A better solution would be to use solar power, a commodity that's abundant in most of the parts of the world that need it. While this seems like a common sense approach to charging your cell phone, it isn't the best way to maximize your cell phone's battery life. Charging your cell phone effectively isn't hard but there are a few things you should consider doing, and habits you should break, to make sure your cell phone's battery lasts as long as it can. Cell phone batteries have a memory and are designed to fully charge each time you plug them in. You should only charge your

Capital One Credit Cards to Start Charging Foreign Exchange Fees
Capital One will start charging credit card foreign exchange fees at some point in the near future. Although it has not been publicly announced yet, Capital One has informed their marketing partners that they will start charging foreign exchange fees for credit card purchases outside of the U.S. at some point soon. This deals a major blow to credit card consumers who have relied on Capital One credit cards as being one of the last major credit card issuers that still doesn’t charge foreign exchange fees. Credit card issuers started charging foreign exchange fees years ago to make up for the fees that MasterCard and Visa charge them. Plus, they usually add an additional fee on top of this. Only a few major issuers, like Capital One and Discover, still do not charge foreign exchange fees. The credit card foreign exchange fees for several major credit card issuers are listed below. 2% - American Express 2% - Pulaski Bank 3% - Citi Cards 3% - Chase 3% - Bank of America 3% - HSBC 3% -

Google will start charging for extra storage!
Until now we all were using the Gmail gigs of storage without any hassle, but Microsoft’s recent release of the SkyDrive, which is an online storage, Google also announced its going to charge extra for more storage on two of its services, that is Google Mail(Gmail) and Picasa. The prices are starting at 20$ a year for extra 6Gb storage over the normal 2.8 gb for Gmail and 1 Gb for Picasa. Other plans which provide an extra 25Gb ranges for 75$ annually, and 100gb for 250$ and a whopping 250gb for 500$. In March, Yahoo! Inc had announced that it had given Yahoo Mail users unlimited storage, however they did flag users they felt were using the account solely for file storing purposes rather than Emails. Google on the other hand encourages people to store files and images, but when we exceed the limits, ofcourse we have to pay. My Employer Might Start Charging Me Money For Being Fat
I read from Business Week that Clarian Health is going to deduct $10 from every paycheck if the employee’s body mass index (BMI, a ratio of height to weight that measures body fat) is over 30 starting in 2009. I had to read the article twice to make sure I did not read it wrong (you can read the whole thing here). This is totally insane! How can a company penalize someone for being too fat? I can understand that you don’t want employees that are unhealthy because their productivity is not as high but the real solution is to not hire them in the first place. The article also mentions that $5 will be deducted per paycheck if the person smokes. I’m all for reducing smoking in the country but this is just too radical for me. It’s the exact same thing as someone telling me that I will be fined because I drink coffee at work, or like Godiva chocolate instead of Hersey’s. I’m sorry for ranting but this is just way overboard in my opinion. The company

      Building a LiPo Charging Station
I you haven’t seen/heard about it yet. LiPo batteries can be dangerous, check it out. It is very rare that a lipo would ignite under normal use. It would take charging it at a higher rate than recommended (typically 1C) or a internal short. People have had serious property damage, here is a list of what causes the fire and what is damaged. They make commercial battery bunkers, some people use cinder blocks and bags of sand. I have also seen ammo cans used, but I could not find them locally and I didn’t want to pay for shipping. I found a honeywell steel lockbox at WalMart for $10, that is pretty stout. I don’t have the desire to test it (yet), but I think is should hold just fine. Also to help suppress any fire that could arise, I put a Pyrex pan over the battery. I did buy one of those LiPo charging bags, but it is a pain to open and close every time I want to charge a battery. I have it lining the bottom of the box. it is definitely not necessary, but si

Colleges charging more for some majors
Should an undergraduate studying business pay more than one studying psychology? Should a journalism degree cost more than one in literature? More and more public universities, confronting rising costs and lagging state support, have decided the answers may be yes and yes.Starting this fall, juniors and seniors pursuing a major in the business school at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, will pay $500 more each semester than classmates with other majors. The University of Nebraska last year began charging engineering students $40 for each hour of class credit. And Arizona State University this fall will institute a $250-per-semester charge above the basic $2,411 tuition for in-state upperclassmen in the journalism school.Such moves are being driven by the salaries commanded by professors, the expense of specialized equipment and the difficulties of persuading state legislatures to approve general tuition increases, university officials say.The University of Washington does not charge

      It’s charging
Well, as per my husband’s advice (he is the computer expert in our house), I disassembled the entire laptop. It was actually quite fun. I got the plans from the HP site and followed them precisely. I vacuumed it out, and there was some awful messes of dog hair in there. Ugh, the drawbacks of dogs and technology together. So I vacuumed it out, then reassembled it. The good news is.. it is charging the battery. It did start up! But the battery is way low, only 1%. Not sure why, maybe the power connection was bad and my battery drained. It still won’t quite stay on, but maybe after the battery charges for a few hours… I can only hope, eh? We figured we probably can’t hurt the thing more by taking it apart. Yesterday it wouldn’t even turn on, with or without a battery. So this is progress, I think, and I didn’t spend any money on someone to tell me what was wrong. My husband thinks it will probably be okay now. I sure hope so! Cross your fingers! O

Today, I stumbled upon this site called Rentometer. Just enter your zip code, rent, the number of bedrooms, and the number of units in the building. The site then compares your price to other similar rental properties in your area and gives you a cool looking dashboard like this. You can see on the left how you are doing compare to other people in your area.  On the right, you can click on specific property to see what they are paying. Pretty cool just to check out.

How to clean Corrosion or your charging port on your mobile phone?
How do you clean corrosion or dirt/gunk off of your charging port on your mobile phone?  The best way to do this is with a tooth brush and alcohol.  Take some, not a lot, of alcohol on the end of a toothbrush and rub it against the port.  This will generaly remove most surface damage or corrosion.  Of course if their is a burnt spot or more serious damage on your phone, this will not be able to remove that.  Also if you able to take your phone apart.  This is good for cleaning the inside of your phone if you have had liquid damage to the internal components. Comcast, Cox, Verizon, Roadrunner Take Steps to Begin Charging for E-mail
Some of the largest ISPs in the United States have begun to support Goodmail, an email and authentication service that charges money in exchange for guaranteed delivery of email. Goodmail then splits the money with your ISP. These four ISPs join AOL and Yahoo! who are already members of the CertifiedEmail program.   Although sending certified mail through Goodmail is currently optional with ISPs, this service rides a slippery slope that could one day lead to ISPs charging for all email sent. Since Goodmail shares its revenue, it reduces the incentive for ISPs to waste man hours improving spam filters when they could just be charging you to send your certified email. Certified mail increases the incentives for ISPs to over-block incoming email, and this reduces the chances that you receive legitimate email and forcing you to turn to certified mail. Worst hit would be groups with large mailing lists who face the choice of paying up or not having their emails successfully delivered.
