The toothier paper worked much better, this is a little too smooth. I also like working larger better. And the landscape below was a mixed media demo of acrylics loosely applied to grey card (which shows through in places) with a palette knife and then worked on with pastels and a little coloured pencil. Last week I was finally in the opportunity to visit one of the many charcoal factories in Matang, Kuala Sepetang. These villages are living of the mangrove forest. Many people are either fishermen or live and work in the charcoal factory. I have one thing first to admit, I didn’t expect the charcoal factory all too exciting when I entered. How wrong I was! Mr. Chuah, the owner of this factory gave us an extraordinary explanation of the history and processing of charcoal. Even if you have zero interest, Mr. Chuah makes you interested, he’s a gifted storyteller. The charcoal factory of his family goes back all the way to the 1930’s. I've got some very cheap charcoal pencils that I bought - a dozen for £1 ! - they are a bit waxier than a true charcoal pencil but I rather like them. They don't smudge quite the same as a true charcoal pencil. Some charcoal pencils can be a little scratchy and I don't enjoy using them. If you like the lamb taste as opposed to a charcoal taste as with beef or pork, do NOT charbroil; you will lose much of the wonderful taste of the lamb!!
