Looking for something new to eat, we brought ourselves to Chinatown in Washington, DC so we can sample something that is not "American Food". By this time we're starting to grow tired of the taste and we're looking for a more familiar food that we have at home. We rode a train from a station near our hotel and got down in Gallery PI-Chinatown Station. The Chinatown area maybe small but it is remin

What do you do when you want to eat on the cheap? Well what you should do is cook at home, but for arguments sake let's say you needed to find somewhere to grab takeout? Here's what I've been doing at least once a week for the past few weeks. I go to Chinatown and get a couple of BBQ roasted chicken legs as takeout and eat that along with a salad that I make at home.Hong Kong Eatery (here) does
When I first came across this collaboration, I was pleasantly surprised to see the soccer loving collective of Chinatown Soccer Club rewarded with a collaboration with the quintessential soccer brand adidas. In a soccer world where aside from signature models, collaborations are few and far between this was a definite surprise, on one of adidas' little known contemporary products nonetheless. For

While in Washington DC, I decided to make a trip to Chinatown. Wow, I was completely intrigued. This Chinatown is so different from the New York City one. This Chinatown is so clean and modernized. Unlike the New York City Chinatown, there's no smell of fish and there's no unidentifiable liquids leaking on the floors. There's no loud street vendors or people trying to sell you fake purses or bootl

For those unaware, Call of Duty’s creators Infinity Ward is prepping to drop 4 entirely new COD4 multiplayer maps sometime this spring. The twins had an excursion with the school to Chinatown today. It is the first time that I am not tagging along since they joined the childcare centre last June. Previously, I followed the twins for a few excursion as they were still settling in the new envirnoment. And the way the twins, especially Asher, waved good-bye to me from the bus today made me felt so proud of them. I think they had truly grown mentally besides physically since joining the school. But I "trail" them at Chinatown for a very short while, just to keep my promise to the twins that I shall meet them at Chinatown if they are well-behaved.As Chinese New Year is approaching, the streets are decorated with the festive decors and new year's goods 'sprung' in all shops along a few streets. The twins are a little fascinated w

Another week of work gone by, and more encounters with Korean students at work! I taught at a high school on the westside this week, and two ESL social studies classes consisted of 50% Korean students. When I mentioned to the class that I had previously taught English in Korea for a year, their immediate reaction was "WOW (throw in a few golf claps)! Do you like Korea?"Ahhh, the joys of teaching Korean students once again. My answer to their question was "I love all countries," haha. Most of them where here studying and living with homestays, some were here with their mothers (which they are still scared to death of) while their "salary-man" fathers are back in the motherland, and some have been living in Vancouver for quite a while. What I find humorous is how these students come over her
Tsugi ha, Okachimachi. Deguchi ha hidari gawa desu.次は、御徒町、出口は左川です。Finally, the gaijin found a Divisoria-style haven of cheap goods from China. It is indeed a real haven for people who are in tight budget here in Japan. Here, everything you see in the Philippine Chinatown districts are here.Okachimachi is a town next to Ueno via the Yamanote Line. The station lies within the central business district of the Chinese community. Here, you can find everything from "toothpick to battleship," a common joke of Chinese traders in Davao City. The first time I went there, I was with our neighbor in Davao, Ryan who also works here, and he toured me to this amazing place. Streets are filled with side-street shops selling very cheap watches, bags, golf and golf accessories, clothes from branded to never-been-heard brands, shoes, bags, toys, lots and lots of food stalls catering Japanese and Chinese goods like manju, rice cakes, tuna rice bowls, okonomiyaki, different kin
HOUSTON (Houston Chronicle) – Developer David Wu has begun work on a 17-acre mixed-use development in the city's rapidly growing Chinatown area.
Park8: The Land of Oz, which Wu says will cater to the Asian community, will feature two residential towers, a hospital, a hotel and a more than 200,000-square-foot shopping center.
The development is being built on the west side of Beltway 8 between Beechnut and Bellaire, near Arthur Storey Park.
In an interview with MTV News, Josh Horowitz talks to Jack Nicholson about the new DVD releases of his directed films and the heretofore unheard-of plot details for a prospective third “Chinatown”.Jack Nicholson in “Chinatown” in 1974.Photo credit: MPTV.netMTV: Was the third film in the “Chinatown” trilogy ever scripted?Nicholson: No. I would imagine Robert [Towne] has some kind of outline. I can tell you it was meant to be set in 1968 when no-fault divorce went into effect in California. The title was to be “Gittes vs. Gittes”. It was to be about Gittes’ divorce. The secrecy of Meg Tilly’s character was ... to involve the most private person in California: Howard Hughes. That is where the air element would have come into the picture.MTV: Would you consider doing the film still? I would think if you and Towne said “we want to do this,” Paramount would say: “Go for it.”Nicholson: I certainly would consider it.I would imagine Bob would as well. [But the second

My partner and I have officially been living in South Australia for six months today--a half a year living in another country. It’s sort of crazy when you think about it. It seems like just the other day, I was sitting at my receptionist job in downtown Chicago, fantasizing about moving here, going to school, eating my weight at sausage sizzles. And now I’m mowing meat pies and hugging koalas with the best of them.

04.08.07 - By John “N.S.U.” Way: “Now I damn near lost my nose back there. Now I like it. I breath through it all the time.” In the aftermath of his fight with Raphael Marquez earlier this year, Israel Vasquez must have been especially able to sympathize with Jack Nicholsons Inspector Gittes of “Chinatown” fame. Considered one of the greatest motion pictures of all time, “Chinatown” sported an impressive ten Academy Award nominations, with Nicholson notably-and controversially-besting Al more…
Many people should have known by now about the drinks “Whatever” and “Anything”. They are random drinks of a few flavours and I personally dislike the idea since not all the available “hidden” prize suits me.What do you think if the drinks stall holder tells an elderly “This is nice to drink”, pointing to one of the cans?If you do not even know what is inside the can, how can you tell a customer that it is nice to drink? This is certainly a deception, probably, to sell away the unpopular drinks.Well done, Ah Boy Beer Garden, the drinks stall at Chinatown.

I don't think the weather can get any nicer than this. It's in the high 70s with a steady wind and little humidity. Mia's playing in her swimming pool in the front yard. She's alternating between being a mermaid and a mama duck. Jesse's raking the lawn trying to pick up all the pieces of aluminum left behind by the roofers. I think it's safe to say that we can never walk barefoot on the lawn again. There are so many pieces, and some of them are the size of confetti. I'm sitting on the glider on the front porch between loads of laundry. Tonight we're going to have a bonfire in the new firepit and make s'mores. Tomorrow we're going to try out another church. We're going to the church where Jesse was confirmed, but he and his family left over ten years ago. It has a lot of his family history there: they have up pictures of every confirmation class for the last 70 years or so.Murder in Chinatown by Victoria Thompson is the latest entry in the Gaslight mystery series. McDonald's asian cheesiness =Pdurian stall (just like malaysia...)yay under 5bux IS possible!pearl river mart, its not really in chinatown..but pretty close by in the very cool Soho and very cool store!
I love chinatown, and if i had an awsome super duper digital SLR (which i don't ~_~), i think i'd snap so many pictures that the memory card in it would explode! Lol.... well maybe that wouldn't happen, but my point being that its a pretty cool neighbourhood. We had our first meal in NYC right here, and as we were on a budget....we had to eat on a budget (seriously...like 5 bux was considered overpriced) and we knew before we stepped foot on american soil that chinatown is land of cheap! Aaaas a result our first meal did turn out to be fairly good, fairly cheap.. tho the tipping thing didn't go down too well for me (at first) as i wasn't used to it .As an ethnically asian person, it was exciting to see a place like this smacked within a plethora of distinct neighbourhoods all around NYC. A McDs with a chinese sign, a stall hanging with durians, a crab escaping from the seafood stand....it had familiarity to the countries i've visited and lived in asia...quite homely actually =).
神戸南京町Following a visit to the Kobe City Museum, we walked five minutes to Chinatown for some noisy shopping and lunch. The walk in itself was quite pleasant: tree-lined streets with old and new buildings--and even sidewalks. Whenever I come to Kobe I am also struck at how much lower the population density is compared to Kyoto. In contrast, though, the ratio of very well dressed people seems higher. Both of those observations are upended as soon as we pass through the gates of Chinatown, or Nankinmachi. It was packed with Golden Week visitors in their best casual wear. The area that became Chinatown has about 150 years of history. When the port of Kobe opened to foreign trade in 1868, immigrants from both Europe and China arrived. A settlement was set up for the former as a result of the peace treaties Japan had signed with various Western governments. The Chinese immigrants, though, did not enjoy this privilege and had to settle in a neighboring part of the city.Today there are
I forgot to mention that I have a turtle tank. I have 2 turtles actually. 2 red-ear slider turtles. I got them probably like 4-5 years ago when I went to Chinatown to eat Dim Sum. I was walking around and saw these tiny turtles for sale and I had to get them. I actually got 4. Then I gave 2 away when they started to get kinda big.
Turtles are like the easiest pets to keep. They always get all excited when you get close to the tank because they are happy to see you..or they are happy to see you b/c you feed them. One time the filter broke and I didn’t get a chance to fix it and yet they were as happy as if the filter was working.
I feed them sparingly to keep them small. My friend has 2 also and feeds them everyday and they’re twice the size of mine. I hope one day to build a pond and give them a permanent home there.
Chinatown is a district in the centre of Newcastle with a good selection of Chinese restaurants. The district is well signposted for pedestrians. There is an ornate gate across one of the entrance roads.
I have tried several of the restaurants and my favourite is the Ho Buffet, close to the gate at 41 - 43 Gallowgate, tel 0191 2212270. They usually have a couple of prawn dishes which you don’t often find in the low price buffets. There is plenty of choice with around 40 dishes on offer. A meal, costs between £6 - £10 per person, depending on the time you eat and the day of the week.

About a month ago I walked past a cab driver playing a trumpet in the front seat of his taxi. He was on break, I gathered, because the "For Hire" fin on the top of his car was off and his head was down, his lips pursed around the brass mouthpiece of his instrument. He was parked on the corner of Grant and Sutter, near the gates of Chinatown, and he was black with a brown leather cap tilted down
Well, we're back after a little hiatus this weekend, and we'll be covering some great cheap food in the heart of New York City's sprawling Chinatown.
Ahhh...Chinatown, where else in overpriced New York City can you get CHEAP and incredibly good, authentic food for just a few dollars. If you're ever hungry and a bit short on money, take a ride down to Chinatown, and be prepared for great eats.
