Sometimes it's difficult to run a website that is all about recipes when in fact you rarely 'follow' a recipe. LOL. Oh, I use them for 'guides' but as I've stated many times, I use 2 or 3 or 4 to read, get ideas from and then 'wing it'. I like for my readers to do that too! It's how I've taught my girls to cook and it's how I'm hoping a few of you are cooking as well. The kitchen is a place t
Chaat is a word used in many parts of India, Pakistan and South Asia to refer to street food snacks, the literal translation of the word is 'lick' or 'taste', I suppose because that is what you do.
This chicken chaat would usually be served in a chapati and I have had it before as a starter in Indian restaurants. Unfortunately, I have not yet been to India! It is a very quick meal to make and

Recently my father announced that he missed chicken feet. (What?!) His mother, my grandmother who was born in 1899 and lived to the age of 97, used chicken feet when she made her stock and my dad could always tell when a soup had been made with stock from chicken feet. It has its own unique and wonderful flavor, and the added gelatin from the feet give whatever dish is made with

Happy Mother's Day!My friend Deborah, at Taste and Tell, has started breaking her weekend blogging silence with something she likes to call Bad Photo Sunday. She explains it perfectly - we strive to share beautiful dishes with the world, so our less-stunning recipes lie fallow. I couldn't agree more that this is a perfect way to ration them out! Sure, we food bloggers have our Daring Bakers, we have our Tuesdays with Dorie, our Weekend Herb Blogging, Presto Pasta Night and our Waiter, there is something in my's, but Bad Photo Sunday? It is a genius way to accept that not everything is perfect, and that we're happy to admit it!"Goulash" doesn't even sound pretty, does it?Having learned how delicious chicken thighs were, I was instantly attracted to this recipe. Not to mention the dumplings.

"Your website readers are going to love this," my father exclaimed when he finally finished his plate of chicken smothered in creamy mushroom sauce. Mom found the recipe from one of her favorite cookbooks* now long out of print. The note in the cookbook regarding this recipe is "Brides might well add this to their kitchen repertoire. It is easy to fix and never fails to make a hit." We all agree. Our six thumbs up on this one. It has been a while since we posted on the beer can chicken, and to be frank we have not gotten around to trying it yet. Maybe this summer. Here's a gadget that's supposed to solve a problem we didn't even know existed. Apparently beer can chicken produces spillage that in turn causes flare-ups on the grill. The Steven Raichlen Beer Can Chicken Rack with Drip Pan is supposed to stop flare-ups since spillage collects on the tray. The tray will also collect meat juices so you could make sauce afterwards. It can be quite fun if you can afford the time to go back to the origin of Nam Heong Chicken rice. It felt like it was some kinda pilgrimage of some sort. It can be quite nostalgic if you know what I mean. After so many years of eating their chicken rice at that particular stall, they suddenly turned themselves around, over the last few years, and opened up so many branches, now you can eat Nam Heong, in your favorite shopping Mall, like MV, Sg Wang, etc....We were in Petaling Street, and decided to pop by this shop. Avid readers already know that Jessica and I avoid most fast food like the plague. Just like the plague, sometimes one can't help but catch it. So when a coupon for a free McDonald's Southern-Style Biscuit made it into my hands, I was lured in. So this morning I went an extra block out of the way to pick up the gift from America's kitchen away from home.Mickey D's was damn fast. My hot sandwich was in my hands in about 45 seconds, just enough time to pull it from the deep frier, wrap it in wax paper to hold the oil in, and hand it over. The sandwich's flavor was pretty good. It is exactly what the picture above looks like: aggressively deep-fried chicken on a biscuit. While it tasted like fried chicken, it was somehow dry. And while the biscuit was decent, although salty, it was als

This recipe comes from my good friend R, and it is very tasty! The chicken can only really be eaten with your fingers, no knives and forks for these, just make sure you have some paper towels to hand to wipe up after, as they are very sticky and juicy! The smoked paprika is the key here, it (surprisingly enough) adds a really smokey flavour to the chicken. You can really smell this as they

I really love chicken cooked with herbs dishes. They just taste and smell so nice not to mentioned good for general health. This is one of the herbal dish I cook rather often. I used to steam it before I have an oven. This time I did it a little different. I roast it! I used the way I did the Roast Chicken with Garlic to make this. It's still taste the same except now we have crispy skin. Okay, it's a bit burned here. :PThis chicken meat is soft, moist and filled with the sweetness of herbs! If I were to do the the conventional way which is steaming, I won't get this result just in 1 to 1 1/2 hours. That's why previously, when I do this, it's at least 3 hours in low fire. And don't forget the soup! That's the best part! Drink it up! There isn't much to go around so you might have to fight

I always hesitate when it comes to posting following a Daring Bakers challenge. It all starts over each month, but it weirds me out the few days after. To get back in the saddle, I bring you a meal I made last Saturday. A meal I am really excited about. I don't often roast chickens... I don't often roast any whole birds, if we're going off specifics here. I don't know why this recipe spoke to me, but I am pleased that it did. Growing up, my grandmother would often roast chickens, and I really loved how the smell filled the house. My hope was to replicate that memory.I read the reviews of this recipe online and followed their tweak recommendations (and a

Who could resist this combination? The seductively earthy tones of porcini, along with Marsala, in all its rich complexity. In Italy, a standard chicken from the local Polleria will have enough flavour to do justice to the dish - but I suspect that in the UK you'll need to shell out for a free-range bird if you want something with sufficient flavour to punch in the same weight as the other ingredients here. The recipe is very straightforward, good enough for a dinner party, and robust enough that you can do the entire thing in advance, and just reheat gently when the time comes to serve it. Since there's a lot going on in this particular dish, then I think it goes best with a vegetable which is plain but good - broccoli, for example, or green beans (something which has a slight crunch

After careful consideration I decide that their behaviour has been exceptional and that a treat is in order. I research our options before I collect them from school. I want to be very clear about this, I don’t know a thing about Asian cuisine. Not one thing. I do know that when I spoke to a coworker who went to China for a graduate school trip, she told me that the food that we are used to eating at our local take-out is not what she experienced in country. Wow! No General Tso’s chicken? Um, no… She told me that it was really different.
Now here in the Atlanta area, we have an area which is predominantly culturally Asian. For those who are familiar with this area, I am speaking of the Buford highway area; or at least a small part of it. That area also has a rather large Latin community as well. It isn’t like it was for me when I lived back home in Philly where we had a Chinatown. I guess this area is similar, just not near

Hillary Clinton has been the butt of a number of sexist, anti-feminist remarks since launching her campaign for president.
However, a Chicken Express restaurant in Bridgeport, Texas, has taken it beyond the extreme:

I usually don’t urge readers to “call” some place and complain about something, but in this case, especially as a Hillary Clinton supporter, I urge you to make the phones at Chicken Express in Bridgeport ring off the wall: 940-683-5012. Also, if you are so inclined, call their corporate headquarters: (817) 594-9300.
Tell them that their sexist garbage is out of place in America.

Across the road from Katong Mall – at the corner before the traffic light lies a coffee shop with a signboard that screams “126 Beer Garden”!!! Situated along East Coast Road – a gem is holed within this very cosy coffee shop – Hai Kee (Soy) Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle.Formerly from Upper Cross Street, what strikes me amid the new and colourful signage was the doggy looking yellow board placed behind – rustic and oily facade – a trademark of tradition!I proceed to order a plate of Dry Soy Sauce Chicken Noodle ($3) and I wasn’t disappointed by the noodles. The texture of the noodles was very pliable and bouncy – cooked just right to give it that extra bite. However, I was a little dismayed that some of the chicken pieces were smashed before being chopped up, so what yo
Things have become pretty slow all of a sudden! I guess I have become used to being so busy offlate on the blogging front, that suddenly things seem just too relaxing! Really I have enjoyed doing it, checking for entries, reading through each of them, labeling it. Well it was fun when it lasted. I have learnt more in this one year of blogging than my entire life time spent otherwise! My blog has brought forth so many wonderful people out there, and reading and seeing what they are doing, makes me feel that I haven't really done anything much. I enjoy the interactions I have had with many of my readers and fellow bloggers. Few bloggers have become close friends, with whom I chat over mails. But in general, I have enjoyed all the comments and suggestions that's poured my way! While my general

WASHINGTON -- Chicken jerky treats may have sickened dozens of dogs, federal health officials warned Wednesday despite failing to find any trace of contamination. The Food and Drug Administration said it's fielded more than 70 complaints, involving more than 95 dogs, from owners who believe their animals fell sick after eating the products, sold variously as chicken tenders, strips or treats. While most dogs appear to have recovered, an unspecified number died.I have personally read and much more than 70 complaints - if your dog ate these treats and got sick and you believe it is related, you MUST call the FDA.
