Results and a new "Fastest Man in the World?"This past weekend saw the start of the USA Track and Field Olympic Trials, as well as the USA Swimming Olympic Trials. In short, however, the action in both sports has been pretty hot with records falling in the pool and heroic stories on the tra

On Thursday, they were treated like royalty in Boston, complete with the now obligatory Duck Boat tour and parade through the meandering downtown streets to celebrate their 17th NBA championship.

As a music reviewer who is not good, I don't like to focus too much on the specifics of an album or really delve into deep meanings or stuff like that. Basically, I try and give the reader a fair overview of what an album sounds like and leave it at that. I wish that I had the patience and presence of mind to dissect and pick apart music, but I don't.

Champs-Elysées is that very big avenue from Concorde to Triomphe where after the first hundreds of meters of gardens (starting from Place de la Concorde) turn into a veritable world of shops, restaurants,, movie theatres etc.It can be easy to get lost with the crowd (especially on week-ends), so mind that your children do not get far from your sight (if you have any), it's the right place to get an idea ofthe international parisian side, to walk without forgetting that the real Paris is elsewhere and maybe a nice little restaurant somwhere will not cost you a fortune like the ones of this wonderful boulevard...

I've been trying to put into words how it felt, being in Lawrence for the first time in six years, when the Jayhawks took the title. I've written and re-written this thing three times, and it just doesn't do it justice. But, this video is pretty close, taken at Allen Field House. I still get a little teared up when watching it. Bekele vs. Tadese: A world championship rematch from Edinburgh - bet on Bekele...The famous Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh is the backdrop for a great rematch over the country tomorrow - Bekele vs. Tadese. The 2008 World Indoor Champs in Valencia, Spain, delivered a numerous amount of fantastic performances and displays of why this sport is great. It also delivered its fair share of surprises and upsets from Tamsyn Lewis over 800m to Sudan's stunning win over the Men's 800m by Abubaker Kaki Khamis. Also worth mentioning was the gutsy and determined performance of Belgium's Tia Hellebaut in the Women's Pentathlon .In some instances it was business as usual for the likes of Russia's Yelena Isinbaeva in the polevault and the affirmation that New Zealand's Valerie Vili is the real deal in the Women's shotput. The new World Record established by Yelena Soboleva for Women over 1500m confirmed Yelena is a good name to have. There was also the winning of Ethiopia's Tariku Bakele in the Men's 3000m

It was one Sunday when we decided, hey why don't we go to Champs at Centerpoint. Want to try their ribs. Actually, what really caught our attention was that when we were at Bernard's which happens to one level below Champs, you can see a big banner that says, The much talked about Ribs in town....I really haven't been to Champs for food, so this is really the first time. Some time back, we used to come here for a beer or two, but thats all. Nevertheless, when you walk into this outlet, you should be able to find many framed newspaper writeups about their food, and about the restaurant. Whats interesting is that, this restaurant is actually named after his St Bernard, call Champ...Our only focus today was to try their ribs. Two persons, two mugs of beer and one rib. "I also agreed that we would be ahead at the end of the game and that if he called a defense that didn't allow that to happen, then he would be…

Liverpool pulled out an impressive victory at Marseille's Stade Velodrome tonight, beating down their hosts by a four goal margin to advance to the Champions League Round of 16. Steven Gerrard put in his own penalty kick rebound four minutes into the game and Marseille never recovered. Four different Reds scored in all as Rafa Benitez' side proved they belong among the final 16. The victory completes an impressive turnaround for Liverpool, who appeared in dire straights after losing their third match day game at Besiktas Istanbul. Stevie G and friends cranked out three straight victories after that, by a total goal difference of 16:1.No major surprises to report in the three other games of meaning that were played today; Porto, Schalke, Real Madrid and Olympiakos all won at home to advance. I am spared the embarrassment of having one of my Top 10 teams bow out (that would be #2 Real, #7 Porto or #10 Olympiakos, in case you're scoring at home). On the other hand, it may be time to ma
Solid performances by Inter Milan, AS Roma, Barcelona and Sevilla saw the four teams through to the round of 16 on the penultimate match day of UEFA Champions League group play. Meanwhile, Rangers blew a chance to clinch passage to the next round by losing at Stuttgart, who had absolutely nothing but their pride to play for. Walter Smith's side now host Lyon in a winner-take-all game at Ibrox Dec. 12. The good news for Rangers fans is they will advance if the game ends in a tie, by virtue holding the tie-breaker after beating Lyon in their first meeting.Today's Barca-Lyon game was a good one, as expected. I was able to watch follow all most parts of it on the Internet and thought Lyon had a lot of fight and put on a solid showing. Juninho and goalkeeper Rémy Vercoutre impressed me in the little that I saw of the game (I didn't catch any of the goals). Lyon came back from goals down twice and it felt like the tie was a fair result.I don't know what happened to Rangers other than wh

Despite only managing a scoreless draw at Slavia Prague, Arsenal were able to join Manchester United as the first teams to advance into the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Man U. made quick work of Dynamo Kiev, winning 4-0 at Old Trafford. The Red Devils victory opened the door for AS Roma to advance as well, but the Italian side only managed a 2-2 draw at Sporting Lisbon (and were fortunate to make off with the point, as the equalizer came on an 89th minute own goal by Anderson Polga). Roma can settle matters if they manage just one point in their last two games (at hapless Kiev on Nov. 27 and home to Man U on Dec. 12) or if Man U beats Sporting at Old Trafford in the next round. This means the dreaded Man U visit to Roma next month will in all likelihood be a meaningless affair.Elsewhere, Inter Milan are all but through, with a five point advance on third place. Ditto Sevilla, who turned in an impressive victory at Steaua Bucharest thanks to a brace by Renato. Barca are also in th

Donnie "Ahas" Nietes' hard fought win last weekend over Pornsawan Kratingdaenggym of Thailand for the the vacant WBO world Minimumweight Title, the Philippines currently has 4 world boxing champions. Pinoy boxing stars Florante Condes, Nonito Donaire,Gerry Penalosa, and Donnie Nietes now hold world championship belts. Well, technically they are not world champions because boxing has been split up into various governing bodies (WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, WBU, etc...)that recognize it's own champions for every division. The proper term might be world titlist because they hold a part of the World championship. Unless these Filipino boxing champs cannot unify the world titles in their divisions, then I think they cannot be declared as true world champions. Let us relive how this Pinoy boxing heroes bought glory to their country through this videos: Let us begin with Nonito Donaire's impressive KO win over Vic Darchinyan:Then we have Gerry Penalosa's liver shot KO win over Jhonny Gonzalez
Eating peanut butter & jelly sandwiches might help save Mother Earth. Why? Read more below.
Simple, it takes alot less water (280 gallons of water less) and land (12 to 50 square feet of land less) to grow peanuts than it does livestock, according to the PB&J Campaign. It’s simple eco math.
Also it is healthy food for you, even though peanut butter has a high amount of fat, it is the good kind. Yes, some types of fat are good for you, the bad ones are trans fats. Which peanut butter is free of. Sports nutritionists advise smartly to stick to the 2 tablespoon rule.
So make yourself a PB&J sandwich for lunch tommorrow and then again on Wednesday, and help save the planet, one sandwich at a time.

Watching Indian cricket from since my childhood to till date, I have seen Indian cricket being diged and crop to heaven many times. As twenty twenty is totally new thing for me too, I was not so sure about the performance of Indian Cricket team. Indian skipper MS Dhoni too said "We are just enjoying the format and not worrying about the result. Not many peoples are hoping too much from us for this particular tournament", Still Indian Cricket team is in semis and preparing to take of mighty Australian. Indian team in recent past have not done anything great when we speak about their performance in main matches of tournaments. I remember only NatWest series win (please do let me know if I skipping something here.), where they won in final chasing a world record target. On all other stages they have failed to win fans and most of the cricket experts pronounce them as "Chokers", today is the chance for this young team to sweep that label. As far as Australian cricket team is concern, they h
What an exciting day. Had to wake up at 6 AM (usually up by 7 but had to get the wife up as well) and drive from PG county over to Western Montgomery county (ok, ok - only Gaithersburg area) to get a tooth extraction. We had been talking all week about being laid up in bed and not doing anything fun for that entire day. We made it over to Dr. Sandler's office right on time at 8 AM. (Left the house about 7) Dr. Sandler's staff was very nice and made us feel very comfortable. Dr. Sandler was right on time. I was having my #16 (back left wisdom tooth) extracted so a filling could be done with as little fuss as possible on #15. We were wondering why take out an entire tooth just for a little filling. Dr. Sandler calmed our fears and said that the #16 tooth is rather useless to begin with and would cause no problems.Have you ever had a tooth extracted? I thought, "PAIN, AGONY, Wahhhhhhh!" Again, Dr. Sandler calmed
OK, so having said that I would be off-line until Friday, I managed (fortuitously) to catch one lone race out of today's action from Osaka. While standing at a bus station waiting for an eternally non-arriving bus, Ladbrokes, which happened to be directly behind the stop, was broadcasting the racing. And in my 10 minutes of downtime, it just happened to be the men's 1500m final, so I managed to watch it and thought I'd put a few thoughts down on the race.First, the result. The Champion - Bernard Lagat, formerly of Kenya, but running for the USA in his first international competition. Second went to Rashid Ramzi, the defending champ and the bronze was won by Shedrack Korir of Kenya. The official result:1. Bernard Lagat (USA) 3:34.772. Rashid Ramzi (BAH) 3:35.003. Shedrack Korir (KEN) 3:35.04So Bernard Lagat, Olympic Silver medallist and second fastest 1500m runner in history (a time that is 6 years old now) wins his first World title in his first international race for the US
In another post, we looked extensively at the Men's 10000m final, because it was such a good race, from a spectator point of view, but also because it was so intruiging for physiological reasons.here, we look at the rest of Day 3's action:Women's 3000m Steeplechase - the expected Russian DominanceAs predicted, the Russians dominated the 3000m Steeplechase, winning gold and silver. It was Yeketerina Volkova who won, in an impressive time of 9:06, given the conditions in Osaka. Her compatriot, Tatyana Petrova was 3 seconds back. The biggest surprise was that the world record holder, Gulnara Samitova-Galkina, failed to win a medal, finishing some 24 seconds behind. She took the race out hard, running the first 1km in world record tempo, but then fell away badly, perhaps a victim of heat and over-enthusiasm.The third medal was taken by a Kenyan, Eunice Jepkorir. The race was quite uneventful, more of a mass 'time-trial' than anything else. It is clearly a new event, because the relati
We admit bias on this one, because our focus on The Science of Sport does tend to drift towards the endurance activities, but this one couldn't have escaped our attention - today, the 3rd day of the IAAF World Champs, brought a great 10 000m race, a race that was so good, and interesting, that we decided to do a post on it, and a separate post looking at the rest of the day's action. But this is dedicated to the 10 000m final, and a great race - from a physiological and a tactical point of view, it was one of the great races that I've ever seen. The result - Bekele defends and becomes a 3-time 10km championMuch as expected, and if you logged onto the internet, you'd see the following result:1. Kenenisa Bekele 27:05.902. Sileshi Sihine 27:09.033. Martin Mathathi 27:12.17So, you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd missed pretty much a repeat of Bekele's last few world and Olympic titles, because the time gaps at the finish would be consistent with a blazing final lap, during whi
The IAAF World Championships in Osaka began with a bang, and the temperatures matched some of the action. At this stage, the action is dominated by qualifying heats (a pun, in this particular case) but even that has been quite explosive, with a number of surprises on the first day. Two major running finals to report on, the Men's Marathon and the Women's 10 000m final, which was a stunner. And of course, we move ever closer to the potential world record in the 100m and the show-down between Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell (see our Picture above). But let's begin with the Men's Marathon...Men's Marathon - New World Champion Luke KibetThe story of the men's marathon was always going to be the heat. I have to somewhat sheepishly admit that I yesterday wrote about the women's marathon, a faux pas I will blame on the fact that I am on a travelling holiday around Europe, combined with the Swiss Mountain air at the time of writing...! So apologies for that, it was in fact the men's maratho
