This is the Twinkle Hoodie from Twinkle's Big City Knits. I couldn't find buttons to match the color, so I did fabric covered ones.These are both the Princess Capelet from the same book. The one on the right I used a vintage pin to hold closed; for the yellow one I threaded satin ribbon through the knit. She tied it several different ways, resulting in several different looks.

Last Years Christmas Present
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
With no thought of the dog outside filling their head.
And mamma [...]

You know that feeling when you unwrap a Christmas present and discover it's something you didn't really want or need, that's how I felt when I saw the new Abercrombie & Fitch male model billboard on Sunset Boulevard, which I can only assume is their new Christmas campaign.
Sadly it's not a very appealing stocking filler and wouldn't even rate much as a 'Secret Santa' prize either. I much pre

I filled the coffee pot with water this morning & then the water stopped running. A water main broke out behind us in the alley, so we are going to be out of water for a few days. The city workers came & shut off the water & then left. Apparently they don't fixwater mains on Christmas!They've parked a trailer full of water down at the end of the block since everything is closed for the holiday and we can't get bottled water. I used to have a big round cooler that I made koolaid in on hot days, but of course I can't find it when I need it! I'm trying to figure out what to bring water back to the house in. I do have a pile of water pitchers ready to go fill. This ought to be an adventure.Fortunately, we had our Christmas dinner at hubby's grandma's on Sunday

having water for meal prep or anything. We'll get a hotel to shower in if it isn't fixed in a
We look for certainty and security, predictability and comfort at Christmas every year. And then we start reading the real story of Christmas in Matthew and find anything but what we were looking for in the story. It isn't what we want to hear; but Jesus came to deal with what we can't--life's complications that require a savior--sin, death, and the devil.
A friend confided that she's always

If you are ordering your Christmas Presents on line and having them shipped be careful. Homeowners in White Plains, Hastings and other communities are reporting that thieves are picking up boxes left at front doors and stealing the boxes. In one case an I-Pod was taken out of a box, the box was sealed up and left on the front door stoop.
If the package can be seen from the street it becomes a target. In my area last year this happened and the UPS driver assigned to my area refused to leave packages. He insisted that the homeowner be home to sign so he could hand the package over. While the problem seemed to be during the holidays this particular driver will no longer leave packages. I now have to drive up to the UPS facility in Elmsford if I am not home when he attempts to deliver a package. I did finally arrange with UPS to give them a note that they will not be responsible if something is taken. But if you are having anything of value
Christmas is around the corner and we are helping Santa Claus to deliver a special Christmas present to you.

I would play with this for hours and I know my kids and friends would too. It’s a bracelet made of tiny magnets. You can shape it or just twist and play with it. It sells on their website for $60 (the double one). They have different designs and styles. It’s like a rubics cube of jewelry! Great for anyone that likes tinkering with things.

Christmas presents
(This IS NOT a Sponsored Post!!!)
So I had a goal for Christmas this year and that goal was to get $500 worth of presents for $200 or less – AND I DID IT!!! So I am going to share with you some of the stuff I bought and how I got it so you can do the same if you’d like. Hopefully my family doesn’t read my blog, lol!

It's Christmas time! I don't know about you, but I've already blown my 2007 shopping budget. How about some easy, do it yourself (DIY) ideas for how to make gifts for family, friends, kids and teachers? I've scoured the internet and found some fun, easy ideas that don't require too much time or skill. They are creative and fun to make and receive. Please feel free to leave a comment with your homemade Christmas gift ideas.Custom kits: These are fun ideas for kids and can be assembled from items that have been in the junk drawer for years. You can make a custom kit for your child to care for their stuffed animals (pet supplies, toys, biscuits), dolls (baby wipes, newborn diapers, pacifier) or aspiring chef (a mixing spoon, cookie cutters, measuring cups and apron). Think of what your child loves and get creative! Or go with an adult theme and make a romance kit (fake rose petals, Sparkling cider, candles) or stress buster kit (aspirin, earplugs, eye mask). Take the time t
So this year on my side of the family, we're not doing presents; we're just doing stockings. We're all ridiculously excited about this, I must admit. But that's neither here nor there. Here are some of the ideas I've had lately.If you check out the dollar spot at Target, they currently have those fun metal "mindbender" puzzles where you have to figure out how to separate the interlocking pieces. I picked some up today, figuring they would work well as an amusement on Christmas afternoon.Photo Posters. I uploaded a couple of images to the Wal-mart website and I had my posters back within a week (!). The color looks fabulous, too. Definitely a relatively inexpensive choice.That's all I have so far--I'm not terribly close to done with the shopping.
Different kind of Christmas present is a blog series I’m working on until Christmas. It’s a humor look at different kind of things that could be given as gifts, I hope to add several posts to this series. I hope you enjoy it!

He had lived up in the hills for years mostly keeping to himself. Of course as the only blacksmith in the area most of the men knew John well. The kids were all scared of John. Maybe it was his appearance as his large robust frame was always cover with black soot. The boys nicknamed him wicky John and the name stuck for generations of kids that came and went in the small village. John never attended church. They say once time the Rev. Jackson went out to try and pay a call on John and thinking that it was the boys playing a prank at his door John came running out raising cane and the preacher left in a state of fright. Some say John felt he had sealed his fate that day.His last Christmas Eve was to be no different old wicky John thought. John never kept any holidays, so not keeping Christmas didn't surprise anyone. John blew out the candles and retired as the sun went down. But, he was awakened by the hardest of knockings on his door. John went to the door in his usual fit of rage o

It's tradition that at our Annual Enormous Family Christmas party we have a Chinese auction (or is the correct term now Asian-American auction?) where each of the 20-plus adults brings a white elephant gift, otherwise known as a gently used, no-longer-needed item from home.After we draw numbers, the first person picks a package, unwraps it, then the person with number two has the option of either snagging the first gift that is now unveiled or picking another gift from the pile. On and on it goes, gifts trading hands and flying back and forth until everyone has opened a gift and is either mentally cherishing their new-found treasure or cursing the fact they ended up with yet another set of authentic Graceland commemorative salad tongs.The exchange had continued for some time and I hadn't been paying much attention to what was going on because I was happily stroking my Cold Stone gift card when, amidst the chaos, wrapping paper and bows I looked and beheld Andrew standing, in what ca
Has anyone asked for a new sewing machine for Christmas?
This evening my DH asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year. I told him I really have my eye on a new sewing machine (Bernina 430). It is on sale through Jan 5 at my local dealer for $1999. He started laughing!
Well, he asked and I told. I told him I'd be willing to part with a couple of machines, thing is it would be difficult
