      2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Certified for an Outrageous 638 hp, 604 lb-ft
Official horsepower and torque figures prove even higher than the estimates. We bow low to GM’s powertrain gods. As if there weren’t enough superlatives surrounding the 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR1, we learn General Motors undersold the grunt of its most expensive and most powerful production Corvette ever. We were already enthralled as we dreamed of an estimated 620 hp at 6500 rpm and 600 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm from its supercharged LS9 6.2-liter V-8. Not so fast, says GM to anyone wed to those impressive figures—it’s actually more powerful! Having completed SAE certification for the first factory-built Vette with forced induction, the true numbers are a dizzying 638 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque. Do the math and that’s nearly 103 horses per liter, or just about 1.7 hp for each of

It is augmented with an integrated charge cooling system that reduces inlet air temperature for maximum performance. A sixth-generation supercharger developed by Eaton helps the LS9 make big power and torque at lower rpm and carries it in a wide arc to 6,600 rpm, as it pushes enough air to help the engine maintain po

      ZR1 Chevrolet Corvette
Production of ZR1 is limited to just 2000 units a year. It is a 600 and above horsepower super Corvette. It cost $100,000. Stellar Z06 Corvette that features an aluminum chassis and 505 horsepower from a 7.0-liter small-block V-8 is already the car’s platform. Forced induction by means of a new Eaton 4-lobe supercharger mounted on a revised 6.2-liter V-8 takes ZR1the next step and uses. Horsepower isn’t popular yet, but claimed to be well up 600, to keep all that power in check are some massive brake rotors sourced from Brembo. As the matter of fact, Bugatti Veyron and barely fit inside the 19-in. front wheels are nearly the same rotors used. The rear brake rotors fit comfortably in the 20-in. wheels and are the same as those used on the front of a Ferrari Enzo. The Z06 is an excellent

Chevrolet will unveil a more powerful version of the Z06 called the Blue Devil. The supercar will debut in the middle of 2008 as a 2009 model and will be priced around $100,000. The Blue Devil comes as a direct response at the Dodge Viper unveiled at Detroit Auto Show. There won’t be any official exports of the car to Europe.Chevrolet will increase the LS7’s displacement and bolt on a supercharger to bump output by 145 hp. So the 7.0 litre V8 engine will now deliver 650 hp. This will help the car to make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds and have a top speed of 215 mph.The Blue Devil will pack more than just a powerful punch. While fiberglass has long been used in Corvettes for its light weight and relatively cheap cost, body panels for the Blue Devil will be constructed out of carbon fiber. This will help the supercar to reduce the curb weight from 3132 lbs (the 2007 Z06) to 2900 lbs.It will be built at GM’s Performance Center in Wixom, Michigan, with annual production numbe

Examples of engine power include the 400 hp (298 kW) LS2 or 505 hp (377 kW) LS7. Older generations of the Corvette have been criticized for being crude and lacking in refinement by European sports car standards, and their on-limit handling is a divisive issue garnering both praise and reproach. Recent generations of the Corvette, however, are widely seen as being much improved in these areas.Corvettes tend to emphasize simplicity over technical complexity. Chevrolet Corvette Coupe and Convertible
Chevy’s mad scientists have been hard at work tweaking the C6 Corvette for its fourth model year, and the results are finally in. The most important figures: 6.2 liters of displacement, 430 hp, and 424 lb-ft of torque from its V-8 engine, which now carries the LS3 moniker. (For those without Corvette statistics tattooed to their brains, the C6’s previous LS2 V-8 displaced 6.0 liters and pumped out 400 ponies and 400 lb-ft of twist.)Besides the bump in displacement—achieved through increasing the bore from 101.62mm to 103.25mm—the aluminum-block LS3 gets better-flowing, LS7-style heads; new cam and camshaft timing; and an easier-breathing intake. Updates to the valvetrain (bigger cylinders mean bigger valves), fuel injectors swiped directly from the 505-hp LS7 V-8, and revisions to the block for more strength round out the changes between the Vette’s shapely front fenders. The LS3’s power and torque curves faithfully mirror those of the LS2, so power delivery is not much diff

Spied- 2009 Chevrolet Corvette SS (Blue Devil)
Inside Line posted several spy shots of the upcoming high-performace variant of the Corvette caught testing outside GM's Milford Proving Grounds. They also realized the mule featured here was the one that was snapped by an employee of an air cargo company that was hired to transport the mule to Germany. Several undisguised shots were posted including the glory shots of the engine. The employee was later sent to prison for breach of security.Nonetheless, like the previous car, this mule has covers on the hood and side scoops. Under the hood, we expect a 6.2L V8 that will definitely churn out more horsepowers than the Z06 variant. The new Corvette SS (name still unconfirmed) will debut at next year's Detroit Autoshow with production to kick off summer of 2008. Head on over to Edmunds to see the images yourself, and oh, get yourself a pair of undies ready.[Source: Edmunds]
