I haven't even given birth to this child yet and I've already gotten my first flaming piece of assvice. Which, you know, would be totally poetic - seeing as this weekend is the weekend of a virtual assvicefest of a baby shower that is being held partly in my honor - if the nature of the assvice weren't so freaktastically disturbing.Yesterday, I wrote a little post that was intended to thank my sweet friends for throwing this shower. I preambled with some babble about how miserable I've been and how badly I want this behemoth infant out of my body and included a few lines about an exchange that I'd had with my doctor that morning that went something along the lines of oh hai doctur pleez get this babee out of mah body and no srsly doctur I can haz C-section? Meditation for childbirth
Saturday hubby and I attended an all-day childbirth preparation class. After a difficult day at the office Friday, I must admit I wasn't looking forward to spending half of my weekend indoors in class when I could be wallowing in the past. Luckily I woke up Saturday bright and early and felt better about life and more excited about the class. Plus we prepaid so it would have been stupid not to at least go for the morning portion.About 10 other couples showed up and most were due within the next month (just like me!) or two. During the introductions, we had to share our fears and concerns about the labor and delivery so I said I wasn't really worried about the labor but the hub is so that was the main reason we were there. Sounded like other soon-to-be dads felt the same way in the room.Def

Good Morning America recently did a story on Unassisted Childbirth. You can read the article here. I'll keep my opinion of the "expert doctor" to myself, but I'm wondering what you think of his statement. The article also states:The baby could be born in a breach position, or with the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck. The mother could suffer from significant tearing or from a maternal hemorrhage and bleed to death in as little as five minutes. As for the baby being born in a breech position, the fact is that doctors nowadays are not really taught how to vaginally deliver breech babies. Only in certain situations is it not possible to vaginally deliver a breech baby. Many women give birth to breech babies at home, without any complications. Top Tips To Treat And Prevent Childbirth Pain
Giving birth to a child can be one of the most joyful experiences of a woman’s life, but it is undeniably one of the most painful. And the lingering controversy surrounding the role of pain medication during the childbirth does not help matters. Should you opt for pain medication, or shouldn’t you? Answers vary, depending on whom you ask. It is believed that pain medication prevents a woman from fully participating in the birth of her child and may also harm the baby. Others believe that medication helps kill the pain while it keeps a woman alert and lowers the risk of fetal injury. Whether you opt for pain medication is a personal decision that you need to discuss with your doctor early in your pregnancy. But whatever you decide, you owe it to yourself to know all of your options.Being physically and emotionally ready for childbirth can significantly reduce a woman’s perception of pain. That is why many doctors recommend that mothers-to-be and their partners take

The Pros and Cons of Caesarean Childbirth
Vaginal childbirth, in which the new baby emerges through the uterus and vaginal opening, has been the most common method of childbirth for millennia. But Caesarean sections which is delivery by creating an opening through the abdominal wall, has been used for centuries, too. But no matter how long each practice has been used, every new mother will wrestle with the same issues, both physical and emotional. There are many factors involved in making the difficult decision between vaginal and Caesarean delivery. The level of pain experienced isn't simply a matter of being 'tough' or committed to 'natural' childbirth. It can have an effect on the baby's well-being, too. Being in labor for hours on end, enduring painful contractions, carries risks. Stress produces hormones that the baby is exposed to, along with the mother. Contractions can produce harmful effects on the child and mother. Rectal tearing, in which the mother tears rectal tissue from straining, is a potential problem.Vagi

      Childbirth Is Disgusting
It is according to Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren. The 62 year old actress was so traumatized by a sex-education film that she watched as a convent school girl that she has sworn off motherhood for good. She was about 13 or 14, “just at that age when you’re just beginning to be self-conscious about your physicality and about boys and all that. And they sat us all down, boys and girls, all about 13, 14 years old in this horrible school hall. And then this tweed-skirted dykey sort of woman, short cropped hair, comes on and says, ‘I’m Dr Joyce’ or whatever, ‘and what you’re about to see is one of the greatest miracles. I’ve seen it many times you know because I’m a doctor and giving birth is one of the most beautiful things’.” Dame Helen recalls how the group were wondering what she was talking about and then the film began. To this day she can remember it - the whirring of the projector and a close-up of a woman having

The Choice To Have An Unassisted Childbirth
Unassisted childbirth is an option that some people take that is essentially, delivering a baby without any supervision or medical assistance whatsoever. As with any childbirth plan, this is a choice that has both pros as well as cons. One of the cons is that unassisted childbirth is illegal in some places. In some countries and states, you may not deliver a baby unless medically trained and qualified. In an unassisted childbirth, a plan is made to have a child without any assistance from a doctor or midwife and doing so could result in prosecution. While this is common in some underdeveloped countries, it's now becoming more common in countries such as the USA where some women's groups support the right of the mother to make her own choice about how she will give birth to her child. Another obvious con might be the fact that if something goes wrong with the labor and delivery, the mother as well as the child could be at serious risk. Many believers in unassisted childbirth h

Many people look online for information on these options. Underwater childbirth is one such popular option where the process of giving birth to your baby occurs while you and potentially your spouse are in a tub filled with warm water. Underwater childbirth is considered by some as a philosophy of non-intervention in childbirth and a more natural transition for the newborn baby. It's said; by many, that an underwater childbirth results in much less maternal pain during labor and is associated with a reduction in the number of women requiring an epidural.
