Government Denies Current Longline Permits for Atlantic Closed Zone Government Chartered Longline Vessel Will Conduct Research
Future Access Still an IssueThe National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has denied issuing Exempted Fishing Permits (EFP) to 13 pelagic longline vessels to fish within closed zones off the east coast of Florida. The recreational fishing community expressed strong opposition to the permit application noting that the zones were closed to provide protection for critical habitat for juvenile swordfish, sailfish, blue marlin and white marlin. At the time the agency considered the permits, it was reassessing white marlin under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Longlining in the closed zone would have increased white marlin mortality, as well as that of other species, so it made no sense to approve a “federal action” that would have negatively impacted white marlin. The recreational fishing community applauds the agency for its decision to close the zones in 2000 and now for denying the EFPs. We're not out of the woods yet... Even so, the issue is not settled o

Standard Chartered raises profile in Indian banking
Standard Chartered, which earns most of its profit in Asia, is negotiating for a stake in UTI Securities to increase its retail banking business in India, said Murali Natrajan, regional head for consumer banking.  The British bank, which started its private banking business in India on Friday with 200 clients with assets of more than $1 million each, expects the number to increase to 1,000 by the end of next year. The bank also plans to double the number of relationship managers in India to 50 from 25, he said. “Equity broking will be an important product in our wealth management and private banking, and we need to complete the gap,” Natrajan said Friday. “It’s a strategic initiative, and at this stage, we can’t say anything more.” Banks in India, including Standard Chartered, Citigroup and Merrill Lynch, seek to offer services to the rising number of affluent people in the world’s fastest-growing major economy after China.  India’s $

Bug in SCB (Standard Chartered Bank) ATM Booth
Day before yesterday I went to SCB (Standard Chartered Bank) ATM Booth to draw 20K BDT at a time. The ATM Booth was working fine, it returned my ATM/Debit Card then printed a slip where i got it Updated up to my recent transaction. But suddenly what i saw the money was not coming at all. Standard Chartered Says Buy Rupiah
Standard Chartered Plc recommends investors buy the Indonesian rupiah because the central bank will allow the currency to strengthen. Investor inflows into the nation's stocks and bonds have helped the rupiah appreciate 3.8 percent this month, the best performance in the world. Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Aslim Tadjuddin said today the currency's rise is positive for the economy. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said a strengthening rupiah will help slow inflation and boost growth. ``There appears to have been a change in foreign-exchange stance by the Indonesian authorities,'' wrote Standard Chartered currency strategists, led by Callum Henderson in Singapore, in a research report today.

Academia Semillas del Pueblo Testing Un-Chartered Waters… [Updated & Bumped]
What an OUTRAGE! It is not just about the low performance. It is about what they teach in this school, and the hidden agenda behind it. It can no way be considered an American public school by any means! What the hell is their (LAUSD’s) malfunction??? Update!: The board dealt with another potential controversy Thursday when it voted to renew an El Sereno school’s charter less than three weeks after district staff advised against doing so. In a March 13 report on Academia Semillas del Pueblo, the staff cited low test scores, unconventional instruction and potentially conflicting school governance. About two weeks later, facing growing political pressure from former City Councilman Richard Alatorre, former Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg and others, the staff changed course. Under the five-year renewal conditions, Semillas must meet benchmarks that for three years would place it at least at the median of comparable schools in terms of state and national standards. Testing Un-Chartered Waters…
Here’s hoping… LAUSD Considers Closing Charter School Academia Semillas del Pueblo in El Sereno is an LAUSD charter school that is facing closure. It is one of several schools in the district being evaluated on the basis of charter renewal. Supporters of the school have attended a hearing and been calling on LAUSD school board members to extend Academia’s charter for another five years. An organization of concerned parents has spoken out against an evaluation process based solely on an English-only standardized test. They sure have some humongous cajones, don’t they? As opposed to what alternative evaluation process I’d like to know. And just to enlighten those who must not be aware of the fact, that we speak ENGLISH here. This is AMERICA after all. There will be a large rally and march on March 29th at noon at the La Placita Olvera, to urge LAUSD to renew the Academia Semillas del Pueblo charter. Thanks to the fine folks at UprisingRadio, all taxpaying

      Chartered Semi
Chartered Semiconductor (CHRT.O): Buy: Limited Near Term Catalysts but 2H07 Growth Remains Intact. Share price performance – Upbeat 1Q07 guidance and wider outsourcing opportunities drove CHRT's YTD share price to outperform regional foundries. AMD's wafer cuts in 2Q07, however, suggest limited nearterm price appreciation, in our view. While TSMC should benefit from a utilisation pick up in 2Q07 on the back of an industry recovery, CHRT's prospects are weaker, although we believe they are poised to recover in the latter part of the year.
