Dasavatharam is aproaching its release date – that is being kept under wraps until now – and Tamil version has recently underwent the censor certification. The panel members, after watching the movie, have advised 9 cuts and passed the movie with U certification. Censor scissors seem to have sheared a few scenes from the Mallika [...]
Finally the censor board has cleared Dasavataram with a U Certificate after a few cuts. There are no big cuts in the film as many expected. But Mallika Sherawat's item song suffered maximum cuts all together. And as publicized there are no scenes where Hinduism is degraded or ill-spoken about Hindu idols and gods. Censor officials said that the film is controversy-free."We have scissor on 9 scenes
As noted here"On the night of February 27-28, 1933, a mentally disabled Dutch citizen set fire to the German parliament building (the Reichstag). Hitler and his propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, presented the incident as the prelude to an armed Communist uprising and persuaded the aging President Paul von Hindenburg to establish what became a permanent state of emergency. This decree, known as

The Censor Board of India has issued A certificate to Pulan Visaranai-Two, after a long battle between the film’s director R.K.Selvamani and the Board’s Censor Committee officials. The film which was completed a month ago was sent to the Censor Board to obtain certificate. But on seeing screening the film, the board suggested to cut down 26 of its scenes. The board suggested one the cuttings was most important because a group of children born in an hospital looked alike the tennis player Sania Mirza.Selvamani did not agree to it. Hence, the Board suggested to screen the film to another set of persons headed by Dr Kamala Selvaraj. (Late actor Gemini Ganesan). After viewing the film second time, the board members raised some objections for the 26 cuts in the film. Director Selvamani, ans
With more and more films being hauled up in local courts, Bollywood producers are questioning the sanctity of the censor certificate. The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has written to the ministry saying the government should ensure that if a film gets certified by the censor board then nobody should be allowed to challenge the film. It was reacting to the information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry’s statement that while "the central government is responsible for certification of films, it is the responsibility of the respective state governments to ensure that the films are exhibited freely across the country."The ministry said that only state governments could ensure the smooth screening of films. But IMPPA president T.P. Aggrawal Wednesday

I found this pretty surprising. Americans applying for Canadian tax money to make TV or films are not subject to the Minister’s censor hammer (should Bill C-10 pass). It makes me wonder if it was sloppiness, or something sinister. Given the actions of the Conservatives, it really could be either, but my bet is [...]

Ranbir Kapoor's female fans are in for a disappointment - the towel dropping shot in the number "Jab se tere naina" has been deleted by the censor board.Sanjay Leela Bhansali is not complaining because it neither obstructs the flow nor makes a mess of his creativity.According to the team that accompanied Bhansali to the censor office, the director was offered the choice of keeping the nude shot with an adult certificate. But the filmmaker didn't want to lose an extremely large and crucial portion of the potential audience for one shot."In fact, several members of the censor board who loved the film suggested I take the cut and go with the 'U' certificate. Though in principle I'm against any cuts, this one time I agreed. The shot doesn't really make any difference to the flow of my story," Bhansali told IANS.With the censor certificate, the film is all set for release Nov 9. Sony Pictures, film's co-producer, seems pleased enough with Saawariya to offer Bhansali yet another film.
The Australian Government is at it again, making up ridiculous bills that take our rights away as citizens piece by precious piece. First they gave the federal police powers that pretty much nullified the “innocent until proven guilty” basis of our law, when there is even the inkling of terrorism. The power I’m referring to basically allows a person to be taken to court and charged without releasing all of the facts of the case, just in case another terrorist decides to use these facts to boost the success of their own actions. Now the Minister of IT, Senator Helen Coonan is trying to pass a bill that will allow the federal police to censor any websites that are “crime or terrorism related". Read more! »
This website is set so I have to approve comments from non-members and there is a good reason for that. I often receive hateful replies to my posts and often just delete them before they reach the light of day. Below are two comments that I received and deleted yesterday. They struck me as so ridiculous that I couldn’t help but be amused. I will post them here just to give you a sample of the idiots that I have to put up with sometimes.
A response to the About me post:

In high school I took a creative writing class. I thought it would be an easy class, because I'd been writing for as long as I can remember, and I had always earned high marks for writing...until then. I wrote story after story, but no matter what, my compositions came back scrawled with red marks. No matter how much time I spent pouring out my ideas, getting inside my characters’ heads, I was never given a grade high than a C-minus. This was a giant blow to me. Devastating. I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. I didn’t have the courage to ask my teacher. She was frightening.I began to doubt my ability as a writer. I did try to drop the class, but it was too late in the year. So...I dug deeper with every writing assignment. I wrote about the truths in my life—divorce and death. My grades sunk lower. Meanwhile, the girl next to me was writing about puppies and intact families eating apple pie at picnics. The only red mark on her compositions was a symmetrical A at the

The internet will probably end up doing one of three things: it will fizzle out; it will empower citizens across the world; or it will be taken over by governments and used create a global police state. France has obviously decided that it will take things in the latter direction, as it intends to ban citizen journalists from reporting on events where they may show the authorities in a bad light. Obviously, the usual state-sponsored news channels which show protesters and anyone who opposes the state will still be allowed to peddle their propaganda unimpeded.

The French Constitutional Council has approved a law that criminalizes the filming or broadcasting of acts of violence by people other than professional journalists. The law could lead to the imprisonment of eyewitnesses who film acts of police violence, or operators of Web sites publishing the images, one French civil liberties group warned on Tuesday.
The council chose an unfortunate a
Gizmodo has a short article about a patent that was recently filed about a Personal TV Censor. They were responding to an article on Arstechnica about it. Gizmodo has it's pluses, but one thing that bothers me about the site is their use of foul language. I even wrote the editor a couple of months ago about it, and I received a polite response about how the idea of blogging is the freedom of speech. I don't think having a potty mouth is justified in the name of "freedom of speech". It doesn't add value to the article or review. And if anything, it takes away from it. The attitude toward foul language, and the people who don't care for it, is evident in this article.Adam Frucci writes "It's not gonna help you when some naked man ### is shown on a gritty cop drama, but you could always just grow a pair and not be so easily offended."This world is going down hill quick, and particularly this country (USA), because of attitudes like this. In fact, I haven't censored a single comment on this blog in any way since I started using Haloscan (that's over 400 comments and counting). But I would appreciate a certain level of decency and respect.Take this for example:"To anyone who doesn't believe me, trying walking into a high school English or History classroom andand praise George W. Bush."Oh, I know. It's just awful. Same with trying to praise Hitler....idiot. Anonymous, who chose not to identify him/herself, compared Bush to Hitler then calls me an idiot. Notice that I had never said that I praise George Bush, not in person and not even on this blog. I think he's a decent guy, but he's isn't doing that well as President. That doesn't mean he's comparable to Hitler though.Hasrper just announced $1 billion for cancer healthcare. That is clearly a provincial responsibility and contradicts you. If this commenter had bothered to read my post or the article that I link to, Harper said that he wishes to constitutionally
Mine doesn’t. But apparently Dreamhost does - that’s the claim being made over at the Blog Herald. If it’s true, it’s quite scary, given how big they are. I’m surprised I haven’t seen more about this in the blogosphere today.
Sounds like Google is catching some heat for their refusal to pull down some allegedly racist blogs on their services. They are claiming they won’t do it without a court order.
Good.
It’s not the place of a hosting company to decide which content they agree with or which they might find offensive. Free speech trumps hate speech. As pointed out in one of the Slashdot comments, racist speech can be countered with other speech. Censorship can’t be countered.
As a footnote, this is the first time I’ve seen a story on Slashdot in a long time that hadn’t been beaten to death in the blogosphere over the previous few days.
The Bagelblogger thinks so.
Less than 24 hours after posting an archive of the Muhammad cartoons, the Photo hosting service Photobucket has for the first time ever on Bagelblogger removed 15 images..... 2 images were stills from the Danish videos that show Muhammad depictions. One as Mohammad as a camel with beer cans for humps, the other a turbaned head next to an atomic blast.
14 images were 'those' Muhammad cartoon images.
