It is official. Chrysler Group, which consists of Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep, has been sold to Cerberus Capital Management for $7.4 billion. Cerberus will acquire 80.1% of the group, while Mercedes-Benz will retain 19.9% of the company. The new structuring has renamed Daimler-Chrysler AG to Daimler AG.Pensions and health costs for employees will stay, and Daimler AG and Cerberus announced they will be working together for developing future cars. Surprisingly, the reaction from the UAW has been well received albeit the rumors of deal cuts. Many conflicting reports are emerging on the web regarding Chrysler's new and unexpected owner. Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity firm headed by Kerkorian, is likely to be the winning bidder. The Detroit News is reporting that the firm has been already chosen as the new owner, whilst Reuters and The Wall Street Journal doesn't confirm. The final decision will be announced on Monday.Daimler-Chrysler put the Chrysler brand up for bids quoting that "the brand is out for all options." In February, Chrysler reported a $1.5 billion loss and a restructuring plan that would cost 13,000 jobs.Reports suggest Tom LaSorda, current chief of Chrysler, is likely staying and Wolfgang Bernhard will also find himself a board position. With a return to American ownership, they no longer had internal factions gunning for each other. Cerberus spoke highly about Chrysler's leadership; they would take a "hands off" approach to running their automotive acquisition. They offered union leaders assurance: we're in it for the long run. No need to worry about "strip and flip." And then Cerberus announced that Robert Nardelli would take over the reins. Ladies and gentlemen, the three-headed dog is finally baring its teeth.

Mike Delahanty, senior manager of Dodge Motorsports, has assured NASCAR fans that the manufacturer won't pull their sponsorship from the ten race cars wearing Dodge Charger/Avenger decals. Delahanty seems confident that Cerberus will continue supporting the program, citing two NASCAR contracts that "went through the Cerberus review unscathed -- no questions." CAW President Buzz Hargrove has been in a feisty mood lately. After telling all of Detroit where it can stick two-tier wages, Hargrove got personal with Cerberus Capital Management, owners of Chrysler LLC. Bloomberg reports that Hargrove is irate at the three-headed hedge fund over promises its president made while seeking support for its purchase of Chrysler.
