      Vegetarians have higher childhood IQ
Vegetarians have higher childhood IQ, .although a third seem to suffer from conceptual problems! A paper published in December 2006 by the British Medical Journal reported that children with higher IQs tend to go on to become vegetarian.Adults who classified themselves as vegetarian tended to be five points higher in IQ when they were tested at age 10.Interestingly, the results remained stable after education and social class were controlled for. However, a third of people who classified themselves as vegetarian ate chicken or fish, suggesting most people work with a reasonably flexible definition. This study is from a research group in Southhampton who are looking at the link between childhood factors and adult brain development.

Maltreatment in childhood linked to adult depression, heart disease
A history of neglect or abuse in childhood appears to be associated with depression and inflammation in adulthood, a combination that may increase cardiovascular risk, according to a report in the April issue of Archives of General Psychiatry. "Major depression is a multisystemic disorder that affects both brain and bodily functions," the authors write as background information in the article. Depression and cardiovascular disease often occur simultaneously, and inflammation, a chronic activation of the immune system, has been linked to both. "However, not all individuals with depression have elevated levels of inflammation. Those who do could be at highest risk for cardiovascular disease." Andrea Danese, MD, MSc, of King's College London, and colleagues studied 1,000 New Zealand resident

      Of Childhood
What peaceful hours I enjoy'dHow sweet their mem'ry still!(WILLIAM COWPER)Sweet memories, especially those of childhood, never forsake us. Only diamonds are forever, but childhood memories too are. The latter contribute towards letting us stay a kid at heart for the whole of our life. The nostalgic aura of the cherubic childhood adds a touch of blitheness to the otherwise lacklustre and monotonous adulthood in this mechanical modern world. The modern day loneliness is gone with the wind as one reminisces the days 'when God was in his heaven and all was well with the world' (Robert Browning). It is in the childhood that the foundations of a future are laid. We have to construct the palaces of our dreams on these very foundations, so they have to be really solid. Moreover, the base of anythin

      CHILDHOOD OBESITY STUDY HELPS YOUNGSTERS
Children at an Exeter school are feeling happier and healthier after researchers working on a project to tackle childhood obesity helped them change the way they live.Instead of watching TV or playing video games and snacking on fizzy drinks or sweets, pupils at Whipton Barton now join in sports and eat fruit. The success of the project, by a team from the Peninsula Medical School, means it might be copied in hundreds of other schools across the UK.Researchers have spent two years working in schools in the city to develop resources for teachers to help convince children to be healthier. Children at Whipton Barton took part in rugby sessions with the Exeter Chiefs and drama and dancing sessions to help them understand the benefits of eating properly. Jenny Lloyd, in charge of the project,
