      Beijing Show 2008 Highlights: 2009 Chery A3
This is Chery's second big launch of the show, also with Italian design input, but here from Pininfarina rather than Torino Design. The A3 is a compact C-segment model available in four-door or five-door bodystyles and the co-ordinated presentation of the cars - all in silver - was very good and gave a sophisticated impression to the booth. The exterior design picks up a number of current design cues that are typical of current Chinese car design: the DLO kicks up at the rear, similar to the new Roewe 550 or the GAIG 4-Door Coupe concept. The bodyside is sculpted and there is a hidden rear door handle, like the Alfa 156. The wide clamshell hood has a character line from the A-pillar that drops down into the front mask and the upper grille has an interesting wave section, with a h

Beijing Show 2008 Highlights: 2009 Chery Faira
Chery is China's top selling domestic brand, with sales of over 300,000 last year. The company is best known for its small cars, and is already exporting cars to markets such as Russia and Southeast Asia, particularly the successful QQ model that bears a striking resemblance to GM's Chevrolet/Daewoo Matiz model. But Chery is changing fast and has become one of the first Chinese makers to realize that it needs to embrace design in a more professional way in order to develop their image, both in China and for export markets. The new Faria range is a key component of that strategy, as is the larger Pininfarina-designed A3 model, also launched in Beijing this week. The Faria is a whole new family of seven B-segment models, styled by Torino Design in Italy, and represents a clever use

      Chrysler and Chery bond closer
American automaker Chrysler inked a pact with Chinese automaker Chery last year for selling its cars China. Part of the understanding was Chery's small car A1, would in turn be sold in the United States re-badged Dodge. The deal has everyone looking now-Chrysler is taking this up seriously and with a solid reason. The demand for small cars in the United States is rising as is fuel costs. The Chery A1 is infact in the final stages of its tests program which is required for it to be sold overseas. The compact sedan A3 will be Chery's next product after the A1.The Chery A1 looks like a Chevrolet Spark/Matiz clone. As long as it is safe, reliable, cheap to run and exciting to drive, there shouldn't be a problem.

Chery Shooting Sport Concept revealed ahead of Shanghai
Chery has released the first photos of the Shooting Sport Concept it will be unveiling later this week in Shanghai, and it's quite faithful to the sketches the automaker released earlier in the month. An attractive three-door with a particularly Prius-esque look up front, the Shooting Sport appears to be production-ready save for some of the more concept-like elements inside the passenger cabin. For example, the fancy gauges, abundant white leather, green trim, and yellow mood lighting would likely go in favor of more conventional-looking, less costly materials. That said, the basic shapes of the console and IP are not unorthodox and could likely carry over.[Source: Autoblog]Continued- Article, more imagesPower 8-way seats, a normal-looking DVD navigation system, and a 60/40 split back seat are among the other features on the concept that would probably transfer to a future production car. Chrysler and China's Chery agrees to collaborate on small cars
DaimlerChrysler's Supervisory Board today approved plans for a partnership with China's Chery Motor Company to develop affordable, small vehicles. The news follows the announcement of a preliminary agreement between the two companies in December.Under the partnership, Chery-built vehicles will be distributed under Chrysler brands, primarily in North America and Western Europe.Although the long-rumored Chery deal was expected to lead to a production version of the Dodge Hornet concept, Chrysler CEO Tom LaSorda said in January the projects were not related."The Hornet is a great statement of our design," LaSorda said. "It is also a statement that it’s something that we’re going to continue to take a look at, and depending on the business case going, we’ll look at that independently from this particular project."The new small vehicles will allow Chrysler Group brands to "compete in segments in which the brands do not currently compete, and which are especially important in price-
