Is it that they understand that their Gun Ban is an infringement on the "Right Of The People", and their only choice is to do away with the proof. The Mayor of Chicago and any one wishing to infringe on the Right's of the People can rest assured--"The Peo

YES, I KNOW 'CRAZY LIBERAL' IS REDUNDANTEven the Chicago Tribune knows that this church is out of their mindsSince the church attendees were cheering this raving lunatic Pfleger on, they are as guilty as he is. His words were so vile, the Chicago Tribune cannot ignore it. This editorial is probably damage control as much as it is a rebuke of Pfleger, but it's good to see nonetheless. That church i

After several stories in the MSM and blogs yesterday erroneously said Pershings Bill Ackman flew to Sears Holdings (SHLD) annual meeting to confront Chairman Edward Lampert "because you will not take our calls", the Tribune issued a correction.
"A story in Tuesday's business section mischaracterized the reason activist investor William Ackman attended the annual meeting of Sears Holdings Corp. Ackman said he flew to Hoffman Estates from New York to hear Sears Chairman Edward Lampert speak. He...

Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails are reported to be two of the "headliners" at Lollapalooza 2008, according to a wishy-washy report published by The Chicago Tribune last night. The Tribune article seems to play in to the non-stop rumor game - not a good thing for a journalism organization. The headline of the article itself implies Radiohead will headline Lollapalooza, the opening paragraph of the story states they are "expected" to perform at Lolla and the following paragraph states Radiohead has been "confirmed" and in the same paragraph the Tribune's catch word of the day - "expected" - appears again. That's not just lousy journalism, but the hype comes suspiciously close to the implication that the Tribune is trying to pump some life into a local festival that some readers of this blog have

The Chicago Tribune has an in depth profile of Ron Paul in today's paper. Hit the link for more..." No more Department of Education. No more Federal Reserve Bank. No more Medicare or Medicaid. No more membership in the United Nations or NATO. No more federal drug laws. And, no more U.S. troops in Iraq -- or anywhere else on foreign soil. The Internal Revenue Service would be history in the first week that Ron Paul sits behind the desk in the Oval Office. And the dismantling of the above-mentioned entities and relationships -- plus a long list of others -- soon would commence."read more | digg story
Better late than never. While some have been tracking "The Dark Knight" progression exhaustively since June 8, 2007, the Chicago Tribune on Sunday finally got around to recognizing the major Chicago entertainment news.Screenshot of ChicagoTribune.com captured on July 29, 2007 at 6:26 p.m.Unfortunately, Chicago Tribune entertainment columnist Terry Armour and Becky Schlikerman spent nearly 1,300 words informing those who have been following the filming about what they mostly already knew. For those who haven't, the coverage could be considered an excellent wrap-up.While the distinction between the official title of "The Dark Knight" and the working title of "Rory's First Kiss" would have been better served in a single sentence, the article devoted nearly half its space to fleshing out this minor and entirely typical point. The article did mention that the film's budget is "reported to be well in excess of $100 million" and included interviews with the city's usual
In these days of global warming theatrics and perhaps downplaying of environment issues from the other side it becomes more and more apparent each day that someone needs to stand up and speak honestly about these issues. On the other hand what we do on this planet has to have some kind of impact one would think, but to what degree is the question. It is for this reason that environmental standards are set and those that do not heed those standards and laws are rightfully punished; when caught anyway. The main stream media says that it reports in an unbiased and even handed way, yet day in and day out one sees via the voice of the author and the words used often connote a very different impression. We’ve grown so used to it that we barely notice anymore unless we happen to know much of the detail already, which of course is possible with all the sources of information available at our fingertips with the help of the internet. I often find myself thinking the OpEd page
I missed connections with Tribune reporter Clifford Ward yesterday, so I didn't get to contribute to today's article in the big paper. But I was pleased to learn he had been a Kentucky School News and Commentary reader...to some degree. The Tribune story is mostly a recap, but also contained some new information. As KSN&C readers know, after weeks of questions about Barbara Erwin's résumé, the revelation of a secret 2005 contract vote, what appears to be evidence of an attempt to defraud the Illinois Teachers Retirement system, and a police investigation of her missing personnel file, Erwin resigned the Kentucky post last week.As St Charles school board member Chris Hansen told the Tribune, "There are some bad feelings in the community, because some people think [Erwin] took advantage of the system."The board voted in secret on April 11, 2005, to extend Erwin's contract and award her 85 sick days for each school year from 2006-08. This June, the board of education publicly apologiz
In today's Chicago Tribune, Julia Kenner writes:You don't have to love books. It's OK just to like them. It's OK to be a casual reader, a sometime scholar, an occasional consumer of print. It's acceptable to read a book every once in a while, for the simple reason that you happen upon one that intrigues you -- without quitting your job, selling your furniture and going back to graduate school in comparative literature.Um, okay. Later:Yet the arts often come swaddled in snobbery. There are critics, unfortunately, who encourage this snooty exclusivity: If you've not attended the symphony for a while, if your nightstand isn't stacked with literary classics, if you've let your Art Institute membership lapse, you're made to feel as if you really ought to just shuffle along to the ball game, beer in hand, and leave the highbrow stuff to the masters.Such class-based bunk makes me bristle. The arts can be part of your life even if they aren't all of your life. Even a little bit of ar

Chicago Tribune: Mythical trip started with an error - The trip to Libya that Obama didn't take illustrates how the Net can make a small mistake worseExcerpt:"There's a story pinging around the Internet about how Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) paid a visit to Libya in 1984 and met with Louis Farrakhan, the Chicago-based Nation of Islam leader whose anti-Semitic remarks have long inflamed relations between blacks and Jews. But it wasn't Obama who took the 1984 trip. It was his pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.The error made its way to the Internet a couple of weeks ago, when a conservative Christian leader -- who was actually trying to defend Obama's position on Israel -- apparently confused the two men when speaking to a reporter for a religious news Web site."http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0704090407apr10,1,7557285.story?coll=chi-newsnationworld-hedAlex

The Chicago Tribune has launched a gardening blog on their website authored by Beth Botts. I've known it was coming for a little while because she e-mailed me and fellow garden blogger Carolyn Choi (who guest blogged an entry on this blog) and asked us a few questions about garden blogging. In the Home & Garden section of today's Chicago Tribune Beth wrote a sidebar on Carolyn and listed other garden bloggers. One of those listed at the end of the sidebar was me. I'd like to congratulate Carolyn on the mention and welcome Beth to the garden-blogosphere and thank her for printing my blog's url. It's great to have another garden blog being authored from Chicago. Considering how many public and private gardens are maintained in Chicago it's a little puzzling why there are so few of us to be found on the internet. When I started my blog back in the summer of '05 I began a to search for other blogs related solely to gardening in Chicago and didn't find many. But I'm hoping that
