Jesus can save to the uttermost - Oswald Chambers
The great challenge in personal work is - What relationship have I to Jesus Christ? It is not simply that we realize the power of Jesus to save, but that we recognize the possibilities for evil in our own heart, discerned in us by the Holy Spirit, and know that Jesus can save unto the uttermost. Let a man be a murderer, or an evildoer, or any of the things Jesus said men could b

The Cross vs. our own way - Oswald Chambers
The evidence that I have accepted the Cross of Christ as the revelation of Redemption is that the regenerating life of God is manifested in my mortal flesh. Immediately I accept the Cross of Christ as the revelation of Redemption I am not, I must not be, the same man, I must be another man, and I must take up my cross from my Lord. The cross is the gift of Jesus to His disciples and it can only bear one aspect: 'I am not my own.' The whole attitude of the life is that I have given up my right to myself. I live like a crucified man. Unless that crisis is reached it is perilously possible for my religious life to end as a sentimental fiasco. "I don't mind being saved from hell and receiving the Holy Spirit, but it is too much to expect me to give up my right to myself to

Unabashed Shameless Self-Promotion for Chambers Street Wines
As many of you know I have been a fervent supporter of Lars Carlberg and his portfolio under the moniker Mosel Wine Merchant. From Clemens Busch's brilliantly naturally-made, wild yeast fermented Rieslings to Beate Knebel's beautiful and fleshy yet nervously mineral Rieslings from Winningen to Stefan Steinmetz's stunningly pure Rieslings from Brauneberg and other small plots within the Middle Mosel to Stein's aristocratic and filligreed Riesling's there is not a dud that in that portfolio. Yes that is a long sentence but I am excited about these wines and even more excited that all of these producers will be at Chambers Street Wines pouring this Thursday April 17th from 4-7 pm at 160 Chambers Street. Also in attendance will be Gernot Kollman who consults and makes the wines at Knebel. He i

Our will or God's will? -Oswald Chambers
From The Highest Good by Oswald Chambers:    The spirit of 'I do not wish to be annoyed' is frequently the inspiration of the administration of justice in private cases. I works into our intercession also: I want that bad person saved - because he is of so much value in the sight of God? No, because he is an annoyance to me, I cannot live my life properly with him. That spirit cannot live anywhere near Jesus Christ, because Jesus had only one point of view - His Father's will.

Human Weapon MMA Episode: Jason Chambers vs Conor Huen
A fight scene from one of the more entertaining episodes from "Human Weapon"- Jason Chambers vs. Conor Huen of the IFL. Why was this great? You get to see Jason execute a perfect Twister. I bet Eddie Bravo had his "O face" on watching this particular episode., this series started from "watchable" and devolved into just plain terrible. But that doesn't mean a few episodes weren't entertaining. The biggest difference between Human Weapon and Fight Quest is that the guys on Fight Quest will at least subtly let you know that they think a particular aspect of a martial art is silly, but on Human Weapon, they try to take everything face-value and seriously. Also, when they did the ninjitsu and kung fu episodes, those were really just plain embarrassing to watch. They really made kung fu look ter

      Indignation - Oswald Chambers
From The Highest Good by Oswald Chambers:    Ask yourself, then, what is it that awakens indignation in your heart? Is it the same kind of thing that awakened indignation in Jesus Christ? The thing that awakens indignation in us is the thing that upsets our present state of comfort and society. The thing that made Jesus Christ blaze was pride that defied God and prevented Him from having His right with human hearts. Sin is the independence of human nature which God created turning against God. Holiness is this same independence turning against sin. Sin is not doing wrong things, it is wrong being. Sins are wrong acts: sin is an independence that will not bow its neck to God, that defies God and all He presents, that will not go to the excellency of a broken heart. It is

Justin Chambers May Play A Doctor But This Time He Can't Heal Himself
Justin Chambers, best known for his role as Alex on Grey's Anatomy, is in need of some the same medicine he's been dispensing every Thursday night. Chambers has been flirting with rehab for months now, even checking himself into a psych ward due to "exhaustion". However, sources close to the actor said that Chambers may have a drinking problem (but their unsure about other substance abuse). His exhaustion excuse is also under cut by his recent behavior. Very recently, while out to dinner, Chambers showed some outlandish behavior that is hopefully not just a diva attitude. According to Star Magazine:""Everyone thought Justin was drunk because he kept passing out at his table," the eyewitness tells Star. "But when I asked the bartender what they'd been serving him, she swore it was only non-

The Natural Life - Oswald Chambers
From The Highest Good by Oswald Chambers:    What we have to get hold of in our moral lives is that Jesus Christ demands that we live His holy life out naturally. Despair is always the gateway of faith. "If Thou canst!" "All things are possible to him that believeth." So many of us get depressed about ourselves, but when we get to the point where we are not only sick of ourselves, but sick to death, then we shall understand what the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ means. It will mean that we come to Him without the slightest pretence, without any hypocrisy, and say, 'Lord, if You can make anything of me, do it,' and He will do it. The Lord can never make a saint out of a good man, He can only make a saint out of three classes of people - the godless man, the weak man

Jesus will not water down His teaching - Oswald Chambers
From The Highest Good by Oswald Chambers:    If we would have the blunt courage of ordinary human beings and face the teachings of Jesus, we would have to come to one of two conclusions - either the conclusion His contemporaries came to, that He was devil-possessed, or else to the conclusion the disciples came to, that He is God Incarnate. Jesus Christ will not water down His teaching to suit our weakness in any shape or form; He will not allow us to cringe in the tiniest degree. Whenever there is a trace of cringing or whining or wanting something different from what He wants, it is the stern front of the Son of God uncloaking sin every time we look at Him; but if we come as paupers, what happens? Exactly the opposite. He will lift us up and wash us whiter than snow, a

The Real Life - Oswald Chambers
A quote from The Highest Good by Oswald Chambers:    There never was anyone who did not have one moment when all the machinery tumbled away and he saw the meaning of his life. God pays not the remotest attention to our civilized cultures and our attitude to things, because that is not what we are here for. We are here for one thing - to glorify God. That is where we join issue with the Lord Jesus Christ today, and we look at every other thing as life - "What shall we eat? What shall we drink? Wherewithal shall we be clothed?" Our Lord came for one purpose only, to reveal God, and to get men to be spiritually real.

I wrote about the guy Mike Demello whose truck was tipped over right after the World Series. The poor guy is a traveling nurse who makes very little money. Well the other day Mike was on the Matty in the Morning show and Herb Chambers came in and gave Mike a new truck in exchange for the insurance check he received for his totaled truck. It was a used truck but one similar to the one that Mike lost. They tried to find the exact one but gave him a 2005 truck with 16,000 miles on it for the $5,000.00 insurance check that Mike received. That is something that I expected someone would step up and do. I’m glad to see Herb Chambers was the one to do it. Makes me think that I should check out Herb Chambers Honda when I’m looking to upgrade my next ride. Great Job Herb chambers and Matty in the Morning.

San Diego’s offense gets hotter: Chambers adds deep threat ability, more firepower to already potent attack
Breaking News: San Diego has traded for wide receiver Chris Chambers from the Miami Dolphins for a second-round draft selection, FOXSports.com has learned. Chambers clarified the deal in an email to FOXSports, but declined further comment until speaking with Dolphins coach Cam Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller. Chambers has 31 catches for 415 yards this season. Impact/Analysis: The deal is a reasonable one and Miami did a good job getting back a 2nd round draft pick. On the other side, San Diego found themselves a feature #1 WR with lots of talent. Miami will now look to Ted Ginn Jr. for plays to be made in the passing game, as they went to him a lot last week against Cleveland. The Chargers hope Chambers will improve his hands and get into the end zone, while providing them a deep threat next to Antonio Gates, something they so desperately need. In the fantasy realm, this is big news that will be taken with joy for owners that have Chambers, also look for Ginn and Ronnie Brow

Thanks to Shorty for the heads up on this one. Espn is reporting that Miami has traded Chris Chambers to the San Diego Chargers but terms of the deal aren't known yet.So if you're keeping track, Miami has now unloaded its top 3 (Chambers, Wes Welker, Randy McMichael) receivers going back to last season. People will criticize that and even though it looks dumb on the surface, I'm going to give Cam Cameron and his regime time to put their plan in place. You don't turn a team around overnight, so give these guys time before we start calling them out on some of these decisions.I liked the fact that they were cleaning house and starting over and I'm going to stick with that mentality. And this is what I hinted at after Chambers was got his DWI back in July. Being a veteran doesn't make your job safe with Cameron, as he has been overhauling this roster since he's been hired.Either way, I think it's a trade that will help both teams. The Chargers get a valid # 1 receiver to go along w

      Dolphins’ Chambers Trade Bait?
The Miami Dolphins apparently looking towards the future, particularly with their receiving corps.  Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald is reporting that Dolphins wide receiver Chris Chambers is on the trading block and that teams around the league are aware of his availability.  I would imagine there are several reasons for Chambers becoming trade bait just before the regular season. One theory is the Dolphins’ growing confidence in Ted Ginn, Jr.; apparently the team is very satisfied in Ginn’s development as a WR which would make Chambers expendable.  Chambers wasn’t used prominently during the preseason yet the Dolphins’ coaches had no complaints about Chambers.  A problem that Chambers is facing at the moment is the fact that he recently pled not guilty to “driving while impaired” charges; the case is still pending.  Assuming that Chambers faces legal sanctions, the possibility of some form of discipline by the NFL is very real.

The Chambers Brothers - Time Has Come Today (1967)
Like their West Coast contemporaries Sly and the Family Stone, the Chambers Brothers shattered racial and musical divides to forge an incendiary fusion of funk, gospel, blues, and psychedelia which reached its apex with the perennial 1968 song "Time Has Come Today." The Chambers siblings -- bassist George, guitarist Willie, harpist Lester, and guitarist Joe, all of whom contributed vocals -- were born and raised in Lee County, MS; the products of an impoverished sharecropping family, the brothers first polished their vocal harmonies in the choir of their Baptist church, a collaboration which ended after George was drafted into the army in 1952. Following his discharge he relocated to Los Angeles, where the other Chambers brothers soon settled as well; the foursome began performing gospel and folk throughout Southern California in 1954, but remained virtually unknown until appearing in New York City in 1965. The addition of white drummer Brian Keenan not only made the Chambers Brothers

Cooking Equipment As Tools of the Trade - By Craig Chambers
By Craig Chambers I have always loved cooking and cooking equipment and owe it all to my grandma who let me “play chef” in her kitchen when I was a kid. My sister and I would take out her pots and pans, bowls, spoons and plates and make great concoctions of water and flour and whatever else she would give us to experiment with. Since growing up, my love for the kitchen has only grown stronger and I still find a certain delight in getting out all of my cooking equipment and making a great meal. Over the years I have often been asked by my daughters and grand daughters to accompany them when registering for their kitchen items before getting married and starting their own homes. The main tip I give them is that since the cooking items you have in your kitchen are some of the most used items you have in your home, it is a good idea to buy quality items right from the start. The cooking equipment you buy will greatly depend on the type of meals you cook. Even though every pe

      Chambers Passed Breathalyzer Following Arrest
Sources are reporting that Dolphins wide out Chris Chambers passed a breathalyzer test after being arrested early Saturday morning in Charlotte for driving while impaired, reckless driving and speeding.  The receiver was taken in at about 2:30am and later released on $1,750 bond. He will be in court today.  As stated in a previous article, the arrest is the first time in Chambers’ tenure he has come under any legal trouble in his time in the league. If it is true that Chambers passed the breathalyzer test, then it is unlikley that the league would hand down any sort of punishment against Chambers.  If anything, the Dolphins may fine him for the arrest, but even that is uncertain at this point.  The team has already had to deal with the arrest of new LB Joey Porter this offseason, as well as the two arrests and then release of defensive tackle Fred Evans.  On the surface it appears that Chambers simply made a bad judgement call on driving Saturday night, and that if he can

By Craig Chambers Chinese cooking night is a wonderful tradition that my family has created over the years and one that we have all come to love! On this special night once a month, my aunts, grandmas, parents and even my two brothers and their families clear their hectic schedules and gather around the family kitchen to whip up a savory and delicious meal straight from the Orient. Why Chinese food, you ask? Of all the different cuisines we have tried throughout the years, Chinese recipes are easy to follow, the food is delicious and Chinese cooking sauces have become our favorite. Their adaptability and variety of flavorful spices is loved by the whole family. One thing we learned very early on is that Chinese food and Chinese cooking are greatly complimented by the key ingredients of the sauces. You can see this very easily in the American Chinese food cooking trends. It is mainly a mixture of vegetables enhanced with Chinese sauces. These cooking sauces are used as garnishes and

Although not perfect the image for todays update is much closer to the real life colour of the Chambers Gorge Rock Pool, where as yesterdays was saturated with a lot of red.Todays progress consists of more glazing over the still water along with grasses amongst the rocks. Also another layer added to the foliage of the trees in the background along with some timber. More flicks of colour were added to the mat of grass in the middle ground.Strangely enough the more I do to this painting; another area then needs to be worked on. It is like playing 'catch up' at all times and yep that means I will be catching you with another post once more on this subject. Finely a long overdue update for you to scrutinise. Having never used this grisaille technique before I have to admit to being out of the comfort zone, especially when working on a painting of this size. The addition of flora as well as glazes over the water area is now starting to really breath life into the painting that I can now see the long awaited finish line approaching. The image colours are not quite correct with the reds coming through a little strong on the right as well the shadow colour in the rocks are brighter than they should be. In real life it does look much better but with a dark dreary day here for photos and wanting to post to my blog; this photo is it for today. What next? More glazes along with flicks and dabs to refine areas that need attention, so until then I have plans for another update tomorrow..... grrrr and watch out who ever gets in my way of this happening! Occasional Links: Better Know a Genius - Bill Gates, Susan Decker, and John Chambers.
‘Companies’ do not exist. There are legal documents, there are buildings, and most importantly, there are people. Those who are trying to predict the fortunes of corporations should not be working with the impressions a slogan and logo give them, but instead be paying attention to who is making the decisions behind the logo, and the people that influence them. While I’m finishing up one of the best articles I’ve written so far(make sure you’re subscribed to receive it!), I hope you’ll take the time to learn more about three people who have already accomplished great things: Bill Gates, Susan Decker, and John Chambers. “ “Pound for pound, he’s the most controversial figure in IT.” – Newsweek provides us with a range of perspectives on Bill Gates from people who have known him personally. For people who want to learn more about Microsoft’s upcoming strategies, studying Gates is probably not the most effective use of time,

I am soooo enjoying this stage of the oil painting. All the hard work has been done working out the tonal map with the grisaille technique that I can now just add my layers of colour.Because it is a landscape I have some flat darker colour in some areas where vegetation will be placed over the top giving the grasses and shrubbery depth. You didn't think I was going to paint every blade of grass did ya? This image isn't the best as the yellow for some reason wants to be dominant and yet the painting has very little left from the under painting. The rocks in fact do have a very pale wash of Burnt Sienna over them. Maybe the camera is picking up the yellow from that. I don't really have the time to spare to play around with the image too much so this one is it folks!I am hoping for a translucent sky, which already has two glazes of colour with more to come. I am unable to add the shrubbery that will come up above the skyline until this area is completed with glazes.Did I say I am enjoy

Did some more work on this grisaille today and made sure a photo was taken this time. The yellow is showing up stronger than it really is. Not sure if it is my camera or the light conditions the photo was taken under.Yesterday was spent cleaning up in my garden, which I haven't done for twelve months or more and that is my excuse that I never posted to this blog yesterday. At the moment the weather is so beautiful here that my garden is just begging me to give it some tender loving care. Hopefully with some more rain in the near future, my garden will bounce back to its former glory. I may then come up with a garden painting if the area is pretty enough. Nope the grisaille isn't finished much to my own disgust. Never mind it will be waiting for me when I get back from a two week break in New South Wales. Hubby and I are leaving tomorrow morning with our caravan in tow. Some of the areas called Outback and Heart of Country in New South Wales are the places Malcolm and myself will be visiting. I wish we could visit all the clickable areas on the map but it just will not happen because two weeks isn't enough time to do so, which is approximately the time we are taking away from home for this caravanning holiday.Thankfully we have a son and his partner that will look after the farm while we are away. It is very handy having them living a stones throw away.Well dear friends, this is the last post until my return. Take care and I will catch you all on Arts and Stuff when I arrive home. Oh yes and it isn't impossible that I may post a snapshot over on my other blog while we are away. Quick links:Free Subscription to Arts & Stuff by Emai

Steal a 648k snapshotIt is getting late and while Malcolm waits patiently in the Patrol I happily snap away to get some more photos as I know it will be quite some time before we visit this area again. It wasn't until after I posted the first photo of this area to SnapShots that I regretted not starting from the very beginning of the trip by way of telling a story for the whole day. It is something for me to remember to do in future. This last photo of the sun setting over Wilpena Pound was taken to close our daylight hours to a very big day on the road. This was the only stop that we made as the later the day became the more kangaroos we had to avoid hitting as they came out to feed. It was quite a relief to get back to Wilpena Pound caravan and camp grounds where we were staying at the time I was artist in residence.Steal a 323k snapshotFor those that are not familiar with Blog Feeds I have made it easy for you to subscribe to updates by using an email subscription. The grisaille is coming along really well but slowly as there are so many variants of tones to consider. One thing that surprises me, at this stage there is little paint used.Because I am not working the whole painting at once I am able to sit, which is good for my leg that is still giving me trouble although on the mend as long as I rest it. Maybe trying my hand out with a grisaille technique is timely to keep me off my feet. Not really sure when my next post will be. Once more there is a trip to Port Pirie tomorrow. This time it is in preparation with a two week trip interstate so need to get our vehicle serviced plus tucker shopping and other odds and ends done. Sadly we have a funeral to attend this week as well.Anyway Malcolm (husband) and I are not heading off with our van in tow for another week yet. With a bit of luck I hope to get the grisaille stage of this painting finished before we leave so that it dries properly before I start adding colour.Well I better go and clean my br

      Chambers Gorge, waterhole
Click and steal a 642k SnapshotThis is another snapshot from deep in Chambers Gorge. I have to admit to being a little disappointed when Malcolm and I found the water hole, as it was just basically lower area of the creek bed without any vegetation growing around it; well other than the tree growing out of the side of the rock as you see in this image. The eucalyptus tree is certainly a very tough one!The waterhole wasn't all that big although there seemed plenty of depth to it, which I couldn't see because the breeze was coming down the gorge constantly in this area and rippling the water. I would have loved to have been able to take a photo of reflections in the water but knowing that we had to head back from where we had come, which was quite a distance and the time waiting for the water to level out wasn't available. There is photos to come from this area so watch out for them.If you haven't done so, check out the oil painting that I am working on at my Arts & Stuff blog. My studio has an atmosphere of the outdoors today. No air-conditioner needed to cool things down so my door and large window is open to the East. The Magpie also is warbling a beautiful song just outside of my window as I paint.Because this work is so big (840 x 960 mm canvas) I am more comfortable getting the rock areas worked up ahead of the rest of the Grisaille. That is one of the reasons that I didn’t post yesterday, it was along day and yet I felt there wasn’t a lot to show and tell from the previous post. For those that are wondering what my paint mix is, it is equal parts of Raw Umber and Ivory Black which makes a lovely dark.Uh oh, there is a family domestic going on now amongst the magpies, now that is not relaxing!I am now getting right into the swing of the Grisaille knowing that the tonal map will be completed before I start adding colour and basically all the hard work will be done. I am fully aware that Grisaille are best suited for a Still Life and because of this, w

      Chambers Gorge, onwards we go!
Ok.... on with the chambers gorge series of photos. By the time Malcolm (husband) and I had reached this area the flies were driving us nuts and that is an understatement! To get to this area we pushed through some thick native vegetation and even met a couple of university students who were cataloging the species of plants found in this area.We didn't walk through the gap as time was against us. The students had informed us that there was indeed a spring in this area which we found. That photo will be posted next. The rock pool painting from the Chambers Gorge area that I am presently working on isn't going to be posted today even though I have worked most of today on it. Jeepers I must be mad!!! I have never done a Grisaille with oil before and I go and do a large one. As you can see I haven’t finished the first layer and yet more to be done. The correct values will be that much closer to what I want in the next pass and fined tuned in the third. The board was already primed with the yellow background so went with it for the Grisaille as that was all I had. The yellow has been very successful with my drier technique with oils so we will see how it goes with glazes.Well I better post this and then go and clean my brushes and pack my paints away…… catch ya tomorrow!Quick links:Free Subscription to Arts & Stuff by Email technorati tags: Grisaille, chambers gorge, oil landscape, art, artist, landscape Arts & Stuff with Susan Borgas SnapShots
