En la primera semifinal de La Champions League, Liverpool que tenía el triunfo en el bolsillo por la minima diferencia de local frente al Chelsea, en el último minuto sufrió un tropezón debido a un autogol de John Arne Riise dandole la chance al Chelsea.En el final del primer tiempo, Liverpool tomó la ventaja con un gol de Dirk Kuyt, pero en el cuarto minuto del descuento del segundo tiempo un lamentable autogol de Riise le da la tranquilidad al Chelsea de afrontar el partido de vuelta en Londres.
