The Worst Cereals in the World
Some breakfast cereals currently being marketed to U.S. children are more than half sugar by weight, according to Consumer Reports. A single serving of 11 popular cereals, including Kellogg's Honey Smacks, can carry as much sugar as a glazed doughnut. And some brands have even more sugar and sodium when formulated for the U.S. market than the same brands have when sold in other countries. Post Gol

Sugar and Sodium - Which Cereals To Keep Your Eyes On
A new Consumer Report issued yesterday, revealed ratings for popular cereals that are high in sugar content. Golden Crisp and Honey Smacks were rated among the worst as being more than 50 percent sugar per serving -- that's about as much sugar as a glazed doughnut! Nine others that were studied are made up of at least 40 percent sugar. In addition to sugar, another "S" word to be on the look out

Half of all Americans start their day with a bowl of cereal for breakfast, according to the National Cereal Council. Cereals And Their Preparation
Cereal is the name given to those seeds used as food (wheat, rye, oats, barley, corn, rice, etc.), which are produced by plants belonging to the vast order known as the grass family. They are used for food both in the unground state and in various forms of mill products. The grains are pre-eminently nutritious, and when well prepared, easily digested foods. In composition they are all similar, but

What To Buy For Bread and Cereals
Bread, cereals and other grain products can often be the most confusing to buy, and healthy sounding phrases on their packages (Health Nut, 12-Grain, and more) don't make it any easier. For the best bet, ignore the claims on the front of the box and go straight to the nutrition label.Whole wheat bread. Cereals Prevent Breast Cancer
Most women trying to be thin and lose weight don’t eat bread. But in reality coarse meal bread and whole grain bread can reduce the risk of breast cancer in young women. This has been found due to a seven-year study of 35000 women. According to the researchers, 350 patients developed malignant breast tumor before menopause. All of them consumed food rich in proteins instead of fibers. As a result, this type of diet was one of the causes of breast cancer. Pr. Janet Cade from University of Leeds claims, that nutrition can have a dramatic impact on cancer development in young women. The researchers did not find the link between diet and breast cancer for older women, but before menopause particular diets contribute to breast cancer. This means, that those prefe

She has done what many big conglomerates fail to do, focus on their core competency. Irene Rosenfeld has launched a massive turnaround effort aimed at revitalizing sales of the company's brands and is shedding slow-growing divisions to better focus the portfolio of the world's second-largest food company. Something Missing in Organic Cereals
Everyone is going organic, and this includes that of what they wear, eat or use. Breakfast times for most kids would normally be associated with eating cereal. But basing it on how people have turned anything edible we consume today into the organically set standards, the question on whether these said cereals are complete and possess the necessary vitamins and nutrients normally present in them has been put into question. So how do the parents or guardians go about this? Well for one, there is always the nutritional facts label usually found at the back or side of the box to which consumers can refer to. Before buying any organic cereal, it would be best to read the fine print before shelling out those dollar bills. Soft Shell Crabs in Butter Cereals
This the 3rd dish for my husband's birthday dinner. The 4th was a dessert (please see the next post) .My husband and I love a particular dish from Bi Feng Tang 避风塘 (literally translated as "Storm Shelter" in Chinese), Soft Shell Crab Bi Feng Tang Special. So on his birthday, I cooked this for him. An extra big plate some more. What you see here was only 1/5 of the whole dish. Yeah, I cooked that much. That's how much we, including my son, enjoyed that dish. *wink*By the way, you can use the same method to cook with prawns or squid. I had also tried replacing cereals with oats too. Tasty too.Ingredients:500g Soft Shell Crabs, halfOil for fryingMarinade:1 tablespoon Chinese Cooking Wine1/2 teaspoon Salt1 tablespoon Corn Floura dash of PepperFlour Coating (not batter, DO NOT ADD WATER) :3 part Corn Flour1 part Rice FlourSeasoning:3 tablespoon Butter6 tablespoon Cereals (I used Nestle's Nestum Cereals)1/2 tablespoon Garlic, minced1/2 tablespoon Shallot, sliced1 tablespoon Sugar3

Dangerous juxtaposition of cereals and cat food in local store.
Shopping has become a minefield since the local store rearranged their stock. Now breakfast cereals are next to cat food. It’s madness. The packaging is too similar, you can’t tell where cereals end and cat food begins. I live in a panic that I will pour milk over my breakfast one day and discover I’m eating Whiskas. Hope they move it all back again soon. Otherwise I’ll have to start having cooked breakfasts. Best Cold Cereals Ever
I love breakfast it's the best meal of the day and I've never seen anyone mess it up. Toast, sausage, waffles, pancakes, it's all wonderful--and though I like to cook hot, fun breakfasts the most popular breakfast around here is of course cold cereal. But despite its health benefits as a morning food every night between 9:30 and 10:00pm AST Andrew can be seen clutching his regular cold cereal night cap. Here are the favorites and if you happen to live somewhere where these aren't available . . . all I can say is "I'm really sorry. Really sorry. Have you thought about moving?"1. Life. Cinnamon variety to be specific. Otherwise you have to dump too much sugar on it to be worth your while. Lovely stuff.2. Frosted Flakes. Andrew doesn't like these, he says they stick in his teeth too much (and isn't that a pleasant thought?) I disagree and think they're . . . grrrrrrreat!3. Chex. Rice or corn, not so much Wheat Chex, it just tastes a little too healthy for me. You could

Whole-grain breakfast cereals good for your heart
Unlike alot of people, I love porridge. Often when I tell friends this, they screw up their faces which suggests to me that it’s not a favourite of many. So, I was pleased to read this article today. Researchers from Harvard Medical School have identified that those who eat whole-grain cereals for breakfast have a 28 per cent lower risk of developing heart failure. You need to be eating it 7 or more times a week, according to the report which is kind of interesting seeing there are only 7 days in a week There’s good news for those who eat whole-grain less than 7 times a week though with the study showing that the risk of heart failure falls 22 per cent in those who eat the cereals two to six times a week and by 14 per cent in those who eat them up to once week. If you’re interested to learn what grains make up the whole-grain family, you can visit this link for further details: Healthful Whole Grains It’s good news for me. Now when I tell my friends that I

Special K and Life Cereals Go Chocolate!
When I think of Special K cereal, I don’t normally imagine chocolate with it, but that’s about to change. As chocolate (particularly the antioxidant-rich dark variety of chocolate) gets touted as a health food, cereal companies are starting to hop onto a cacao-covered bandwagon. According to an article in USA Today, Kellogg and Quaker are going to push chocolate varieties of Special K and Life cereals: Special K Chocolatey Delight and Life Chocolate Oat Crunch. Apparently, these aren’t truly “breakfast” cereals as the companies are encouraging folks to indulge in something they’ve already been doing: late-night snacking on sweets. We already have a wide variety of chocolate cereals, but up until now, they’ve all been marketed for kids. My take? I’d still prefer curling up with a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles than a bowl of Special K, even if it is chocolatey Special K. USA Today: Healthy cereals to get taste of chocolate Special K Official Si

      Breakfast cereals: another price hike!
General Mills, the nice folks who bring us many of our breakfast cereal favorites just announced that they are raising prices – again! The increase, according to the company will just be a few percentage points (Kellogg's raised their prices 5% earlier this year) but the reason is that they are making their boxes smaller! These changes will take effect June 25, 2007. The reason? Higher prices for corn, wheat and cocoa according to the company, but cereal companies who already have huge margins, need to give us a break already. We most certainly, based on past history, can expect the other companies to follow the Big G's lead. By the way…what ever happened to that congressional inquiry into the price of breakfast cereals that was started back in 2002? The profit margins of individual cereals are a closely guarded secret - but if we take a look at industry statistics (Source: UBS Warburg), the average cereal delivers about 17 % profit. While that might not sound lik
