decided it was time to go purchase the real tree, so we piled in my friend's pickup truck and headed to the tree farm/lot/golf course (whatever you want to call it). Walking around looking for the perfect tree felt like something out of the Black Brady Bunch, minus the boys, the parents, and Alice. We were singing all of the corny Chris

At least we managed to get the Christmas tree home...
I'm a very patient girl. Except when I'm impatient. We went to pick out our Christmas tree this weekend. It was one of my… "this is our Christmas tradition… and it's going to be FUN… gosh darn it!!" moments. Ya. Those never work out. I had it all planned out… that if we left church RIGHT after it ended - we would get to Olive Garden (45 minute drive) for a nice lunch of salad and breadsticks just in time to nurse Elijah. (Everything I plan is in relation to when I have to nurse.) We would then go to the Christmas tree lot - to get our tree. One problem… my husband. Oh. Ya. Him. Allegedly* the church got a new soundboard… and Tim had to do something with it after church. Thus… foiling my plan to leave immediately. *(the church really did get a new soundboard… I just wanted to use the word allegedly… sounds more interesting) So… we didn't get off to the best start. No. We got off to a ve

Maybe they are family heirlooms, things your children made you or you had as a child, or special theme collections -- whatever it is that you put on your tree that brings you pleasure each year as you decorate it. So here are few from my tree.My Mother in Law and Sister in Law started me on this collection. These are my expensive ornaments (which I have yet to buy one myself thanks to relatives).
