We had a great time sharing Christ at EE Carolina De Mello school in Santo Andre, and we praise God that 454 students and 9 teachers accepted Christ. We worked with Igreja Batista Vila Gerti on Tue. 4/22 and Wed. 4/23 at the school, speaking to students in 5th to 8th grades and in high school. We always work in the schools with a church that is in the area of the school, so that they can try to continue to work with the new believers to disciple them and help them to grow. After the death of Jesus, his followers split into two factions. They held radically different views about their leader – his identity, his message and his vision of the future. (Meant to post this Sunday, oh well) “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.” -1 Corinthians 11:1 “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children” -Ephesians 5:1 “You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.” 1 Thessalonians 1:6 A new reader, Jamie, mentioned teaching non-violence in church and it got me thinking. There is a definite alternative to this idea of placing armed guards in churches, and that is for a church to instead advocate, teach and promote an attitude of non-violence. I believe this is a deeply biblical and deeply spiritual issue and I figured I’d write a devotional thought regarding it. I think there might be varying opinions on what the goal, motive or vision for a church should be, but everyone would have to agree it has something to do with teaching and modeling following Christ (being ‘Christian’).

The spiral dance or turning or whirling dedicated to Divine Remembrance, can be traced back in many religious tradition including in ancient Jewish mystical traditions. What is fascinating to know is that Jesus Christ himself did perform such whirling dance with his twelve disciples as recorded in gnostic text. I've had this idea before, in lesser forms, and every time I come back to it there seems to be another piece of evidence supporting it. Maybe some of you've already thought of this or read about it somewhere else. This is what I've realized so far: In the story of Jesus, an angel comes down from Heaven to the Virgin Mary, and tells her she is blessed because she will give birth to our savior, Jesus Christ. In "Terminator," Kyle Reese comes back from the future to Sarah Connor, and tells her she is destined to give birth to humankind's savior, John Connor. John Connor = J. C. = Jesus Christ Kyle Reese = The Angel Sarah Connor = Mary Heaven, like the future, cannot be easily reached. Visiting either place requires special circumstances. To get to Heaven, one must at the very least die.
